I think that sleep-away summer camp is one of the best gifts you can give your child -- in terms of building self-reliance, independence, problem solving, and ohL THE MOST FUN. I went every summer for 8 weeks to a camp in Maine - an all girls “old school” camp (think: a beloved (and easy to pack!) uniform, a 100-year-history; good natured color war) It was just the most kind, loving and fun place you can imagine. Last summer my daughter (now 10) started there, although the full session is now a “mere” 7 weeks. (They also have 3 and 4 week options which is good for first timers...)
