Class Shoutout - Prenatal Strength at Gowanus Fitness
If you’re looking for an effective, low impact way to maintain strength in a supportive environment, Gowanus Fitness has a terrific Prenatal Strength Class on Thursdays at 5pm. I discovered it ~22 weeks thanks to a PSP shoutout, and it’s now a non-negotiable in my weekly routine. Class size is small (~3-5) so it feels like personal training at group rates. The routines are varied, well-balanced, and challenging but never extreme: The class is ideal for those with some weight lifting experience, but Ivana, the fab, fun, knowledgeable trainer, offers plenty of modifications.ISO Group fitness class recs
I really like Gowanus Fitness, on Butler between 3rd and 4 aves (reasonably close to the Bergen St F/G stop). I had not taken group strength and conditioning classes, and stopped going to the gym altogether during the pandemic and just did outdoor running. I didn’t think I’d like group classes, but I really enjoyed them at GF and have been going ever since they opened. The owner is a fellow PSP-er, and the classes have a lot of parents and people interested in keeping healthy and fit. It’s not competitive or intimidating at all, while still being challenging and encouraging. The coaches spend just as much time with you no matter how much you can do. The classes are a good mix of strength and conditioning and work out your entire body of the week. Plus, they have different meet ups and community events to bring your family to that are a lot of fun. They just had their annual dodgeball tournament!Shoutout: Gowanus Fitness—Youth Program
Just wanted to shout out the kids fitness classes Gowanus Fitness, the new gym on Butler between 4th and 3rd Ave. It’s a new class, and so fun and challenging for our very active 7-yr-old. Lynsey, the coach, has been teaching kids fitness for awhile at another gym, and has just started the classes here. Class size is relatively small, as they are new, but it’s such a welcoming community! Kids classes (ages 7-11) are offered on Wed and Sat, and teens (12+) Mon, Tue, and Wed. I discovered the gym through the prenatal strength training class, and our whole family really love it :)Shoutout to Gowanus Fitness, Prenatal Class
Wanted to share a prenatal fitness/strength class I’ve been attending the past few months, as I know people have been looking for them in the past, and this one is in-person. I’ve been going to Gowanus Fitness (Butler bw 4th and 3rd Ave) for a couple of months, since they’ve opened, and really love it. They gym opened in July, so very new with all new equipment. Similar gym layout to Crossfit—open warehouse with lots of space. The class is taught by Kat, who specializes in prenatal fitness and pelvic floor strength and integrity. She’s very good at tailoring exercises to the individual. It’s capped at 6, but because it’s so new, and not many people know about it yet, there are usually only a couple of us. I have no affiliation with Gowanus Fitness—just really love the class and feel so much stronger in my pregnancy thus far, and would love to see the gym continue to grow and succeed. If you’re looking for more of a workout than prenatal yoga provides, definitely check this out.
