  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: I cannot tell you how incredible this midwife team is. Jenna was with me for the birth, but any of them would have been fantastic! I delivered very late (42 weeks) and wanted to wait and see if the baby would drop and labor would begin without intervention – they supported me in that and we scheduled an induction as far out as allowed by the hospital. I was in labor by the time I arrived at the hospital for the induction and due to heart rate issues with the baby ended up having a cecarian. Jenna was by my side the whole time and I felt informed and able to make decisions without pressure from the OB on call or nurses. I always felt safe and heard and though nothing went to plan, I am still very happy with the experience.

What month and year was your child born? Oct 2022 Review: Fantastic. Holistic, trauma informed, consent based. [Jenna Sood was] fantastic. Followed my birth plan, educated me about risks, benefits and alternatives of each intervention, honored my identify and ideals.
  • OB-GYN or midwife practice in Manhattan delivering at Mount Sinai West?

I had fantastic experience with Central Park Midwifery! Elaine, Christina, and Jenna are attentive, loving, supportive midwives. My pregnancy had some hiccups/complicayions and they were never alarmist and gave appropriate guidance in serious/worrisome situations. I was very well cared for. My delivery at MSW was great even though it was different than I expected. I had such a positive pregnancy and birth and I am so grateful to them. The only downside was the shlep from Brooklyn to their office!

Can’t recommend Central Park Midwives enough. Had a wonderful experience from start to finish with them.
  • OB-GYN or midwife practice in Manhattan delivering at Mount Sinai West?

I cannot recommend Central Park Midwives enough! Even though I live in Park Slope they were/are worth every subway ride to my appointments. I delivered at MSW with them and they 100% put *me* and my family first, not the hospital's interests.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

I had a really great rapport with all three midwives but especially one in particular. The pregnancy care was great and they were always very responsive if I had an issue and happy to send prescriptions to the pharmacy if necessary and always within a few hours of contact. At birth, they were happy-ish for us to negotiate about interventions but because I had become high risk, they did not get much say in care in the end and were directed by hospital. General piece of advice, if you have midwife and you end up in high risk category, switch to OBGYN to save money because you won’t end up with the birth you were planning.

I had a fantastic experience with all the midwives at Central Park Midwifery, which is affiliated with Mt Sinai West. Elaine Keller-Duemig runs the practice, and she is so knowledgeable, warm, and patient. Chloe Lubell, who was part of the practice but has since opened her own in Brooklyn, attended the birth of my son and is also incredible. I am so very grateful for their care, including through a pretty rough final month of the pregnancy. Elaine was ready to chat by phone or text day or night in those final weeks, which was such a comfort.
  • CPM review

I never had such a positive medical experience as I did with the midwives at CPM. I had a truly wonderful pregnancy and birth thanks to them. While Elaine is the one who delivered my baby, I had appointments with Elaine, Chloë and Christina, and loved all three of them equally. Now that it’s all over, I will actually miss them! I was seen by an OB for the first 4 months of my pregnancy, at which point I decided to switch to CPM; the more I read about pregnancy and birth, the more I wanted to be followed by midwives and have a chance at a low-intervention birth. The switching process was very easy - I simply had to get my medical records sent to the CPM office. I never felt rushed during an appointment, and always had ample time to ask questions and discuss concerns; that was probably the biggest difference between my experience with the midwives and that with my OB. Bonus: my appointments almost always started on time. Elaine, Chloë and Christina were always friendly, caring and reassuring, but also always professional and rigorous. I labored at home for a long time, during which my doula and I spoke with Christina on the phone regularly and was encouraged to stay home for as long as felt comfortable doing so. Elaine and Christina were waiting for me at the triage desk as soon as I made it to the hospital, and accompanied me through every step afterwards. Even though I was completely open to the idea of using pain medication and the midwives would have supported my decision either way, I managed to deliver my baby fully naturally, even despite a long labor; Elaine was an awesome coach and helped me believe I had the strength to keep going. Despite my long labor, I was never rushed and always allowed to progress at my own speed. Elaine always kept her cool, explained everything thoroughly, asked for my consent before every procedure and, very importantly, did an amazing job stitching me up when it was all over. Following my baby’s birth, Elaine and Christina stuck around for a few hours and made sure I was comfortable and feeling good before heading home. Chloë and Christina visited me in the hospital the next day and made sure I was doing well and was well informed about my postpartum care before being discharged. I really did feel like they cared only about the health of my baby (although they definitely did!), but also about my own health, physical and mental. Even during the difficult postpartum period, they checked in regularly, making sure I was doing well and that I had all the support I needed. If I am so lucky to get pregnant again, I will most certainly use their services and would advise anyone looking for kind, compassionate and respectful pregnancy care providers to do so too. Don't let the fact that they are on the Upper West Side scare you away - labouring in the car isn't that much worst than labouring at home or in the hospital; it's absolutely worth it!

    The best but now retired
  • 2018 Birth Survey

All the midwives at CPM are awesome. Very kind and invested in you. I was hoping for something of an Ina May Gaskin type experience and this came pretty close! I did have some complications early in my pregnancy and one of the midwives at CPM was instrumental in helping me resolve what regular OBGYNs had no answer for besides "wait and see". The prenatal care was thorough and they always took the time to answer any questions I had. They also answer texts and emails and were just great about communication in general. They made me feel competent and confident in my native ability to give birth.
