Hootenanny Brooklyn

Description

Hootenanny has been a beloved community gathering place for families since 2007. They offer classes for newborns through elementary school age in music, art, dance and yoga at their two locations in South Park Slope. They also host community events, activist gatherings and parties, especially a good old fashioned Hootenanny!

  • Ukulele Lessons

I’ve been taking the adult beginner ukulele lessons at Hootenanny and they’ve been so wonderful, highly recommend them!
  • Birthday party venues

We just did a party at Hootenanny and it was 200 to rent the space for 4 hours. They were fantastic and the space was perfect for a bunch of kids having a little dance party. There's a separate room for food etc. Staff wa super easy to work with too. They also do music class birthday parties where one of their teachers comes to play for the kids. I think that's like 450.
  • Toddler birthday party space recommendations

We also had our daughter's 2nd birthday (pre pandemic) at Hootenanny Art House on 15th st, with a singalong and yoga blocks to climb on, which was great though not sure what they offer these days.
  • Art class after-school for 1st trader

The Art Annex (formerly Hootenanny Art Annex) on 7th Ave. is under new leadership and launching some very cool new after-school art programming for preK-5th graders. Definitely check out their offerings!
  • ISO Music Classes for Babies

    Hootenanny Art House is amazing!!
  • Shout out for Hootenanny

Totally agree. My daughter is in Danni's elemental art class too and it's been wonderful.
  • Shout out for Hootenanny

My son has been going to Danni’s elemental art class this spring and it’s been great. She holds it outdoors, prepares all the materials and is so supportive of the kids. I just wanted to spread the word about a great experience!
  • Spring outdoor music classes in Prospect Park

Hootenanny does music classes in Prospect Park. We've taken classes with Pete and he is truly amazing. They do the Music Together programming and just opened spring registration today.

  • ISO Baby music class

We love the music classes at Hootenanny on 15st and 8th ave. We’ve been attending the classes for a year now. We starting taking classes when my son was just 5 months old.
  • ISO Baby music class

Check out Music Together classes at Hootenanny Art House in South Slope: https://hootenannybrooklyn.com/ Big hit with both of our kids!
  • Classes/activities with new baby

Big shout out for Hootenanny Art house on 15th near 8th Avenue (and other location)! A great place and they have Music Together classes among others.
  • Weekend classes for 16 month old

Hootenanny Art Annex is starting regular Sunday Art Annex times - it’s not movement per se but there is definitely sensory play and moving around the stations. There’s also a lovely bilingual music class at Hootenanny on Sundays that I have found really inspires my son to dance :)
  • Family Classes for 3 year old and baby

Hootenanny Music classes are great. Make sure to sign up for Pete’s class. They also have a good art annex on 7th ave. I think both places have classes for 0-3. Also look into my gym on 5th ave. Very cute play space.
  • [Winter2016Babies] Favorite toddler classes?

We've done hootenanny art house as well and loved that. We've done their music class 3 "semesters" now and are continuing that in the fall plus trying out their toddler art class. We're also doing Brooklyn Forest in the fall... (Review submitted 8/2017)
  • Re: Ideas for 2 year old birthday party in December?

Hootenanny Art House is a great place for a 2 year old's birthday party. Good luck/have fun!
  • Review from Kids Birthday and Bar/Bat Mitzvah Party Survey - 2016

Age of child: 1 Venue Review: We booked a music birthday party. It was very easy to coordinate details with Kira. Our musician, Mary, was wonderful and really great with the kids. The space for the music is large and there were lots of fun things for all of the kids to enjoy. The main space is much smaller, and it was a bit tight for our large crowd.
  • 4-year old birthday party ideas

We had our twins' 3rd birthday at Hootenanny, and it was great. All the kids seemed to have a really good time, and it was a good length. Note that you are responsible for your own food (including any cake/cupcake/dessert). We ordered pizza from Pizza Plus, and they were familiar with the whole thing. We did the music option; there was some free play with giant blocks for a bit, then the music section (about 45min), then we did lunch and cupcakes. Pete and Kira were great to work with. And they do all the set up and clean up. (Review submitted March 2016)
  • Art Classes - 2 year old

Huge shoutout to Hootenanny on 15th St and 8th Ave. Their art class is awesome and the stuff my daughter makes there is awesome and many times frame worthy... Really! They use a different artist as inspiration each week and learn about all forms of art. Very cool class. I'm not sure if they are filled up for the semester (starts next week) already but it's worth it to check!
  • ISO ideas for 3 year old birthday party locations

Hootenanny Art House is a great 3 year old party. There is a free play time, music with Pete (who everyone loves) and then time for cake/food. We've been to two parties 3 year old there - one for a neighbor and one for my own son.

