Megan Davidson was my doula for what ended up being a somewhat traumatic birth. She was absolutely phenomenal and wonderful and I credit her with many (if not all) of the positives. She's calm, patient, extremely knowledgeable, and all around a wonderful person and doula. I would use her again in a heartbeat and recommend her wholeheartedly.

  • Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? April 2023 Review: We cannot say enough about Megan -- she was and continues to be the MVP on our birth team. She helped us navigate a very unpredictable birth scenario and was able to maintain some of the most meaningful aspects of our birth plan even when most parts of the plan were turned on their head. Megan was central to our experience -- she worked extraordinarily well with Dr. Whitehead and the entire hospital team. We highly recommend her doula services -- pre-baby classes through birth experience and support for the entire first year of life -- Megan is truly special and an incredible resource. We feel so lucky to be with her. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? Do it and pay for a good one if there is any way you can. We stretched for it but it has been so incredibly worth it.

What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: Great online childbirth session, but only covered vaginal deliveries. Valuable information was shared - it was accessible and not too extensive, which is what we were looking for.

Megan Davidson is the best! https://www.brooklyndoula.com/ She supported my through both of my births (2012 and 2016) and she was the very first person I told I was pregnant with my second since I wanted to make sure I was on her schedule.

What month and year was your child born? April 2022 Review: I can't praise Megan enough or imagine how I would have gotten through my mildly traumatic birth without her steady, calming presence. She's an invaluable wealth of information and the doctors/nurses seemed impressed by the accuracy of the medical explanations she was giving me. Her classes also helped mr feel as prepared as one can feel going into the craziness of childbirth. She's truly the best. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? It's worth it. My birth was not at all what I had hoped for, and I'm convinced I only had a successful induction while on magnesium for preeclampsia because of Megan's guidance and help putting me into better positions.
  • Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? February 2022 Review: Choosing Megan as our doula was one of the best decisions we made during our pregnancy. She has attended an insane amount of births and it shows. She is also one of the most professional and responsive people I have met in my life and is extremely kind and patient. My husband and I started working with her around the time I received a gestational diabetes diagnosis. When we let her know of the diagnosis she could sense I was in distress and offered to talk to me immediately. Upon speaking with her I instantly became more calm and understood what this meant for my pregnancy. We also were questioning if we should switch practices during the pregnancy. What is great about Megan is she is non-judgemental and never “told us what to do” but rather talked through options and helped us realize what made sense for us. She helped us choose a new practice by laying out all of the facts and really used her insights into what she learned about us through conversations to help us navigate our options. She has an extremely high EQ and understands people which is invaluable. When it came time for delivery it became clear that not only does she have a deep understanding of people but also truly is an expert in childbirth. I can honestly say she knew more than the registered nurses at the hospital. I was somebody who was very afraid of childbirth but Megan broke down everything for me in a way that was calming and it made it clear what was going on. Her style was to give the facts and empower me to make my own decision. When I did ask her for what she would recommend (because I am extremely indecisive) she would give me the “why” behind her answer and her recommendations always turned out to be the right thing for me to do. I cannot recommend her enough. I truly believe if we had not gone with Megan we could have had an extremely stressful pregnancy and would not have felt nearly as supported. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? I think sometimes you get what you pay for. We interviewed a bunch with different price ranges and found some of the cheaper ones to be flakey.

What month and year was your child born? November 2021 Review: Megan was really helpful to have in the delivery room (even though I never really labored…long story) bc she helped me communicate my wishes. She also was able to help me get up to go to the bathroom with my IV and stuff, which doesn’t sound especially y helpful, but let me tell you it was. It also took a lot of stress off my husband and she just helped distract us when we needed it. Post partum support was really helpful too.
  • Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey

