  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? May 2023 Review: Denise was a clear communicator and very supportive during a challenging time riddled with doubts. Even a virtual consultation with her was very useful.
  • Breastfeeding Assitance

Denise is great. She’s based in Cobble Hill and she accepts Aetna.
  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? September 2022 Review: Denise helped us navigate one of the hardest parts of postpartum for us: feeding. We were sent home from the hospital with a triple-feeding protocol and supply issues as a result of a tongue tie (that came with a ridiculously painful latch). We were flexible about feeding - basically as long as baby is fed - but with her help I wound up exclusively breastfeeding and building a freezer supply that lasted for 2 months once we started weaning. She accepts Aetna, and does in-person appointments, which we thought was incredible important. We would have had a VERY hard time learning how to do this virtually, and the weighted feeds brought us a huge sense of relief because we actually knew how much he was taking in and gaining between pediatrician appointments.
  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: Denise was wonderful! We didn't have any major problems breastfeeding but the reassurance of a weighed feed and her professional assessment of how our daughter was latching and sucking was helpful in those hazy early days.
  • Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? June 2022 Review: Just yes!!! She saved us. Knowledgeable, kind, and very helpful. She was the third LC we went to but worth the wait to see her.
  • recs for a reassuring, nonjudgmental lactation consultant

I recommend Denise McDonald. I found her to be very kind and compassionate.
  • three week old baby - still no latch - need help

I had a very positive experience with Denise McDonald at Brooklyn Breastfeeding. I triple fed for a month. My baby latched but I had supply issues. It was hell. Ultimately, my supply did go up and breastfeeding worked out well but it was a very, rough few weeks. Denise was very kind and supportive and really took in the emotional aspect of breastfeeding as well.
  • Breastfeeding / ISO lactation consultant

I had a great experience with Denise McDonald. She is caring, knowledgeable, and also communicates well / often via email. She is in Carroll Gardens and takes Aetna.
  • ISO recommendation for IBCLC

I highly recommend Denise McDonald! https://brooklynbreastfeeding.com/ We saw her in person for 6 sessions at her office when my son was born in January (she's in Cobble Hill, and at the time was doing in-person office appointments once a week). She also accepted my insurance (Aetna) and did all the paperwork on her end and there were zero issues. I didn't pay a dime for the 6 sessions that my insurance covered. I didn't have the same issues as you (I had undersupply and a baby with tongue/lip tie and latch issues), but I can say Denise was super knowledgable, patient, extremely generous with her time and truly cares about the families she works with. After each session she provided us with an extremely detailed report with everything we went over, an action plan, and recommendations and it was invaluable in my postpartum haze.
  • ISO: Lactation consultant

Denise McDonald helped me, too, virtually when she was running an online support group.
  • ISO: Lactation consultant

Denise McDonald really helped me! We saw her in person. She takes Aetna insurance too and is located in the Columbia Street Waterfront.
  • Lactation Consultant on Aetna doing in person visits?

Denise McDonald is doing in person visit in her office (in Carroll Gardens) on Tuesdays and takes Aetna. She was amazing for me with my first (I had lots of BF issues) and I did a virtual consultation with her last week for my second and can’t say enough great things!
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Denise is an amazing, caring, practical and a wonderful partner. Other consultants can be overly focused on breastfeeding at all costs. She considers the mental health / exhaustion of the mom as well as the feeding needs of the baby. She truly is a special find! Even with all virtual visits, she helped me be able to get over a very rough initial breastfeeding experience and keep going past my goal date! She does a weekly breastfeeding support clinic through Bend and Bloom that is helpful, in addition to 1:1 visits. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

I ended up switching to a denise, who I’ve only emailed with but she is thorough and gets right back and has had some great suggestions to help improve my milk supply. Denise is In network with Aetna
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Denise was great, I highly recommend her and I would work with her again. She takes Aetna.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Denise was extremely supportive and didn't push - she understood my challenges and supported me 100%.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Amazing and covered by Aetna. She does home visits and has an office in cobble hill. She set us up for success in the first weeks when my baby lost a little too much weight. I was able to breastfeed exclusively with no problems because of her help.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

