Chai Tots Daycare experience
We have our two year old in Chai Tots and started at 18 months. We're at the Windsor Terrace location and really love it. I'm not sure if they start any earlier than 18 months. The teachers are super kind and attentive, and our little girl is learning a lot -- there's a heavy Jewish learning component, but it's something we appreciate. They do sweet shabbat parties every Friday and bake their own challah. The downside to Chai Tots from our perspective is the ridiculous number of days it doesn't operate -- Jewish holidays and American holidays and extra days too. This makes it really challenging for working parents because they don't offer bridge coverage like other schools (for ex: the JCC). That said, the child:caregiver ratio is great. Also, note that you will be packing lunch/snacks for your kid -- it's not provided there which is extra work for parents too.Chai Tots Preschool
We have sent our daughter to the 3s program in Windsor Terrace and the UPK program in the Park Slope location. We have been so happy with all experiences, and recommend it so highly. The 3s was the first year my daughter attended a full day programming and the staff were amazing at helping her make this transition. Everyone was so warm, and welcoming, and they were extremely attentive and caring to her. We have always felt that she was in such good hands, and truly well cared for, which for was most important. Additionally, they go outside 2x a day (both spaces have outdoor yards, one has two), they do fantastic art projects and activities, they bake, and my daughter has learned a lot about Jewish culture and holidays. She has also learned her letters, sounds, etc. with a good mix of open ended play and lessons. Knowing my child, she has thrived with the supportive structure. She enjoys going to school each day, and even asked to attend the afterschool program to be with her friends. We will be sending our younger daughter there in the fall again for the 3s. We couldnt be happier to be part of the Chai Tots community- both the school and the related community activities are wonderful for our whole family!Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education Survey
Location: Windsor Terrace Type of facility: Preschool, 3K Review: We loved it! great teachers, backyard, organized, kind and caring. She got a lot of individual attention and seemed so happy. It was such a warm place with a focus on both secular studies and judaism- for us this was important. What amenities does the facility have? Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours What would you change about the program, if anything? NA Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? I thought they were as good as possible with changing rules etcReview from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
Type of facility: Preschool Review: So far, we have been really happy with the program. This is our child's first time in an all day 3s program. We are jewish, but more culturally/secular and we like the influx of jewish programming without it seeming to be over the top. We also appreciate how much outside of school activities that they organize. Daily, they send home little notes about her best part of the day, eating, sleep etc, we get a blog and lots of pictures. I have a found a good mix of play and fun time/outdoor/arts with some preschool learning. The downside is that there are supposed to be two teachers in the class, and we have a sub for the second which has been hard. What amenities does the facility provide? My daughter attended when she was three and now my son is in his second year in the fours program. The teachers are very nurturing and warm and my children were always happy to go to school. I am not religious and my husband isn't jewish so I was not psyched about the jewish ed aspect but it's very light and as a friend reassured me when I was enrolling, "it's almost exclusively done in painted macaroni projects" meaning it's all fun. The warmth of the teachers is the biggest draw for us. The management is not superb but we didn't have to deal with that much.