Megan Davidson is an outstanding doula and I can't imagine going through the birth process without her. She has a warm and grounded presence, is funny, and is just a lovely person to spend long and at-times intense hours with; both my spouse and I felt completely non-anxious going into our labor and delivery in her care. We loved her classes on childbirth, postpartum care, and other topics; she is a charismatic and natural teacher. Unsurprisingly, Megan shines during every phase of labor and delivery. After my contractions began to intensify, we kept in close communication with Megan by text and phone. She helped us evaluate different decision points: when to meet us at our house, when to go the hospital, and when to escalate pain management. She is a good listener and also doesn't shy away from sharing her opinion in a direct and helpful way. I had excruciating back pain during labor and she continuously massaged my lower back for literal hours, including when I was screaming bloody murder in the car en route to the hospital. Through it all, Megan remained a calming and supportive presence. During delivery, Megan worked with my spouse and the care team to help me push effectively. And then she shared in our joy when our daughter was born. Postpartum, Megan continues to be a trusted guide. Of course it is reasonable to expect any doula to be caring and supportive, but Megan has a special sparkle. Megan is an extremely effective and precise communicator with any stakeholder (clinical staff, spouse, birthing person), she is deeply knowledgeable and experienced, and is just the whole package.
  • Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey

Megan is amazing! Super experienced and knowledgeable. She is evidence based for everything but also is very good at understanding what you want/need and making that feel prioritized. She makes it all feel very personal and personalized. She was also good at helping my partner and I figure out any places in our birth prep where we weren’t initially aligned. I was so glad to have her help and resources in planning the birth and at the birth itself she couldn’t possibly have been better. She knew what I needed before I could articulate it and was also helpful when I needed to say “no” to something. Perfect blend of hands on and giving me space and supporting my partner. She is also very available over text for anything that might come up. She can do an a la cart experience depending on what kind of service you are looking for. We went all in and were glad about it except that because the post partum service is really unstructured I wasn’t really sure how to take advantage of it.
  • birth doula recommendation

She has attended over 500 births in NYC, wrote the essential book about preparing for birth (Your Birth Plan) and is just an all around super knowledgeable and wonderful person. She definitely has experience with VBAC and all of the NYC hospitals, and she was incredible in both of my home births. She is the first person I told about my second pregnancy because I wanted to make sure she would be available to support me again. I highly recommend her with all my being!
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Hiring Megan was one of the best decisions we've ever(!) made. I'm so grateful to have had her support and guidance before, during, and after the birth. She helped us navigate some medical decisions at the hospital, and always made sure that we were fully informed about everything that was happening. She is a warm and wonderful human; I'm incredibly happy that she was part of our experience.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Megan Davidson was my doula and I could not recommend her more highly. She had such immense experience with birth and all things related to it. I had not had a doula with my firstborn and felt it would be helpful after that experience. I had worried about what it would feel like to have a "stranger" in the room while giving birth, both for my own comfort and my husband's. With Megan we both felt comfortable the entire time. She took care of both of us through the whole process. Most importantly, she was an incredible advocate, and I can honestly say that I got better care in the hospital because of her advocacy and knowledge. She also supported me with massage and other techniques during my medication-free labor and made that experience as okay as I think it can be!
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

I can't recommend Megan highly enough. Even with a scheduled c-section, I was thrilled she was there advocating in the hospital with me. My baby was a "borderline" case for going to the NICU, and the hospital was closely monitoring his blood sugar. But their instructions to me were unclear and I couldn't keep track of anything they were saying or what I was supposed to be doing to keep him out of the NICU. Megan stayed with us for HOURS helping us with breastfeeding and helping me advocate for myself and my family so that I could remain with my son. She is a delight to be around, she knows absolutely everyone in the hospital, and she helped my husband feel helpful and a part of the process the entire time.

