- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyThe first week at home was really tough because my baby was still hardly staying awake, so I was trying to breastfeed and then pumping and giving him a bottle. The whole process of trying to keep him awake and feed him would take over an hour. I booked a call with Eden Bertrang, who was one of several LCs recommended by the hospital. She was nice and gave me some helpful tips, but I think looking back it wasn't really necessary because my baby started latching on his own around 6 days old. He just needed some time to wake up and get the strength to feed. Both the hospital and Eden gave me advice that they give for premature babies, which is to try to feed and then pump after each feed, which is 8-12 times a day. This, I think, is because most premature babies don't get enough at the breast, so you have to give them a bottle too to make sure they're eating enough. I asked them both, ""so what about when the baby DOES start taking full feeds, presumably I stop pumping?"" And BOTH said, ""no, keep pumping."" So for a week or two I continued this absurd feeding/pumping schedule. I was ""only"" pumping 6 times a day and then messaged Eden again to say that I really thought I was over-doing it, at which point she said it was fine to drop back on pumping but warned me to do so slowly so I wouldn't get mastitis... Perhaps I shouldn't have been pumping so much in the first place??? Grrr. Again, in retrospect I should have asked my midwives for their advice, but when you're so busy and kind of overwhelmed and both the hospital and LC advice is the same, it doesn't seem obvious to question it, since aren't they experts? Follow your gut!
- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyBoth were incredibly helpful post birth with establishing supply, latch issues, etc. Very professional and personable
- Lactation consultantI hired a consultant named Eden Bertrang (who was very helpful and worth it as we really struggled) and she was 350. Every one I spoke to was somewhere between 250 - 350 for a 2 hour consultation.

- Review submitted via the PSP Birth SurveyI can't say enough amazing things about her. She's extremely qualified and totally non-judgmental. I was desperate to exclusively breastfeed but due to certain circumstances, was unable to. She helped me form a bottle-feeding plan (and before that, a breastfeeding plan), and assisted in getting my child to latch since we were having such difficulty. She is patient, kind, and answers any follow-up emails, texts or phone calls promptly. Based on a 8/3/17 birthing experience.
- Review submitted via the PSP Birth SurveyFound Eden through Boober. She visited my home 2 days after being released from the hospital when my baby wouldn't feed, was trying getting lethargic and I was panicking. She was very reassuring, helped me understand how to pump, supplement with formula and left me with same plan going forward. She also followed up with me via email several times in the weeks that followed. Based on a September 2017 birthing experience.
- Review submitted via the PSP Birth SurveyEden saved the day when we were stressed out about breastfeeding woes and feeding our 5 day old baby. She responded immediately via text late at night when we needed help and made time the next day to come for a home visit. She provided follow up phone/email support at no additional cost for weeks after. Eden is incredibly knowledgeable and upfront, and we could not have appreciated her more. Based on January 2017 birth experience
- (no subject)I'll second the recommendation for Eden. I had a c-section after two nights of induction and labor, and she was there for all of it. She's very smart, a great communicator, and knows how to navigate the hospital environment very well. She has attended a number of c-sections and is far more modern than what I expected a doula to be. Her website is here: http://edenb.me (Recommended, October 2010)
- (no subject)I was very glad to have our doula, Eden Bertrang, with us that day. She was a comfort to my husband and I on a tough day. If I were you, I'd look for a doula who can give you advice on how to try to flip the baby as well. Eden can do this for you.
