  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Court street and Carroll street How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5 Review: My son attended one week of “encanto camp” and enjoyed it a lot. I don’t really have a great sense of what they did during the day, beyond spending a lot of time in the studio and going to the playground at Carroll park, but he went to camp happily in the mornings and came home happy. Considering he was only there one week, it seemed like the counselors did a great job of creating a nice routine and a little community in that short time.
  • Review from the Fall 2022 After School Survey

Location: PS 32 Name of the specific program, if applicable: PS 32 pre-K afterschool class How old was your child during the Fall 2022 semester? 4 What kind of program is it? after school program, with a basis in drama Review: My son did the after school program with Child's Play NY four days a week this past fall and will be continuing it in the Spring. It was the only option offered on-site at his school for pre-k. While we did have to pay for it and at first it seemed a little pricey for a school-based after-school program (about $75/day), it has been worth it, both for the convenience of it being offered on-site and the quality of the program. The staff at Child's Play is very friendly and accommodating and they offer refunds or make-ups for days when he misses aftercare (up to 3 sessions). All of the teachers are professional actors who have a love for working with children. There are different teachers depending on the day, but some of them teach more than one day. There are always 2 teachers from Child's Play and one para from PS 32 with about 8 or so students. Each day they engage in a fun story-based activity that generally involves art, often with clay. And they have a chance to do drama exercises. And some time playing outside each day. My son has really enjoyed his time with Child's Play and asks if he can go to after-school on the one day when he doesn't have it. I think it has helped build his confidence being in front of a group and it definitely has fueled his imagination and ability to engage in story play. We've been really happy and will consider sending him for camps through Child's Play on days when school is not in session. What skills did your child develop? team work, cooperative play, imaginative development, confidence in expressing himself What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Can't think of anything.
  • Review from the 2021 Summer Camp Survey

Name of camp: Child’s Play NYC Location: Fort Greene How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 4 Review: This camp is a theater/drama camp but perfect for any child with a big imagination. Each week was a different theme, filled with games, make believe, and role playing. My daughter was in heaven. At the end of the week they send a video with footage from the whole week which was very cute. My daughter loved showing it off to us. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? I wish they offered aftercare as we really need camp until at least 5 pm daily. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? They had a daily screening form and required masks
  • Shout out to Child's Play

I just wanted to shout out Child's Play https://childsplayny.com/ for awesome online programming. My 3rd grader has been taking virtual classes with them for many months now and loves it. This past week they ran a special holiday camp, every morning 9:30-11:30 and we signed our Pre-K kiddo up too, figuring out was worth a try (normally online classes are *not* her thing). She LOVED it. They are extending their camp another week in case your kids are still off school, we signed our little one up again since her remote school is in the afternoon. They also have weekly classes that are affordable and super engaging. I don't have any affiliation with Child's Play other than being a very happy customer.
  • Fall theater program

I recommend Child's Play NY. They have spots throughout Brooklyn for different age groups. Both of my children have worked with them. My son did Seussical in 4th grade. He had never done a musical before and was cast in the lead role (and we learned he could carry a tune really well!). My daughter was in Willy Wonka in 1st grade and discovered that she prefers to be backstage and not have any lines or be on stage at all. :) That said, as a person in theater myself, I found the exercises that they did with the kids to be great and age appropriate. Sometimes they were a little ambitious with the choreography they expected of the littlest ones but I think your 7th grader would be fine.
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

The camp was absolutely amazing. My son is a BIG introvert and came out of his shell. They changed some formats to get him to feel comfortable and adjusted to each individuals needs. If you could change anything, what would it be? That they don't serve snacks. in a 3 hour time frame it is really not needed, if they do want to serve something they should keep it with apples. They were great about allergies though! Age of child: 3 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • 2014 Summer Camp Review

Like: The Snow Queen theme was perfect for my Frozen-obsessed child; they had at least 4-5 counselors every day; counselors were also very energetic and kept the 4-5 year old active and entertained. Change: Wish it was an all-day program but it may have been too much for my 4 1/2 year old... Would you send again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend (reviewed September 2014)

I can heartily second this recommedation. My daughter had drama camp with Jocelyn at child's play this summer and it was a wonderful experience!

Just wanted to give a shout out for a great theater class for kids 6-10. They learn and perform a Shakespeare play, and this coming term they will be performing Hamlet. My son was Macbeth in August and it was a great experience. They learned so much and put on an incredible performance.

I highly recommend Child's Play summer workshops! My five-year-old daughter has been taking classes with Jocelyn who runs the program for the last year, including a summer workshop last summer. She has adored the classes! She brings what she learns home as she incorporates the whole family into her "shows" with us each getting a turn to make up part of the story and then acting it all out. It has been such a wonderful way to encourage her imagination as well as develop other theatre concepts. I have particularly noticed how Jocelyn is able to get all the children in the class involved and enthusiastic in the class so that everyone has a great time. We have been thrilled with these classes! (june, 2010)