  • Doula Recommendation

I couldn't miss the opportunity to second Megan Davidson -- and everything you said about her, Rachel! I didn't work with a doula for my first birth, but after some serious complications early on in my second pregnancy, I found Megan thanks to a recommendation on PSP. Not only was she invaluable in the delivery room, but she knows the NYC birthing scene like the back of her hand, and helped me navigate the very confusing process of sorting out my medical team after unexpectedly becoming a high-risk patient. She is so knowledgable, adaptable, and non-judgmental that I'm sure she would be an incredible person to have in your corner while navigating pregnancy and delivery during these uncertain times.
  • Doula Recommendation

I’ve sung her praises before — I think the world of Megan Davidson. At the very least, I recommend an introductory convo to see if she is available and could be a good fit. She’s attended over 600 births (including virtual), knows the ins and outs of all the hospitals and OB/midwife practices, and she’s charming and caring without being hippie dippy (though that might work for some people!). Our birth experience wasn’t perfect but Megan helped us stay on track as much as possible. My wife and I both came away from the birth thinking we hoped to ever be as good at our jobs as we felt like she is at hers.
  • Shoutout for doula Megan Davidson, providing virtue support

With various restrictions and uncertainties at area hospitals, I wanted to give a shout-out to our doula Megan Davidson who was amazing through my pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I used her text and phone support a lot, including after appointments at the OB when I was left feeling confused or overwhelmed. I can only imagine those feelings must be really amplified right now. She’s one of the most experienced doulas in the city and she’s offering virtual services. I really think it could be helpful for pregnant folks and their partners, and/or a nice gift for the pregnant or newly postpartum folks we know and want to support. https://www.brooklyndoula.com/ I don’t have any affiliation - just a grateful client. I learned about her through the PSP reviews when I was pregnant and want to spread the word. oh, we also did a birth education class with her and that could easily be done virtually as well!

  • OBGYN for C-section

I would recommend you talk to doula Megan Davidson. After a bad experience with my first birth, she recommended a fabulous doctor for my second who helped me have a wonderful experience. She has been a doula for years in NYC and is great at advising people on what doc or midwife fits their needs. She is totally nonjudgmental and is a true champion for every mom (and dad) to help make each birth the best possible experience even when things go array. And she just wrote a book. Here is her email- brooklyndoula@gmail.com
  • 2019 Birth Survey

My OB told me that Megan is the best doula there is! Megan is extremely knowledgeable about the science and facts of birth, non-judgemental and down-to-earth. She is extremely responsive. Her expert experience (500-600 births) was extremely helpful in making my birth plan and also helped me feel comfortable and at ease during what turned out to be a very medicalized birth (induction, in utero fetal heart monitoring, an epidural, and just a lot of things poking and prodding me). She has continued to remain a resource for me, especially with questions related to breastfeeding.
  • 2018 Birth Survey

If you’ve never been through pregnancy before (and even if you have), hire a doula, and if you’re hiring a doula, hire Megan. She is totally non-judgemental, incredibly knowledgeable, known and liked by every OB in my office so maybe in yours, too, supportive, and protective. She answered all the little questions I had during pregnancy, and let me know when to call the doctor about various concerns and what to say. During labor, she was incredibly supportive and also filled in as my proxy when nurses were asking questions she knew the answer to and I was in too much pain to answer, and got rid of student nurses and doctors when it became clear to her (but not them) that I couldn’t handle their presence (she is so perceptive!). She acted as my source-of-truth when my labor turned complicated very quickly and I couldn’t make sense of all the things being shouted at me by doctors and nurses, and she even kept my husband calm too. And if that’s not enough, she also has a great, dry sense of humor.

I feel like Megan saved my life. She got me through an incredibly traumatic bath experience and stayed at my side literally and figuratively for a long time thereafter. She is as good as it gets. Smart, non-judgmental, and extremely experienced. You can't go wrong with Megan.

