What month and year was your child born? September 2023 Review: Dr Mcavoy is supportive, confident and easy to work with. Highly recommendReview from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? September 2022 Review: She is super no nonsense, which was a great fit for my husband and me. She listened to our concerns but I didn’t feel (or want to feel) coddled. We received some potentially scary news about our baby’s health and she helped my husband and I process the information and understand our choices and the probable outcomes.Advice on prioritizing experience vs. proximity for pregnancy care
I had two GREAT pregnancies and deliveries with Dr.Christy McAvoy, delivering at Methodist. Her office is above Barnes and Noble.ISO Gynecologist that accepts Emblem Health
Love Dr. Christy McAvoy at Methodist. The office at Methodist can be hard to get in touch with but to me it is worth it. She is an excellent doctor. Had two great pregnancies and deliveries under her care. She took Emblem two years ago and I imagine she still does.Switching to OB/delivery at Brooklyn Methodist?
I delivered at Methodist 3 weeks ago and was seeing Dr. McAvoy at the OBGYN office throughout my pregnancy. I liked every practitioner I saw during my pregnancy and labor and thought the nursing staff at the hospital was excellent. I can definitely relate to the frustration around scheduling an appointment at the clinic though. It was always a hot mess and challenging to get through to a person over the phone but now that the whole hospital switched over to a new phone and messaging system (including the patient portal), it’s nearly impossible. I tried calling to schedule my postpartum appointment for over two weeks before I was able to finally get through a couple of days ago. I kept getting routed to the messaging center, left various messages, but nobody called me back. I was one step away from going into the clinic in person, but finally got through over the phone this past Wednesday. When I called, I selected the option to reschedule an existing appointment (option 1) rather than the “all other inquiries” option (2). I had tried that before when calling without success though so I’m not sure it made a difference. I might have just been lucky this time. I really hope these scheduling difficulties will be resolved once the clinic irons out the kinks with the new messaging system.Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
I started seeing Dr. Christy McAvoy because she delivers at NYP Brooklyn, is a small practice and got great reviews here. I was very unhappy with my experience with her and eventually changed doctors (to Guirguis, who we loved). This was my first baby and I found Dr. McAvoy to be terse, often using technical language and running through important information really fast without stopping to explain. This was especially problematic when we had a test result scare, and spent a week thinking we got terrible news, only to find out that actually the results were not bad, just inconclusive. If you need warm bedside manners and a doctor who explains things thoroughly, I wouldn’t recommend Dr. McAvoy for you.Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
I highly recommend my OB, Dr. Christy McAvoy. She has such a calm and cool presence and very competently handled some post-birth complications. The one issue is her office - it's difficult to reach them, but Dr. McAvoy is very responsive through their online messaging system.Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
Dr. McAvoy was clearly competent but I always felt somewhat rushed during appointments. The practice is really outdated. Though she did not end up delivering my baby as her shift ended, she did come check on me before heading home and introduced the doctor who will take over (appreciated she stayed back after a 24 hour shift). It wasn’t exactly easy to get in touch when I had questions, though she always got back to me on the patient portal.recommended OB/GYN at Methodist?
