ISO Au Pair agency recommendations
We've hosted 4 au pairs since 2021 with Interexchange/Au Pair USA. The agencies are pretty similar. Bigger agencies have a bigger pool of candidates, but we found a great replacement quickly even through our smaller agency when we had an au pair leave before the end of his term. A lot of au pairs want to be in NYC so we have that advantage. One difference between agencies is the LCC (local childcare coordinator). They are the agency staff member who is your main point of contact. They arrange meetings for their local group of au pairs and act as a mediator if issues arise. One way to choose an agency could be to talk to the LCC and see who you like. When hosting you just do a quick monthly check in with them if all is well, but they are your first line of defense if you have a question or concern. For what it's worth, Interexchange has 2 LCCs in Brooklyn, and we've worked with and liked both of them. I've heard great things about the Au Pair in America LCC too. Please please remember that au pairs are not professional childcare providers. They are young people who like kids who are coming to the US for a cultural experience. We've had a wonderful experience with two au pairs and had a hard experience with two au pairs. Screening for a good match is really important, but even our strong au pairs needed a good amount of training in both childcare and just living in NYC. -
Au pair agency
I've had a great experience with InterExchange. They are based in Manhattan and have lots of au pairs in Brooklyn. I'm on my fourth au pair with them. They have local coordinators that organize check-ins and activities so au pairs have a built-in connection to others if they want it.