Megan is amazing. She is one if the most caring and fantastic people I've ever met, period. My pregnancy was pretty standard, and my labor was that much more manageable thanks to her incredible expertise and intuition. Her practice is data-based, and she debunks a lot of pregnancy and labor myths which is so reassuring and refreshing. Can't recommend her enough! Based on a June 2017 birthing experience

She is amazing. Without her I would have had the baby on the side of the road--she was the only reason I agreed to go to the hospital. Based on a April 2017 birthing experience
  • Review of Birthing Doula Megan Davidson

Megan is an immensely skilled, knowledgeable, experienced, and sensitive doula. We first met her when I was less than two months pregnant, and right away she gauged what things were most important to us and was already thinking about ways to meet those needs. She was the one who suggested our midwives, whom we had never even heard of before, and they turned out to be the perfect fit. Throughout the course of the pregnancy, and after, every suggestion she made was tailored for us, and we quickly came to trust her implicitly. Megan truly is an advocate for prospective parents. She made sure to touch base before and after every appointment with the midwives to answer any questions or to put some of the hoops we had to jump through into perspective (the midwives work out of a hospital birth center, so they are bound by many policies we were hoping to avoid). She let us know what to say and how to say it to make sure we always had the best experience possible. When I went into labor, Megan was on call, talking me through early labor pains and ready to come over at the drop of a hat. She got me into a calm and steady rhythm that helped me to cope with the pain and to labor at home as long as possible (which paid off: I gave birth less than two hours after arriving at the hospital). She was a calming force from start to finish, and she anticipated every possible need I might have had. Megan’s expertise does not end in the delivery room. She is also a certified lactation consultant. My son had difficulty latching in the hospital, and they didn’t want him to leave until they were sure he had eaten. Megan helped me to hand express (actually, she did all the work) and fed my son, drop by drop. The next day, after we were discharged, she was at my house working on latching. Since then, she has been readily available by phone for any other early childhood questions we have had (and we’ve had a lot!). We consider her a friend and could not imagine going through this process without her. If I get pregnant again, she will absolutely be my first call.

We used Megan for a 3-hour childbirth class that more or less provided all my husband and I needed to know before birth. We clearly weren't looking for an in-depth, method-based class, but more of an overview and basic understanding. We provided questions to Megan in advance so that she could address them during the class. We also split the cost, which was incredibly reasonable, with another couple who joined us. • Review for Brooklyn Doula- Megan Davidson

When we first got pregnant, my husband and I weren't sure we wanted a doula at all, and we definitely didn't know what qualities to look for in one. We interviewed a few to get a sense of our options, and Megan immediately stood out to us. Her answers to all of our questions gave us confidence and comfort; she was able to talk us through, in detail, what exactly happens from the time you head to the hospital. She seemed to intuit things we might want to know but didn't even consider asking. After meeting her, we decided we definitely wanted a doula and we wanted it to be her. She spent time getting to know us and our hopes for the birth of our child. When labor came she modeled deep breathing, and helped me labor at home for as long as was safe. At the hospital she continued this coaching and became an important interpreter for the medical team. Our doctors and nurses were terrific but Megan provided an important bridge between us, and she was familiar enough with our hospital that she knew which nurses were the nicest, where we could find extra pillows, and whether a loudly-beeping machine was something urgent or simply a "low-battery" alarm that could be ignored or turned off. My mom really appreciated regular updates from Megan as my mom anxiously awaited arrival of her fourth grand daughter. After our daughter was born, Megan helped her latch and our breast feeding has gone wonderfully since that moment in the recovery room. Perhaps most significant to me was Megan's post partum visit a few days after we left the hospital. She helped me make sense of the birth complications and decisions we made without any judgement but with kindness, and a firmness that only inspires confidence. Megan is deeply sensitive, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her work. She has a unique ability to read people and then match and anticipate their needs through an experience that is truly shape shifting. She seems to have a magical quality of being right there when you want or need her, and knowing when to give you a few minutes to yourself. I enthusiastically recommend Megan if you are looking for a supportive, highly skilled and deeply intuitive doula.
  • Review for Brooklyn Doula Megan Davidson