I gave birth at Brooklyn Methodist in November (first time mom). My OB was Dr. Christy McAvoy. She is straight forward, kept me informed about my options at each stage. I completely trusted her and had a great experience delivering with her. For my appointments, I never had to wait longer than 10 minutes and she always answered all my questions. And she has a really nice nurse if that helps ☺️.Review from the 2021 Birthing Experience Survey
She and her team were amazing. She is very knowledgeable, easy going and honest. My labor and delivery went smoothly and she managed a vaginal delivery, despite the urgent circumstances.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
She is the best! In my two deliveries, she has been perfect — calm, confident, and reassuring! And at appointments, you rarely have to wait to see her.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Dr. McAvoy is very competent. My pregnancy and birth were fairly uncomplicated, but I felt confident that she would calmly handle a crisis. When we ran into a bit of difficulty at the end of labor, we discussed a couple of options and went with the simplest intervention, which worked. Her office ran surprisingly on schedule, which I've heard can be a challenge for many OBs. She functions as a solo practitioner, so barring exceptional circumstances she will be present for all your appointments and for your delivery. If consistency with one physician is important to you, then NYM Women's Health Associates might be a good choice.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Excellent care the whole way through. Dr. McAvoy is straight forward, responsive and kind.2018 Birth Survey
Dr. McAvoy was amazing. She was very practical and no-nonsense during the months leading up to the birth, but it was at the birth itself that she really shone. She was an amazingly calming presence and worked to make the delivery as smooth as possible. My husband and I are considering relocating to a city outside NY, but one of our big hesitations delaying our move is that we want to be sure to keep Dr McAvoy if we have a second baby![Summer2017Babies] OBGYN
So...I second the love for Dr McAvoy in Brooklyn. I didn't have her as my OBGYN but, boy, when the chips were down and I was hemorrhaging in an ER at Methodist 4 days later and signing off on paperwork that could have led them down the path of a hysterectomy on the operating table, i was very grateful to have someone like her! She is definitely no-nonsense and doesn't sugar coat things, that advice is also true. But she speaks plainly and calmly and warmly and the overriding feeling I had with her through my surgeries and ICU experience was how I was in utterly competent hands. Nice when you're passing clots the size of oranges! TMI....[Summer2017Babies] OBGYN
I delivered with Dr. McAvoy in Park Slope – just as a further note to what others are saying: she's a very competent doctor and surgeon (I ended up having a C-section), and she did honor my wishes whenever possible, but she is extremely no-nonsense and straightforward. On a couple of occasions, I found her to be a bit brusque and dismissive. This isn't necessarily an issue but if bedside manner is important to you, she's not super warm and fuzzy. (She was recommended by a friend, and my friend felt her style/manner was a great antidote to neurosis, so it might just be me.)[Summer2017Babies] OBGYN
If you’re looking for someone in Park Slope, I went to Dr. Christy McAvoy and I loved her! She makes herself so available, answering emails all the time. She’s direct and she’s on top of things. I had a somewhat poor experience with an OBGYN with my first pregnancy and I felt so fortunate to find Dr. McAvoy for my second.Thoughts on delivering at Methodist and any recs for OB affiliated with Methodist?
Dr McAvoy is my OB and she is wonderful! Straight to the point, no nonsense, always has time to answer your questions, explains things clearly but doesn't treat you like an idiot.Review submitted via the Park Slope Parents 2017 Birth Survey
Dr. McAvoy is the best. She was calm, cool, and collected throughout the entire birth of our daughter. She offered down to earth and realistic advice and was always available via email when I had a question. Based on a August 2017 birthing experience.Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey
She was amazing- throughout the entire process I really grew to trust her, so when things got a little scary during delivery, I knew it would be okay. Based on a June 2017 birthing experienceReview submitted via the PSP Birth Survey
She is a dream doctor. I have recommended her to several friends. She has been my GYN for years, and I have valued her in that regard (straightforward, short wait at appointments). So of course I wanted her as my OB, and in that capacity, she was outstanding! Again, I valued that at appointments there was short to no wait time to see her. And, again, I valued her straightforward, no-nonsense nature. She is relaxed so made me feel relaxed. Then, at the birth, her superhero abilities really shone through. Her personality made her the perfect presence at my birth; she was calm, kind, and helpful when I was having contractions, and she was a phenomenal coach during pushing -- knowing just what and how to tell me what to do. My husband felt the same way about her. I 100% recommend her to others. Based on March 2017 birth experienceReview submitted via 2015 Birth Survey
REVIEW: I like Dr McAvoy because she is fairly even keeled, positive and practical. And her appointments run on time! This is no thanks to the staff in the office. INSURANCE Accepted insurance seamlessly. Based on a April 2015 birthRe: Can anyone recommend a local Ob/Gyn and Acupuncturist?
I second Dr. Christy McAvoy. She's great.Responses to: ISO ob-gyn who takes Aetna
Office in the faculty practice building above Barnes & Noble in Park Slope Affiliated with Methodist, takes Aetna, essentially a solo practitioner so if you need OB services she will 99% deliver your baby Fantastic doctor all around - smart, personable, & a real advocate for her patients (especially in light of the administrative and ancillary staff shortcomings at that hospital) She delivered both of my childrenResponses to: ISO ob-gyn who takes Aetna
She's part of the faculty practice at Methodist (in the building above barnes & noble on 7th ave in park slope) but is essentially solo for her private patients so 99% she will deliver your baby, not someone else. She delivered both of my children & though I'm not a huge fan of Methodist, my experience with her both times was excellent (& each delivery was very different). She's sweet, smart, progressive, & most importantly a great advocate for her patients. Can't say enough good things about her.
