Girls Dream Out Loud

Curious Jane

Curious Jane is for girls entering 2nd–6th grades. We offer multiple one-week sessions at lovely schools
around New York City and Philadelphia. This summer, we have programs at Marymount (Manhattan),
Berkeley Carroll (Brooklyn), Poly Prep (Brooklyn), Bryn Mawr College (Bryn Mawr) and Springside (Philadelphia).
Call us if you'd like to see one in your city!

Our Program

Curious Jane's hallmarks are our fabulous teachers, small classes, and all-girls environment. Every session of girls
is different; each creates its own magic. We provide an environment for exploration that encourages them to be active,
look at things in new ways, and experiment! We are active and involved – our girls learn and have fun by DOING.

We offer six project-based themes that revolve around design, engineering and the sciences. Girls register
for one theme per week. Guest visitors, trips and group projects relate back to what they are doing and learning.
We play outside often and set aside time for less structured creativity. Our standard day runs 9am-3:30pm,
with after-camp until 5:30. See dates, schedule and themes above.

Our Classes

Our locations have wonderful facilities with sun-lit, air-conditioned classrooms.Class size
is 8-12 students; girl are grouped by age. Our talented, young instructors are endlessly
enthusiastic, and they integrate fresh ways of teaching and connecting. Counselors assist
them to help with projects and provide excellent supervision. Above all, they're a lot of fun!

  • Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Berkeley Carroll REVIEW: The director was very responsive and our girl mostly liked the camp, she was happy to go every day. Our chosen session was not available and the back up we chose was sort of meh but in terms of the camp the staff seemed great and our girl enjoyed her time well enough. We did this camp as our younger daughter was going to Berkeley Carroll so it worked out very well for drop offs. I don’t know that we would do more than a week or two max at Curious Jane but it’s a great camp run by very lovely women that we’d do again. CHANGES: DETAILS: Age of child; 9 … Weeks attended: 1

  • Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Berkeley-Carroll and ISB REVIEW: The camp is well organized, directors are communicative and there are lots of team building and interesting stem adjacent activities. It's all girls and the all of the employees are women. It's a super positive setting and my daughter is very engaged and looks forward to going every year. She wants to be a counselor there when she is older. CHANGES: They need better snacks, they offer snacks but they are always junk like welch's gummies. I’d rather everyone send their own and not deal with that. DETAILS: Age of child; 9 … Weeks attended: 2
  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: ISB How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5.5 Review: She loved the projects she created for the week! What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I would have loved some more pictures to get a glimpse into their day.
  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: International School of Brooklyn - Carroll gardens How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 9 & 6 Review: We did 2 consecutive weeks here this year for both children. This is something they have always enjoyed, which I'm surprised as outdoor time is pretty limited, but it's great to break it up and have some mellow weeks as we experience extreme heat & UV exposure sadly. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Different themes. I think we have taken 80% of the classes offered already. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? Didn't experience this year.
  • Iso: feedback on ymca summer camp

For girls, we were happy with Curious Jane.
  • Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Carroll Gardens How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5-8 Review: We love Curious Jane. It is an all girls crafting camp with plenty of chances to get exercise. Located in ISB, they have a beautiful yard and they are close to a playground. Counselors are kind and are great role models. Crafts are fun and clever. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? They were very cautious and communicated well with families if there was a case.
  • Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey

Location: ISB I'm Carroll Garden How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 8 & 5 Review: The love the crafts and enjoyed their time there. Older one attended one week while the younger did two with a break in between. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? More outdoor time because they crave it, after all it's Summer. As much as they love arts and crafts, they wished there was more outdoor time spent on/ off location.
  • Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Carroll Gardens How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5 Review: My crafty kid loved this camp so much. The art projects were great, the counselors were really sweet, and they did a lot of activities that bonded the kids together. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? It was a long walk for us from Park slope each day, but it was totally worth it. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? We had to submit a negative test before the camp started, no mask requirement which was fine since they were in small groups or outside.
  • Any reccs for kids camp/activities for 5 year old’...

