Dirty Precious, in Gowanus, is perfect for this. We had my husband's 40th birthday party here last year, though it wasn't a surprise party. They have a semi-private room that you can book for free, with no minimum. And then your guests can just go straight to the bar to order. We also pre-ordered platters of small bites and appetizers. And they allowed us to bring in our own cake and balloons.