I wrote to Megan when I was three or four months pregnant and I am so glad I did. When I hired her, I had no idea how many questions I was going to have throughout my pregnancy. Megan wasn't just a doula, she was a counselor. Available day or night whenever I was worried before, during, and after I brought home my lovely daughter. We had a slightly non-traditional family situation and Megan helped me to navigate this at the hospital seamlessly. The hospital wanted to send me home and Megan reminded me that I did not have to go -- we were told to walk the halls and she was there, helping me labor VERY publicly since the hospital didn't want to admit me yet, and there is no way I would have done that without her there. Just after my daughter was born there was a very scary situation (warning - graphic details to follow) in which I lost about 2.5 liters of blood very quickly and there were all of a sudden 14 doctors & nurses in the room and I didn't really understand what was happening, but Megan was right there, translating for me, making sure I was as comfortable as possible, running interference with my mother and partner, and advocating for us with the hospital staff so that I wouldn't be separated from my newborn in the first 24 hours of her life when I needed to be kept in intensive care. It could have been so frightening, but Megan was there and we trusted her and she took care of everything. My partner couldnt believe how calm she was the whole time! When she went home (after 48 hours!) my mom, partner and I were like "what do we do now?"! But she was only a text way, and she had another delivery at the hospital the next day so she checked in with us, too. We probably texted her 50 times in the first two weeks; I just can't tell you how comforting it was to have her available. There are so many things about my birth experience that could have gone wrong, but because of Megan they didn't. I feel so lucky that I found her, and if we have another child we'll hire her again, no question.
  • ROOKLYNDOULA - MEGAN DAVIDSON review

Megan Davidson is an amazing doula and I highly recommend her! Along with having demystified the labor and delivery process, she wore several hats: she was my at-home labor cheerleader, my in-hospital advocate, she referred us to many other necessary healthcare providers, and just an awesome person to have on and by my side. She wasn't overly earth-mother crunchy (which I was wary of), but she was totally nurturing. She didn't not judge or pressure any of my decisions. Her postpartum support helped me navigate challenges from tongue tie to breastfeeding problems, and in turn, fostered the self-care necessary for me to be present for my new baby.
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Megan is the absolute best! She is empowering, nurturing, kind, extremely knowledgeable, and very experienced. She spends a lot of time getting to know her clients before birth and my husband and I loved spending time with her. During my labor she was a calming and supportive presence. After being discharged from the hospital I had difficulty breastfeeding and she came over and since that visit I have been breastfeeding confidently with no issues. I still text and email her and she responds quickly with kindness, compassion and lots of helpful tips and knowledge. Based on November, 2016 birth experience
  • Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey

Hiring Megan was the number one best decision we made and my most enthusiastic recommendation from my pregnancy. I wasn't sure if we needed a doula -- I knew i'd be delivering in the hospital with an epidural -- but I'm so glad we went with her. She has seen it all and was so helpful throughout the pregnancy. We ended up having some crazy complications, and things started moving very fast and were very confusing (and the doctors were -- rightfully! -- focused on medical stuff and not necessarily on my understanding every detail of what was happening). I don't know what I would have done without Megan's calming presence with us. She totally saved the day, and given all that went wrong I think I would have had such a different birth experience and memories of that day if we didn't have her to help us navigate everything and make sure we still got what was important to us. She even sat with my parents in the waiting room while I was in surgery and explained what was happening -- my parents still talk about how great she was. And our doctors (who we expected to be a little skeptical about our bringing a doula into the OR) later commented about how great she was and that they were glad she was there. She's expensive, but you have her throughout your pregnancy and she is constantly available to answer questions or talk through anything. Also, having her as a SUPER experienced, well-educated resource meant that we didn't spend money on things like childbirth classes. She spent so much time with us and we never ever felt rushed. I have half-joked to my husband that I want to get pregnant again just so we can hang out with Megan more. Based on February 2017 birth experience

We used Megan for post-partum doula services only. She was a fantastic resource. She patiently addressed our (many) first-time parent questions with evidence-backed answers, no judgment and, importantly, by giving us many options to try without insisting that one way was always the best way. Based on December 2016 birth experience

