Re: shout out to Etienne’s Family Daycare
Myriam's daycare, on 6th Ave. and 16th, is simply incredible. We sent our daughter there starting at age 1, and have just left at age 3-- honestly, I feel a little bereft at leaving. Myriam's daycare is like family. She is so warm, patient, and loves each of her children for their unique self. We'd sent our daughter to previous daycares where the caregivers sometimes felt rushed, or took a generic approach to us and our kid. It's the opposite at Myriam's, whose gentle demeanor and steadfast attention to each child is so apparent. When our shy daughter saw Myriam each morning she would squeal with delight and run to her. It's been incredible to have a caring adult in our child's life who clearly loves her as much as we do. Myriam's is very reasonably-priced, very flexible, and very responsive. The maximum number of kids in daycare is 6, and other families have become some of our best friends in the neighborhood. Myriam speaks French, so it's a great opportunity for French-speaking families too. She takes the kids on outdoor excursions every day, to parks and the library and much more. If you're looking for a loving, playful, relaxed environment where you can 100% trust that your child is having a wonderful day, go to Myriam's. I feel like we found this diamond-in-rough daycare, and now that we've gone, we want to freely spread the word that there's an opening. So yes-- you can reach her at etienne358@aol.com, or message me and I'm happy to share more too!shout out to Etienne’s Family Daycare
I would like to give a shout out to Etienne's Family Wonderschool, a daycare center located at South Slope, 6th Ave between 16th St/Prospect Ave. Our youngest toddler attends there, and our oldest spent the summer there as well. We are having a wonderful experience. The owner, Myriam Etienne, is an experienced educator, and the other teacher, Collins, is also very experienced. They have been working together for years, and my children adore them both. They are great with the kids, love singing and are very joyful and warm. The best part of the center is that the kiddos are outside every day. They go to playgrounds, Prospect Park, the library, or even walk around the neighborhood to see the seasonal decorations. They have picnic lunches depending on the weather. The kids love it. The center also offers music class once a week (with another amazing teacher), as well as other activities such as crafts. They truly follow a play-based methodology, which was important to me when choosing a daycare center (plus the outdoors and the teachers' experience). I was SO happy to find Myriam's center, and feel so fortunate that I really want to share it with you all. It is small and she keeps no signs, so it is not that easy to find. The daycare has a strong sense of community. The parents are friendly and welcoming, and Myriam organizes picnics at the end of each season. The parents also frequently organize other get-togethers. This is in stark contrast to other daycare experiences we have had, and we are very happy to be a part of this wonderful community. We know they have few spots open due to older kids heading to 3K programs, so if you’re looking for a place for your kid, reach out to Myriam (etienne358@aol.com).Review from the Spring 2023 Early Education Survey
Review: Myriam's daycare is phenomenal. A small, home-based daycare of no more than 6 kids, it is run by Myriam, who is one of THE warmest, most loving childcare workers we've ever met. She is incredibly kind and respectful of her children, takes them on walks to local parks every single day, and brings in local musicians, does crafts weekly, reads tons of books, and more. Our little girl has simply fallen in love with her and the other children, and she plays without them outside of "school" frequently. If you're lucky enough to nab a spot at Miriam's, take it! You won't regret it. She is also very reasonably priced, and speaks French if that is useful to you. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Not a thing! Love Myriam's.Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Daycare Review: We've been sending our son (now 21 months) to this small, in-home daycare 5 days a week since he was 13 months old, and we cannot recommend it enough. The group is small (5-6 kids), which is helpful for COVID safety but also means that our son gets a lot of individual attention and has formed strong bonds with his teachers. Myriam and all of her teachers are exceptionally warm, and it's clear that they care deeply about each of the kids. We love that our son is learning in a bilingual environment, that he's playing outside every day, and that he's learning music and art. He comes home so happy every day--we know he's being well loved and cared for! Myriam is also happy to work with families on scheduling, and has been extremely accommodating with extra hours, days off, etc. What amenities does the facility provide? Review: This is a small family daycare and our son loves it. We send him two days a week, with an option for a third. The care providers are patient, gentle and fun-loving people who truly believe in their work and seem to take pleasure in it. There are only six children allowed during this pandemic time, so the teacher/child ratio is still fantastic, and the risk is lower. Myriam made a point of getting all the families together at the end of the summer for a socially-distanced picnic so we could get to know each other. Everyone is wonderful. The main teacher, Myriam, speaks French to our son, who is growing up bilingual in the household, so I also feel very supported in his language acquisition. They have also been helpful and accommodating with potty training. Our son adores the teachers and looks forward to going. I am so lucky we learned about this care facility (word of mouth) and would absolutely send him again if we were to do it all over! What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Outdoor space in the facility. But they go outside on walks and to the playground.ISO French/bilingual creche/ daycare for infants
Shout-Out: Incredible South Slope In-Home Daycare
I wanted to send a wholehearted recommendation for our beloved daycare, Etienne Family Daycare. It’s an in-home daycare on 6th ave between Prospect Ave and 16th st. and I truly cannot say enough good things about it. The daycare is run by Myriam (or Mimi as my son calls her). Myriam follows all the necessary COVID precautions as outlined by the State (OCFS), including daily health checks for children and staff, regular cleaning & disinfecting, parents & visitors aren't allowed in the play area, etc. Myriam is kind, loving and patient and my son lights up when he sees her. It's immediately apparent when you walk through the door that the environment is one of joy, care and respect and as a result the bond the children share with each other and with Myriam is really special. Myriam works with your schedule, takes the kids outside multiple times a day, plays lots of music and does art and science projects. My son regularly comes home with new words, skills and manners that he's learned. Myriam feels like a member of the family. We're away from Brooklyn for the summer but we still regularly talk and text with Myriam because we can't imagine our lives without her.Review from the 2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool Survey
