Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education SurveyReview: The caregivers were wonderful, and the child:caregiver ratio was amazing -- 2:1! After a couple weeks initial adjustment (her first time starting daycare, around 15mo), she was always happy to go there in the morning and came home happy at the end of the day. She learned new words and songs, and sometimes brought home art projects. We got the appropriate amount of updates via Brightwheel app about her food, diapers, and activities. They provide food and easily accommodated our vegetarianism. The stroller storage area is helpful but also a bit of a mess. It's not exactly the daycare's fault, it's just a tight little space and parents tend to pile the folded strollers in there and it can be a headache... New York living, am I right? That plus the sidewalk on Church Ave is a bit of a challenge -- since there's no car parking on Church Ave, the cars and buses are driving by right at the curb, and it's noisy, and not a conducive setting to schmoozing with other parents. Aside from these minor issues, it was great. We'd definitely send our kid back there, but we moved too far away! Amenities: Has outdoor space, Provides meals, Outdoor space is quite limited but they go on walks in the neighborhood and play in Prospect Park Parade Ground area. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I would locate the entrance on a quieter street and have more space!

Review from the Spring 2024 Early Education SurveyReview: We had no childcare experience before Gated 3k so it's difficult to compare it to anything else, but for the most part we have been happy with the warmth of most of the staff and teachers. There is no outdoor space which is unfortunate, but they do keep the kids busy with karate and music teachers coming into the school as well as an hour of playground time when the weather is nice. Sometimes it feels a little chaotic administratively but otherwise we've been mostly satisfied. Amenities: Has after-school options, Provides meals

Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education SurveyReview: A warm, caring staff has guided our son through his 3s. Experienced teachers, diverse student body — diverse racially, ethnically, and economically. Lots of crafts and hands-on activities, station for various activities to work together in small groups and learn how to communicate, plus great extras like music class and martial arts. Trips to the nearby playground when the weather is nice. The kids are safe and loved and learn a lot. Amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals, Afterschool pickups to other programs What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I wish admin was more communicative — info at the start of the school year didn’t come right away and made it tough to plan. And I hope universal 3K continues, but the city has frequently been late with paying that they have put the school in a bind on more than one occasion.

Daycare Recommendations - Ditmas ParkOur kiddo has been at GATED on Church since he was around 7 months, we've had a really good experience there. They use an app and have a 3K program that gives you a guaranteed spot.

Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education SurveyLocation: 1019 Church Ave Type of facility: Preschool Review: Caring, loving teachers leading all sorts of activities! Trips to nearby gymnastics school, music classes, and walks around the neighborhood, plus lots of crafts and singing and playtime. Our son started school not speaking at 2, and after a few weeks at school he started babbling up a storm! They have also been super helpful with potty training! He has had some incredible teachers who work hard but are always loving. Admin communication wasn’t always the best, but I think that may have been a result of regaining their bearings post-Covid. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program, if anything? Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? They have been upfront with their policy and protocols. Our child learned to wear a mask, which was a big help. They relaxed their mask requirements this spring, but it’s such a small pod, I wasn’t bothered — they eat and nap with no masks.

Kaleidoscope ? reviewsIf you end up looking into GATED on Church Ave, I'm happy to chat about it. Both of my kids went there (my daughter from 2's through UPK and my son from nursery through UPK) and we were happy with our experience.

Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education SurveyType of facility: Preschool Review: Absolutely love the 2s program. The teachers are caring, patient, and creative. Review from the 2020–2021 Daycare, Preschool, Pre-K, and K SurveyReview: For preschool, our daughter enjoys the extra activities with outside instructors (yoga, karate, music). She goes to the playground weather-permitting. She did not like nap time, though eventually did adapt and is the better for it. Her classes have been ethnically diverse and the staff are friendly and warm. I would like for there to be more structured feedback--concerns are shared as they arise but wish that there was some kind of parent-teacher conference or a written overview periodically. For daycare, our son is clearly cherished and cared for well. They are responsive to our requests/preferences in terms of his schedule and activities. Facility amenities: Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change about the program? More structured feedback. Is there anything you would like to add about how the school handled the pandemic? No.

Infant Daycare RecommendationsWe had a fantastic experience sending our son to GATED Nursery on Church and Coney Island. They are part of a larger organization that runs a pre-school at that location and near the B/Q stop on Church, but the Nursery is licensed as a Group Family Daycare so the ratio of kids under 2 to caregivers is 2 to 1. It was such an amazing environment that I never had any concerns about leaving him there. He's continued through their 2's and 3's program and is currently in their UPK. (April 2021 review)