Megan is an all star. She was calm and supportive before, during and after our daughter was born. I can't recommend her enough. Member notes about insurance: No, but my insurance (GHI) is pretty terrible. Based on a January 2016 birthing experience
  • REVIEW: Brooklyn Doula (Megan Davidson)

I am so thankful that we found and hired Megan to be our doula when I was a few months pregnant. She is incredibly knowledgable about almost any topic related to pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum period, parenting, etc. and presents her knowledge in a truly nonjudgemental way, encouraging you to come to your own decisions about what you want or what you believe is important. I felt so supported knowing that she was drawing from a great depth of client experience whenever she shared information/stories with us. In addition, Megan is a naturally warm, caring, and funny person, so both my husband and I felt incredibly comfortable sharing such an intimate and intense experience with her. Our daughter was almost 2 weeks overdue, so I was in touch with Megan every day during that period either by text or phone call, and she was always immediately responsive and available to me (and, amazingly, still continues to be that responsive currently, well beyond my postpartum period, whenever I have questions about breastfeeding, babywearing, sleep, etc.) We were hoping to have a natural birth using a birthing center but encountered last-minute complications that risked us out of the birthing center. I am certain that it was Megan's presence that allowed us to still have the natural birth we were hoping for in the hospital. I was so happy to see her when she arrived, and her presence helped me feel more secure and confident about approaching the birthing process as I was. Her help ranged from constant tailbone massage (for hours!), to helping me stay focused, to offering ideas for breathing and vocalizing, to translating things that the doctor said into much more understandable (and less scary!) language for us, to helping me move about the room unencumbered by cords, monitors, etc. I think back on the birth of my daughter as the peak experience of my life, and I think that Megan's help was essential to it unfolding as joyfully and naturally as it did.

  • Re: DOULA ADVICE-- Let us have it!

I want to wholeheartedly second Megan Davidson! She is awesome: smart, calm, kind, funny, experienced, available. My husband and I often talk about how "worth it" it was so hire her. After the birth, when we got differing opinions from pretty much everyone about pretty much everything, Megan was consistently supportive, trustworthy, wise and solid. There are a range of doulas out there and I think it's really important to make a good connection. We both felt viscerally like she was the best fit for us and have no regrets!

  • Birth Survey 2012

Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Megan was the best champion for my family. We had several unexpected complications with my delivery and recovery, which Megan helped us to manage in a calm, supportive and educated manner. She made sure I never felt alone or scared, and she helped make the best of a pretty awful situation. She went above and beyond in her follow-up care, making additional home visits and recommendations. Six months later, I still text her often and look forward to her suggestions. INSURANCE ISSUES: My insurance did not cover the use of a doula, so I did not discuss this with her.
  • Birth Survey 2012

Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Megan was wonderful throughout my labor and delivery. She arrived well before necessary-my husband and I were first timers and were very excited when my contractions got to 311 so we called her and she came. She stayed with us the entire 11 hours of labor and about 5 hours after delivery, cleaning up, dressing our baby, bringing us food. She came back two days later and helped me with lying down breast feeding (best thing ever!) and showed us how to use both of our baby carriers. We also just chatted about parenthood. It was so nice. When we were first considering a home birth and hiring a Doula, my husband was a bit skeptical. He thought Megan was expensive, but liked her and saw the benefit. After our daughter was born, he kept remarking that Megan could charge double and it would still be a steal, she was priceless. INSURANCE ISSUES: She can't bill insurance, but she wrote us an invoice and letter for us to try to get reimbursed. Jury is still out on that one

Our doula Megan Davidson attended the birth of our daughter and we were lucky to have her. She found a new provider when we were risked out of our midwifery practice at 36 weeks. She was calm and steady even when things did not go according to plan and responsive when we had questions or concerns. She is intelligent, highly experienced, and an overall fantastic person to have at your birth regardless of what choices you make or situations you encounter. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
