Girafas
My first son when there when he was 1 and it was heartwarming to see his first sentences in Portuguese. Back then, his preferred language was Portuguese probably due to the increased exposure he had at Girafas. Even being rather far from the school and the commute from Cobble hill annoying, my second son will go there for 2 days per week next year.Girafas
My boy (2,5 years old) is going there full time and my other son (3months old) will join him for three days next year. We love it over there, although we're not from Brazil. We go there because we live close by and it's really convenient for us. I like it mostly because it's a smaller Montessori based school, 3 teachers for 12 kids and they go to the park twice a day and they learn a lot. It's a nice community of kids and parents. If you want to join you have to sign up quickly to be added to the waiting list.Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
My two older children attended Girafas and my youngest still does. It is a full immersion program in Brazilian Portuguese which is important to me because I’m a native Portuguese speaker and I would like my kids to speak Portuguese too and be exposed to our culture. The preschool does a great job in terms of introducing cultural themes, children’s games, songs and stories. They are partners in the upbringing of our children and I really appreciate that. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals, The outdoor space is a small area in the back where the children do gardening when the weather cooperates. Every day the children go to Fort Greene Park since the school.
