  • Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey

Review: A warm, caring staff has guided our son through his 3s. Experienced teachers, diverse student body — diverse racially, ethnically, and economically. Lots of crafts and hands-on activities, station for various activities to work together in small groups and learn how to communicate, plus great extras like music class and martial arts. Trips to the nearby playground when the weather is nice. The kids are safe and loved and learn a lot. Amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals, Afterschool pickups to other programs What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I wish admin was more communicative — info at the start of the school year didn’t come right away and made it tough to plan. And I hope universal 3K continues, but the city has frequently been late with paying that they have put the school in a bind on more than one occasion.

Our kiddo has been at GATED on Church since he was around 7 months, we've had a really good experience there. They use an app and have a 3K program that gives you a guaranteed spot.
  • Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey

Location: 1019 Church Ave Type of facility: Preschool Review: Caring, loving teachers leading all sorts of activities! Trips to nearby gymnastics school, music classes, and walks around the neighborhood, plus lots of crafts and singing and playtime. Our son started school not speaking at 2, and after a few weeks at school he started babbling up a storm! They have also been super helpful with potty training! He has had some incredible teachers who work hard but are always loving. Admin communication wasn’t always the best, but I think that may have been a result of regaining their bearings post-Covid. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? They have been upfront with their policy and protocols. Our child learned to wear a mask, which was a big help. They relaxed their mask requirements this spring, but it’s such a small pod, I wasn’t bothered — they eat and nap with no masks.

If you end up looking into GATED on Church Ave, I'm happy to chat about it. Both of my kids went there (my daughter from 2's through UPK and my son from nursery through UPK) and we were happy with our experience.
  • Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey

Type of facility: Preschool Review: Absolutely love the 2s program. The teachers are caring, patient, and creative. Our daughter loves it and has made a lot of friends! What amenities does the facility provide? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Provides meals
  • Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K Survey

Review: For preschool, our daughter enjoys the extra activities with outside instructors (yoga, karate, music). She goes to the playground weather-permitting. She did not like nap time, though eventually did adapt and is the better for it. Her classes have been ethnically diverse and the staff are friendly and warm. I would like for there to be more structured feedback--concerns are shared as they arise but wish that there was some kind of parent-teacher conference or a written overview periodically. For daycare, our son is clearly cherished and cared for well. They are responsive to our requests/preferences in terms of his schedule and activities. Facility amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program? More structured feedback. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? No.
  • Infant Daycare Recommendations

We had a fantastic experience sending our son to GATED Nursery on Church and Coney Island. They are part of a larger organization that runs a pre-school at that location and near the B/Q stop on Church, but the Nursery is licensed as a Group Family Daycare so the ratio of kids under 2 to caregivers is 2 to 1. It was such an amazing environment that I never had any concerns about leaving him there. He's continued through their 2's and 3's program and is currently in their UPK. (April 2021 review)
  • Daycare Windsor Terrace/Kensington

Our son goes to GATED Academy on Church Ave -- we're very happy there (even if we think the name is unfortunate), but depending where you'll be in WT it might be too far from you. He's currently in the Nursery which is between E. 10th and Stratford, but the 2's/3's location (where he'll start in the fall) is further away near the B/Q train on Church -- so it'll definitely be more of a schlep for us come fall. But they're super nice and easy going there, and the most affordable spot we looked at.
  • Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey

My son has been at GATED Nursery since he was 9 months old. He loves his teachers and is always happy to go there. I can't say enough good things about the teachers and program. They do lots of arts and crafts, go to gymnastics once a week, have a nice outdoor space, and go on outings to the public playground when the weather is nice. I feel really lucky to have this childcare option for my child and I recommend it without reservation. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals.
  • Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey

The teaching staff is great at working to the students' specific needs, my child was both emotionally supported and challenged academically. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals.
  • Review from the 2017/2018 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey

GATED Academy is a wonderful day care solution with very attentive and sweet caregivers. They are flexible with pick up and drop off times and update the app during the day with photos/potty/sleep/food posts so you always know what your little one is up to. The space is nothing fancy but has everything they need and is safe and clean. My infant loves to arrive there every day and is greeted by friendly faces and smiles, and seems to be quite happy all day long based on the photos. He is developing new skills quickly and getting on a regular nap schedule, probably due to being around older babies, and I know he is getting the attention he needs because the staff to baby ratio is very good and as one of the younger babies, he is always in someone's arms. I have every confidence that he is being well taken care of there! About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change? Would be great to get to know the other families and the caregivers a little better!