We love, love Nikolai. We've taken his class at both MT locations in the slope, as we live between them. I prefer the layout at Hootenany though as well as the class times. He's warm and laid back and a good singer, takes time to explain why different song/games help develop musical abilities, and my daughter (18 mos) worships him. (Plus his own CD of kids music is much more hip & fun than the Music Together CD). He does a sing-a-long at cafe couleur on Fridays at 4pm usually, too, so you could go check him out there in advance of your decision. Also, I haven't taken Pete's class but several friends do and really like him.

Pete is the owner of the place. If he's teaching, he's terrific.

We love Pete. My son loves music but is typically too shy to participate during a class. But with Pete, he was up and jumping, dancing, and giggling the whole time!

Sofia Davis and I are on our 2nd semester at Hotenanny and really love it. We walk there all the way from 2nd st every week. The only instructor we've had is Pete and LOVE him! We took a trial class with him and have stuck with him ever since

Another great place is Hootenany Art House on 15th St. & 8th Ave. in South Slope. We had my son's 3rd party there and it was terrific. The space, the vibe, the timing. Pete and Kyra are so easy and pleasant to work with and the kids LOVE Pete and his music.

  • 2012 Birthday Party Survey

LIKES: It was near our house and has a lovely feel to it. The kids seemed to have fun for the most part. What you'd change: The staff didn't plan the time right on the party, so we had a half hour at the end which they filled with songs from off the top of their head and encouraged us to leave early. Do you recommend (High Rec, Rec, Rec w/ Reservations, Do Not Rec)? Recommend with Reservations
  • 2012 Birthday Party Survey

LIKES: Music time was really fun for the kids and adults. A big space for running around with foam blocks to play with. Nice area for snack setup and seating for kids. Didn't feel rushed when it was time to leave, they helped us clean up. What you'd change: Do you recommend (High Rec, Rec, Rec w/ Reservations, Do Not Rec)? Highly Recommend

Both my kids had their first birthday party at Hootenanny Art House on 15th Street off 8th Avenue. Pete and Kira are wonderful owners, they charge a fee for the two hours and provide entertainment, Pete, who is a wonderful singer and great with kids. There are 2 rooms, one for food and a carpeted room for the kids, you bring in your own food, they provide tables and chairs. They also have an ipod dock so you can play your own music. They are super laid back and accomodating. My first son had parties there from age 1 to 3 and second son had his first birthday there.

We had a delightful party for little ones at Hootenany Art House on 15th Street. The proprietors are lovely and accommodating, and the space is really nice!! We had a dance/music party, but I think there are other options (arts and crafts.) (November 2011)

We had our son's birthday party at Hootenanny Art House on 15th St and it was wonderful--and affordable! We just brought snacks and the cake, and ordered in pizza. Pete the owner is a fabulous musician and he couldn't have made the whole process any easier. I would definitely give them a call. (October 2011)

music together & art Location - 15th street How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended this program)? Age: - 2 What did you/your child like about this program or class? LOVES art class. Enjoys music class 75% of the time and I see benefit 100%. What would you change about the program? music class is great. no changes. art class gets a bit redundant - same painting each week with a few other things mixed in - BUT the kids enjoy it every week. Will you send your child back to this program or class again? (Or would you if you could?) Yes Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Highly recommend

Art Class Location - 15th Street and 8th Avenue How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended this program)? Age: - 2 What did you/your child like about this program or class? My son really enjoyed this class! What would you change about the program? The way the instructor spoke to the children was nice, but a bit simplistic (i.e. - "that's cool!") but that probably annoyed me more than my child. The art looked good at the end of the class, but the projects often didn't mean anything to him (such as painting on top of a cut out of a whale), although he did enjoy creating them. Will you send your child back to this program or class again? (Or would you if you could?) Yes Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Recommend
  • bday party - venue ideas?

The wonderful Hootenanny Art House on 15th and 8th Ave. They can lead a music, art, or dance party, or even mini obstacle course (they have these great giant foam blocks little kids can climb over) led by local parent-owners, Pete and Kira. Two rooms, one for activities, another for food. On the smaller side.
