REVIEW: This program is extraordinary. Young people work one on one to learn an instrument of their choice for 40 mins a week as well as compose original work and perform publicly. A big point of the program is not only developing a way to express yourself creatively but to play as part of a large collaboration with peers and adults. I’ve worked in youth development for 25 years and this is one of the most authentic youth centered programs I’ve ever encountered. The program was conceived by Roy Nathanson who is a legendary sax player and composer as well as a professor at Gallatin school of music (NYU). The program is free. All Parents volunteer heavily and those with financial means or connections are central to fundraising efforts with private donors and foundations. It’s a family affair. This program is always on the lookout for a winter home. Age of child: 13