Our daughter had a fabulous experience! Myriam and Vanessa have been loving, supportive, honest, and helpful. I would definitely send my daughter there again for ages 1yr through 2.5yrs. DETAILS: Has afterschool optionsReview from the 2018/2019 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey
We love, love, love Etienne's Family Daycare! I truly cannot say enough good things about it. It’s a small, immaculate, in home daycare in South Slope Run by Myriam Etienne. (it's about a 5 minute walk from the Prospect R stop). Our son started going there at 6 months. Myriam always works with our schedule (early or late drop off when needed), takes the kids on outside adevntures multiple times a day and is so warm and loving - as is Vanessa, her colleague. My son truly loves Myriam and Vanessa and lights up when he sees them. I feel extremely lucky to have found such a positive, kind and warm daycare for our son. What would you change? There is nothing I would change about the program.Myriam Etienne (Etienne's Family Daycare)
I am writing this review of Myriam Etienne's childcare services, as a mother whose child is currently under her care. When I first began looking for someplace to send our daughter for daycare (at the time, our daughter was one year old), I was overwhelmed by both the options in Park Slope, as well as my need to feel a personal connection with whomever we chose. I found Myriam's name on PSP and feel so lucky that I did. Myriam and her colleague have been such a blessing to us. Not only is Myriam extremely experienced and patient, she is unbelievably warm and "real" in the best sense. I always feel that she is telling me her honest opinion about our child's needs and development, while maintaining a consistently professional and kind attitude. She has been flexible and extremely helpful when we needed extra help due to a family illness. Moreover, she always made us feel that her actions were in the best interest of our family as a whole. Our daughter became attached to Myriam and her co-worker within only a couple of months. The overall climate of Myriam's home is one of laughter, kindness, and respect for one another. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way, as Myriam makes an effort to individualize her attention to each child and each parent. In making the choice as to where to send my child for her second home, I personally felt intimidated by the fact that I didn't have close family or friends to guide me. In a big city where many of us are not natives, Myriam's home is an oasis of warmth and candid, heartfelt care. I highly recommend Myriam Etienne to anyone looking for a loving, patient, and devoted childcare provider.review of Etienne Family Daycare
My 2 year old daughter has been attending Etienne for close to a year. Myriam and her assistant Vanessa have been such a gift to our family. They provide extended hours to us which is hard to find for daycare (I needed 7pm pickup because of work/commuting). They take the kids out on "adventures" each day- from trips to Prospect Park, the Community Garden, to seeing live music at a local coffee shop or the library, daily trips to local playgrounds, and even have music classes. I love that they get the kids out and they aren't sitting around a room all day, especially when the weather is beautiful. I pick up a happy, giggling girl each day and know she is in the best of hands. Myriam is an amazing communicator (and former educator) and is very tuned into my daughter and her needs. She also has supported us through transitions (pacifier weaning and potty training). Her assistant, Vanessa is also amazing. We couldn't ask for 2 kinder, lovely people to be taking care of our daughter. They have truly been a gift to our family!superb, small in-home hoping to add two more tots
Our beloved daycare provider has been essentially a third parent to our daughter since she was 6 months old. From day one, she has exhibited remarkable tenderness, thoughtfulness, and joy about caring for our child. It's clear that caring for small children is her vocation. She has more than a decade of experience in the field, first working in early childhood education and then as a childcare provider. Myriam's daycare is located on 6th Ave. and 16th Street. At the moment, she (and another lovely part-time worker) look after three children, ranging in age from 1.5 to 2.5. She is hoping to add two more children to the program who fall within this age range, as she plans to initiate a more "preschool" type curriculum in the fall. As it is, Myriam encourages each aspect of the children's development, with circle time, daily outdoor play in the playground or nearby community garden, weekly visits to song and story time at the library, and creative activities as well as free play throughout the day. Myriam's most distinguishing among her many wonderful characteristics is her total transparency in communication. She truly wants the best for each child and is eager to engage with parents when something seems amiss. She is totally open to feedback about changes that can be made in approaches to one's child, which feels like such a gift from this mother who is also a teacher and knows how valuable this can be.Recommendation: Child Care - Etienne Family Child Care
We have been with Myriam for 6 months now, and could not ask for a better child care provider. She is very intuitive to the children's needs, is very kind and encouraging and has the patience of an angel. I have never seen her get frustrated and really takes care of the children as her own. She has a great relationship with the parents as well, and always communicates any concerns or recommendations, and is very easy to talk to. I cannot say enough great things about Myriam, she really is a God send to our family!2009 Day Care/ Preschool Review
—Length of time (Full or Part Days & 2,3,or 5 days/week) - 4 days a week —What year(s) does your review cover? 2008-2009 (the year just ending) only —How old is/was your child(ren) when they attended the preschool/daycare/playgroup? 2-3 years —Review of experience? The care givers at this family day care programs are loving, kind, supportive, and highly responsible. This is a day care program that functions also as a playgroup because a small number of children participate on a regular basis so the children all know one another. The program is in the home of the day care owner. While it is a small space, it is laid out with a variety of toys and books. Music is playing constantly, children do a variety of art projects and activities, and on special occasions the children bake and do celebratory activities. The children are outside at least once a day where they venture to the neighborhood park, library, and garden. Our son had a difficult time transitioning into the program but the staff were incredibly gentle and supportive throughout the process and continue to be whenever our son is having a particularly difficult time. The head of the program communicates very directly and clearly with us about how our son is doing in the program and ways we can help him when he's experiencing any kind of life transition (new sibling, toilet training, etc). —Would you recommend?