And many weeks later when I still had a cracked and bleeding nipple and was still struggling to figure it out, with a baby who was a lazy sucker, Denise somehow worked her magic and showed me new ways to approach, to hold, to be more comfortable. And after working with her it finally clicked. Baby and I are still breastfeeding and he is turning 1 this month. Now I have to figure how to stop doing it!
  • Virtual lactation help

Extra shoutout to Denise! She’s been hugely helpful for us virtually, and she’s given us great tips and tactical consults.
  • Virtual lactation help

My wife and I have been seeing Denise McDonald, who is excellent. It's hard virtually, but everything she suggested worked! Our baby is able to latch better, drink longer, and sleep more. We're very thankful. We have Aetna and she's in-network.
  • Lactation consultant

I used Denise McDonald and really liked her. I think she’s in-network with Aetna. She and one other IBCLC also do a clinic at Bend and Bloom Yoga studio for $40 on Thursdays if it’s more of a quick question and not something you think you’d need a full consultation for. (December 2019)
  • Home visit LCs who take Aetna

I’d recommend Denise McDonald. She is very responsive and accepts Aetna.
  • Home visit LCs who take Aetna

I have Aetna and used Denise McDonald. She is wonderful, she has such a peaceful demeanor and makes you feel at ease no matter what you decide to do. She also does all the insurance work for you, so you don’t have to file anything yourself.
  • Lactation consultant to help with pumping?

I used Denise McDonald, she’s based in Brooklyn and takes Aetna insurance if that’s helpful. She was so awesome and helped me set up my pump! However I found this article super useful when I first started. https://livingwithlowmilksupply.com/how-to-use-spectra-s1-breast-pump. It tells you how to use let down mode first. Lactation consultants can be super $$ if not covered by insurance so you also may want to consider going to a La Leche mtg or BF support circle to get lactation support too! Good luck!
  • Lactation Consultant (Twins)

I also recommend Denise McDonald. I’m working with her now also.
  • Lactation Consultant (Twins)

I’m currently working with Denise McDonald who I am really loving. She is in the same price range as the other person someone suggested. She also brings a scale, makes house calls, is great about following up and her understanding and compassion for whatever you might be struggling through with breastfeeding has been amazing. Her contact info is: 917.887.8246
  • 2018 Review

I can’t recommend Denise Mcdonald enough. She accepts Aetna and makes house calls.
  • 2018 Birth Survey

I cannot say enough about Denise. The kindness, the depth of knowledge, THE KINDNESS. She came into my life at my most stressful point and ushered me into becoming a mom. She went above and beyond on several occasions (including a housecall on a Sunday morning) and offered several options to make the working relationship work for me financially. She is amazing.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Denise came to support just a few days after my daughter was born when breastfeeding was really difficult and painful. I really enjoyed working with her and so appreciated her help! She brought a scale to assess how much baby was eating and spent a couple hours with us, helping with techniques for baby’s latch and positioning. After the visit, she wrote up and sent a report with all the tips she’d shared, which was very helpful for referencing later. Based on a September 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

5 star! Very knowledgeable, warm, great with baby and mom. Can help any one in any lactation situation. She’s amazing. Covered by insurance. Based on a September 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Really lovely woman who spent a good deal of time with me and my baby However I was dismayed that I had problems getting her to follow up, she never answered my emails after our last visit. My issues weren’t really resolved. Based on a September 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Denise was 100% supportive from day one. My supply came in very late, and without Denise's help, I would not have the supply I have today. Although I was not successful in breastfeeding, Denise tried everything possible to help my baby latch—from attending a lip tie surgery with my baby to practicing with a nipple shield and syringe. I came to terms that exclusively pumping was my best option, and Denise respected my decision. Later on, Denise was there to help when I had a clogged duct, and recommended a breast surgeon. I would have been lost without Denise's help! She goes above and beyond to help me, even as I will eventually wean.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

She was amazing. Came to our house the first day we contacted her, gave us LOTS of options for feeding if the nursing did not improve enough in the moment to continue, and checked in continuously for the next few weeks. Based on April, 2017 birthing experience
  • [June2017babies] Lactation Consultant Recommendation

I second the recommendation for Denise McDonald. She worked with me a few times and she's great!
  • [June2017babies] Lactation Consultant Recommendation

I met Denise McDonald at a breastfeeding support group and thought she was really great. The class I took was pretty helpful- at Bend and Bloom Yoga.
