VBAC providersI had a VBAC with Dr. Guirguis. His practice did my c section with my first and I was determined from the start to have a vbac with my second (as long as everything was safe etc). He was so encouraging and I felt well-prepared for every scenario.

VBAC dr. at NY Pres/Weill CornellHi! I had a c-section because of a breech baby (at 7cm) as well. It was very sad for me and I was so happy to have VBAC with Dr. Guirguis at Methodist/NYP right here in the neighborhood. Good luck! After having the VBAC, I felt like I had the birth I really wanted, and then in hindsight realized that either way, our bodies are AMAZING and what comes after the birth ends up being the important stuff.

Recommendations needed for Birthing HospitalsI gave birth to my daughter at Methodist 2.5y ago with Dr. Swenson from the Guirguis practice and really liked it. It’s also really close to our home (2-3 blocks), which was the main reason we picked it. We’ll be going there again for #2. We’re able to get a private room right away and the facility is clean and quiet. All the nurses and staff were great, and if you need anything just press the call button next to your bed and they come quite quickly to help. My only grip is the pullout bed/chair wasn’t very comfy for my hubby, but he’s also really tall. Food was okay, but you can always bring our own and they have a cafeteria downstairs. I’d highly recommend bringing some treats for the nurses while you’re there and they give you tons of freebies like postpartum underwear and pads (hospital grade), diapers, formulas, wipes/cloths (hospital grade), water spray, nasal bulb, hand pump, etc. they’re such lifesavers because they’re usually things you don’t even think about or can easily get from retail ;)

[ANONYMOUS] OBs/Midwives and doulas for VBACThe practice of Dr. Guirguis is supportive of VBAC.

[ANONYMOUS] OBs/Midwives and doulas for VBACI highly recommend Dr. Guirguis' office if you desire a VBAC. Everyone in the practice was very encouraging of me when I was pregnant with my second and planning for a VBAC.

ANONYMOUS] OBs/Midwives and doulas for VBACThe practice of Dr. Guirguis is supportive of VBAC. And I would also recommend our doula, Leigh Hill Kader, as someone who would support you in this endeavor as well. You can find contact info for both via google search. Good luck!

Review submitted by 2016 Birth SurveyI had a really terrible experience with another OB-GYN in Manhattan before switching to the practice at Fayez Guirgis. We had a failed pregnancy and the other OB and the staff at Lenox Hill Hospital made a traumatic incident even more stressful. I was able to make an appointment with Jill Swenson at Guirgis before I was pregnant again (this time successfully with our daughter!). Dr. Swenson was incredibly sympathetic and supportive as I explained what had happened. One of the midwives at the practice, Kathryn, ended up delivering our daughter but I had check ups with everyone. All were supportive of my decisions to have a doula and delivery naturally (i.e. no drugs). I delivered at Methodist in Park Slope which was also a positive experience. My only complaint about Dr. Guirgis's office is that it is often very crowded. Member notes about insurance: They accept my (awful) city employee insurance, GHI. My only problems have been with my insurance company, not Dr. Guirgis's office. Based on a January 2016 birthing experience

Re: [ANONYMOUS] Advice on 2nd pregnancy after preeclampsiaI'm happy to share my story. I had HELLP syndrome diagnosed at 38 weeks and was induced. My then-OB diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia around 30ish weeks, and I was put on partial bed rest (i.e. Working from home and limiting my movement), got a lot of NST scans. I felt like my entire first pregnancy was one scary thing after another, culminating in a 24-hour labor and emergency c-section that was really tough to recover from. For my second pregnancy, I was nervous. I was determined to switch OB practices -- I wanted good doctors with experience with high-risk pregnancies, but a practice that wouldn't treat the whole pregnancy as an episode of Fear Factor. So I ended up at Guirguis in the neighborhood and LOVED them. They monitored me really closely, had me take baby aspirin early on (there's a study that says it can prevent pre-eclampsia), and my pregnancy was completely different! I had zero health issues - not even one elevated blood pressure reading. They went through my pathology report and surgical report from my first labor to help inform treatment this time around. I honestly could not be happier with my treatment. Anyway, I decided to schedule a c-section to avoid a long labor followed by a potential c-section. I went into labor on my own a few days ahead of the plan, and delivered my second with no issues just last week at Methodist. (dr Guirguis came in to Methodist at 6 am on a Saturday to do my section, even.)

Review submitted via 2015 Birth SurveyREVIEW: Great practice if you want a low-intervention birth. I ended up with them because my fertility OB, who was pregnant herself, used them. Solid endorsement. I was >40, IVF pregnancy, and they were very laid-back while still being very responsive. Had a fantastic birth with a walking epidural and it was exactly what I wanted. Had a midwife deliver. I liked all the practitioners except Old Man Guirgis--but he didn't do my delivery. And he was amazing when Methodist was being ridiculous about discharging me. He made it happen by being an awesome curmodgeon. Their office practice is the typical terrible experience with inexcusably long waits. INSURANCE They take a lot of insuramce. It was great, easy, I spent nothing out of pocket. Based on a April 2015 birth
