Brooklyn Schoolhouse

Description

THE SCHOOL:
Brooklyn Schoolhouse
An independent preschool in Clinton Hill

Brooklyn Schoolhouse is founded on the conviction that children have an innate desire to explore, play, and learn. We believe children learn best in a diverse community where their ideas and questions are respected and where children are guided through the process of building meaningful understandings.

THE PROGRAM:
Multi-Age Pre-K, Full Day Program
Monday-Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm, and Friday 9:00am-12:00pm
For children who are two to five years old at the start of the school year

The Multiage Class at Brooklyn Schoolhouse is a rich environment for learning through play and experience. The variety of learning styles and perspectives children bring to a multi-age group fosters family-like, caring characteristics between children as they enrich each other's learning.

We practice emergent curriculum; new studies emerge from the children's interests and play each year. Teachers infuse the curricula with the academic concepts children need to be familiar with before Kindergarten. Younger children have the opportunity to be exposed to these concepts and learn higher-level cognitive and social skills by observing and learning from older children. Older children have the opportunity to help teach the concepts that they are mastering.

The second half of the day is dedicated to our Nature School curriculum. Nature-based education promotes the positive development of the whole child. In our work, we cover topics ranging from composting and recycling to basic botany to geology, all with the goal of inspiring a love of and connection to the natural world.

A core value of the full-day program is to create a safe, warm and nurturing community. Children will have opportunities to organically reflect on their play, practice early literacy skills, and develop their language. Above all, we want each child to feel nourished by the relationships they develop with their teachers, their peers, and their environment.

    Review: This is a small intimate school where my 2 year old son is thriving. Staff is high caliper. Community is tight knit with excellent vibes. Strong communication, without excessive daily updates which is more our style (we want staff focused on care, not photos and texts to parents). Thoughtful activities and program pulling the best concepts from various educational philosophies.; Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours;

    Location: Clinton Hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 2.5 and 4.5 Review: Great camp, allowed both my kids to be in the same classroom. They were helpful with my youngest; camp was his first experience with drop-off class. They made it easy and comfortable.
