We also do fresh direct (high quality as well but a bit expensive). One money saving tip: if you start a cart and don’t check out, they will usually send you a coupon for free delivery within 48 hours. Magic :)

I’ve been using FreshDirect weekly since 2007 and love it. The new bag system is great and cuts down on a lot of waste. Their customer service is also very responsive. I’ve had maybe ten issues over all this time and FD has always been either replaced my problem items or refunded me without question. Fish, meat and produce selection are great, as are the frozen baked goods (French bread, croissants, brioche, challah). There is also a surprisingly good cheese selection. We also occasionally order wine through them, as they partner with Union Square Wines. I pay the annual deliverypass fee, so can order as much or as little as I want without having to pay a service fee each time. They have also been waving the delivery fee for FoodKick for us, and that service is great, but I’ve only used it a handful of times. I recently tried Amazon Fresh because of a promotional offer and was not impressed. The delivery just gets dropped off at the front door (FD guys drop my bags into my kitchen). The produce was “meh.” That said, the prices were cheaper and they have a wider selection of “grocery” items/brands than FD (ie, the terrible for you, but guilty pleasure frozen pizzas I like). I also liked that you could get some Whole Foods brands, but I found that selection to be quite limited.

I like fresh direct, it’s easy and their food is usually pretty fresh. I’ve had a few bad experiences, but they are always quick to make it right. I also love their newer service - FoodKick. It’s same day delivery of basics. It’s great for when I need milk and bread, but don’t have time to get to the store or when I decide what to make for dinner without much time. I don’t love all the boxes from FD, but they just switched over to reusable bags that you can keep or trade back in to your delivery person when you get your next delivery.

FoodKick is an instant delivery service by Fresh Direct that we’ve used with success. It has a lot of the same items you can get with FD, and you can select immediate delivery, which is nice, bc I never seem to plan ahead. They deliver in paper bags, which we then reuse to put out our paper recycling. Very minimal waste.

We've done both Fresh Direct and Instacart. Fresh Direct is good for pantry items and fish/meat but I've never had a great experience with their produce so when we go that route I do a separate shop in person for fruits and veggies.

Another vote for FreshDirect/FoodKick. If you’re not aware, they are essentially different versions of the same service. FoodKick has probably 75-80% of the offering of FreshDirect, but allows same day delivery and delivery in one hour windows (as opposed to FD which has a two hour delivery window and has to be booked at least day before). Both offer the option of either a per-delivery fee ($3 I think?) or a subscription flat fee for unlimited deliveries. Their white label brand is good (same for both), selection is good. And they sell alcohol! I have switched to FoodKick almost exclusively because of the convenience factor, through would maybe do FD once in a while for their additional catering options which are pretty good (eg smoked salmon platter, fruit platters, also decent holiday offerings...).

We've loved Fresh Direct, and they actually have fantastic fish . Also, they are moving to a reusable bag trade offs in the fall, which is great. They'll bring in reusable bags, and, if you want, on their next delivery they will take them back. I believe it starts in september (they use boxes now).

I second Fresh direct, and we use Instacart for Costco and Whole Foods items once a month (so stock up on bulk items from Costco, and then get some of the more organic/funky branded items from WF). I also rely heavily on Food Kick for last minute supplies. It's owned by Fresh Direct so it's same quality items, just delivered to you ASAP. It's a life saver when you need a few items and forgot to schedule a proper delivery with another service. hey also deliver alcohol which, though not in the meal plan, is quite useful :-).

We typically use Fresh Direct -- we've always had a great experience. One time there was an issue with delivery due to the truck breaking down but they refunded the delivery fee and gave us a $20 credit, and then delivered the next day. We find the prices to be comparable to Fairway/Whole foods. I've always loved their produce too so will order if the farmers market isn't an option. They will also replace a damaged/spoiled item the next day (I haven't had an issue but a friend did). Overall, they have great customer service and the delivery team will always bring upstairs. I've also used Instacart but I find the fees for a non-VIP membership to be a bit high (both delivery fee and a service fee that is 10-15% of your total bill). I like that you can communicate with the shopper as they go through the store in case something is available, but I don't always find the replacements to be great. Also, I always have to go down to get the bags, which is fine but just an FYI.