My daughter enjoyed Curious Jane Camp.
  • 2018 Summer Camp Reviews

Summer 2018 Review: The camp is girls only. My child loved that. She kept coming home singing songs like “This girl is on fire....” She felt very empowered. She also loved the camp’s intricate art projects and the St Mary’s playground that they visited daily. Age of child: 4.5 What would you change about the program, if anything? The camp pick up and drop off are in the ISB’s court yard, which is a bit impersonal and keeps things at an arm’s length. We never saw the inside of the space. The camp’s CIT Program was very strong, my daughter loved them—but there was no casual contact

Summer 2018 Review: My daughter did the DIY Dollhouse section - this is the first camp she has ever asked to go back to! She asked to do another week... I think she liked that it is mixed ages, girls only of course, with long stretches for creative activity. No swimming, no ball games, or other things she doesn't much like about traditional camp. Age of child: 5.5
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

My daughter loved Curious Jane camp. She's been talking about science a lot since then and seems to have really learned about the scientific method, though the camp is very fun and engaging - it doesn't feel like school. Age of child: 6 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

My daughter loved Curious Jane! Nurturing environment for young girls, lots of positive girl power energy, and learning in a fun and creative way. Age of child: 7 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

Curious Jane is an all-girls camp and it is wonderful! Girls sign up for a different course every week that focuses on a specific STEM/crafting-related topic. My daughter chose Spa Science and DIY Dollhouse for the two weeks that she attended. They work on their projects all week with playtime and community-building events in between their crafting sessions (for example, one week there was an all-camp talent show that they practiced for all week). She really enjoyed the projects she made, and it's nice that they come home with physical products of their endeavors every week to remind them of their time at camp. The projects seem really fun and very hands on (my daughter learned how to use a glue gun!) They don't leave the campus at all during the day, so it's good for kids who don't like going on field trips. Snack is provided but lunch is not. After-camp is very reasonably priced at $10/day. If you could change anything, what would it be? I wish communication from the counselors had been better. There were theme days that the kids were responsible for telling us about...which of course they forgot to do half of the time. They really should just blast an email out to the parents about this stuff instead of hoping that a 5-year-old will remember. I also wish start time was 8:30 instead of 9. Age of child: 5 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

This is my daughter's favorite camp (and her second year going). She loves the counselors, the different themes, and the general vibe. They offer a variety of themes (Silly Science, Wild Animals, etc) If you could change anything, what would it be? Age of child: 6 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • Summer Camp Survey 2016

Age of child: 10 Review: My daughter really enjoyed her week at CJ this summer. This was either her third or fourth summer. The girls do a lot of very interesting projects. What would you change about the program, if anything? Extend programming later into August.
  • Summer Camp Survey 2016

Age of child: 6 Review: Sea & stars theme. My daughter liked the different theme days. What would you change about the program, if anything? Staffed by people who seemed like they were between 18-22 years old. For the money, very disappointing. Not rigorous or particularly well organized. Robot foundry much better bang for your buck.
  • Review from 2015 Summer Camp Survey

Age of Child: 6 Likes: Very fun and empowering for girls What would you change? It would be great if they could swim at BC since they are using their facility Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend
  • Review from 2015 Summer Camp Survey

Age of Child: 7 Likes: She loved the counselors, and she loved arts and crafts, and since it was mostly arts and crafts, she was happy. She went for a week, and wants to go back for the entire summer next year. I, however, was unimpressed. What would you change? I was absolutely unimpressed with the camp reality as compared to the camp description. We signed up on the basis of the super-exciting Toy Design blurb - but they seemed to veer quite a bit away from the description during her week there. Our daughter herself said they basically just did arts & crafts. Yes, there were quite a few toy-based crafts. But, they weren't particularly impressive (to me) - basically, it was just a really expensive arts & crafts experience - for an art-specific experience, we would have chosen a camp with a more specific art focus with trained art teachers. We were looking for her to have the experience as described in their marketing materials. Plus, they used what I consider to be pretty inappropriate materials for that age, like a large collection of permanent markers. She enjoyed it, I expected a lot more. If you sign up expecting a glorified arts & crafts experience, you will not be disappointed. Would you send your child(ren) again? No Do you recommend? Recommend with reservations
  • 2014 Summer Camp Review

