Had a fantastic experience at Dolphin Spa on 8th Ave. They’ve always been so fantastic, and the hygiene measures made me feel very safe. Full partitions between other customers and the nail technicians. Highly recommend!
  • Great neighborhood nail place: Dolphin Spa

I've never written one of these before, but I just have to extol the virtues of Dolphin Spa, the nail place on 8th Avenue between 11th and 12th streets. A friend of mine recommended Dolphin several months ago, and now I won't go anywhere else. First, the owner, JoJo, is the kindest, most generous nail salon owner that I've ever encountered (and I've been to a lot of nail salons!). I was looking for a new place in the wake of the NYTimes exposé about how nail workers are treated and found this gem. I always get weekly polish (Vinylux) -- most salons charge anywhere from $1 to $5 extra for this polish, but JoJo doesn't charge ANYTHING extra because she doesn't think it's right. She also treats her employees well -- it feels like a big, happy family when you're there. Second, Dolphin may look no-frills, but it's also incredibly clean. They use new files and buffers on every customer, and disinfect all of the other supplies every single time. I really want Dolphin to survive (and thrive!) because I think they are just wonderful. I worry, though, because they're a bit off the beaten path (read: not on 7th or 5th avenues) and they don't charge for those little "extras" that the salons on 7th or 5th do. Please check them out and tell your friends to, as well. No affiliation, just a really satisfied customer.