Like: My daughter liked all of her instructors and counselors very much. I liked that many of them are trained (or in training) as educators. My daughter also enjoyed the array of creative activities that went along with each week's theme. The camp is more oriented toward indoor, creative and science activities, and there isn't much in the way of sports or outdoor activities (beyond some playground time) each day. But the levels of activity suited my daughter quite well, and she came home happy and enthusiastic. Change Drop off and pick up are outside on Carroll Street. Although the instructors are incredibly responsible, it still feels a little chaotic and I would prefer to see my daughter off and pick her up from inside the building each day. Would you send again Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend
  • 2014 Summer Camp Review

Age of Child: 9 Likes: My daughter LOVES Curious Jane. The counselors are all young and energetic women who obviously love being with the girls in camp. They do interesting things each day and week. It's a science based curriculum but it's so fun that it doesn't feel like they are "learning" but of course they are learning. She loves the energy, the slower pace where they get to do stuff they like for long stretches of time, the arts and crafts and the techno stuff she created like a robot with markers on its feet. What would you change? Absolutely nothing except that my daughter would like to live at Curious Jane camp. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Do you have any other information to add? Highly recommend

  • 2014 Summer Camp Review

Program: Magic and Mystery/Story Design Age of Child: 6 Likes: My daughter loved this all girls camp with very small group sizes. The activities were very engaging and she came home each day with something to share. She made new friends and the camp culture definitely encourages confidence and support for one another. What would you change? Nothing. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add?
  • 2012 Summer Camp Survey

Camp Curious Jane Jr. Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope Day Care or Sleep Away-- DC Program: Age of Child: 7 Likes: Really welcoming, sweet, low-key and fun atmosphere. They did all sorts of things that appeal to girls (it's a girls only science camp) and also she learned a lot without a focus on learning. Meaning that the science stuff is just rolled into doing fun things. She took Toy Design and Animal Nature and in both programs came home each day super excited about what she did. She also enjoyed the morning meeting in which each "class" did a cheer for the others. She made a lot of friends and really loved the counselors. We will definitely do it again next year! What would you change? I wouldn't change anything! It's just perfect. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? My daughter attended Curious Jane Camp this summer (at the Berkeley Carroll location) and had an AMAZING time. Can't say enough good things about it (all-girl setting, focused on design + creativity). And I wanted to let everyone know that Curious Jane is hosting a Field Trip Series this winter -- one event a month, Dec thru April -- that should be great. Fun experiences, in Bklyn and Manhattan, great way to build community. Here's a link with trip deets: http://curiousjanecamp.com/workshops (November 2011)

Toy Design and Story Arts Location - Berkeley Carroll School How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended camp) Age: - 4 What did you/your child like about the summer camp? They loved that it was an all girls camp even though they like boys as well. It was extremely creative and the girls created wonderful things. They learned cute cheers and it really felt like a camp as opposed to a pre-school that happens in the summer. What would you change about the program? I would love it to be available in Park Slope more than just 4 weeks. Will you send your child back to this summer camp program next year? (Or would you if you could?) Yes Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Highly recommend

Junior Division Location - Berkeley Carroll School How old is your child? (or the age when he/she attended camp) Age: - 6 What did you/your child like about the summer camp? This is a well-run camp for girls with a different theme each week that my daughter just loved. A major plus was the facilities; everything was on-site, including private outdoor space/sprinkler, an indoor gym and different classrooms for their activities. What would you change about the program? It would be great if they could get swim instruction into the curriculum since this site has a pool. Will you send your child back to this summer camp program next year? (Or would you if you could?) Yes Would you recommend this program to other parents for their child in the future? Highly recommend

My daughter, who is 8, attended Curious Jane at Poly Prep this past summer. I never imagined it would be such a fantastic experience-she took Lab Science the first week and Toy Design the second...and actually begged me to enroll her for a third week so she could stay with her new friends. The teachers were excellent--sweet and energetic--and my daughter came home with more projects than the two of us could carry--all things she made herself and couldn't stop talking about. I never thought an all-girls camp would have such an impact on my daughter. There is a program this summer at Berkeley Carroll....definitely enrolling again! (Feb, 2010)
