Location: Cobble Hill REVIEW: This camp was wonderful! It was terrifically well organized from registration to the daily drop off to updates; each classroom had a skilled teacher plus some counselors; they offered a fine balance of Montessori-style "works" and outdoor activities with plenty of rooftop play time. The class's theme was "the city around us" and they went on scavenger hunts in the neighborhood, took inventories of what is around them, drew maps, and painted pictures of the built environment. Our daughter looked forward to returning each day and she especially loved the rooftop playground. Communication with parents was TOPS (really impressive), including the frequent photos that gave us such good insights into how the kids spent their days. And the director of this camp, Michele, is really TOPS -- what a dedicated, thoughtful, approachable educator. I wouldn't hesitate to give this camp my very highest recommendation for the preschool set. (My older child attended one summer a few years back and it has only improved under the gifted Michele.) CHANGES: Nothing. I look forward to sending her again next year DETAILS: Age of child; 4 … Weeks attended: 4Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (185 Court Street) How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 4 Review: Very play oriented compared to school year. Kids do a lot of crafts and my son came out smiling every day. They have daily specials such as music, spanish, yoga, and gym. My son looked forward to each day. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Kids in different classes couldn't mix and visit each other, so my son never got to see his friends assigned to a different classroom.Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Cobble hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5 Review: I loved it bc my child came home calm and learned to speak in a calm and collected manner Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? They follow CDC guidelines and are very transparent if there was a case etcReview from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Cobble hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 3 Review: This was a fabulous option for my 3 year old! we thought the program was very well administered with frequent parent communication and a very impressive director who greeted each family at arrival and knew all the kids by name. Our daughter loved the Montessori classroom and the array of “works” (educational toys). There were many art opportunities and outdoor play on the roof and Friday water play. For this age the camp was great.Iso: feedback on ymca summer camp
The Brooklyn Heights Montessori day camp was terrific when my kids were really little.Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Bergen and Court in Cobble Hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 3 Review: My son attended the half day program. It is 5 days a week in 2 week increments. He went for all 6 weeks and had a blast. He came out with a huge smile on his face every day. He talked about the other kids and teachers daily. I could tell he was engaged and enjoying himself. Best of all, they share tons of photos at the end of each session. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing. It was great and I'd love to send my son back next year. Would you like to add anything related to COVID and how the camp handled it? An at home test was required before the start of each session. Masking was optional indoors for students, but teachers were masked and most students appeared to mask.Review from the 2022 Summer Camp Survey
Location: Cobble Hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 4 almost 5 Review: This was a great smaller program that my son going into K really flourished in. He learned so much but also has a lot of fun. He attended 5/6 weeks. 9-3pm. He made really nice friends and loved going to camp every day. The communication was very good from the director also.Review from the 2021 Summer Camp Survey
Name of camp: Brooklyn Heights Montessori School Location: Cobble Hill How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 3 Review: Our child came home happy every afternoon after a day filled with sprinkler/roof time, theater, yoga, Montessori works. The class size was small and the other families seemed very pleasant. The dates also worked well for our needs. The teachers — from the little I was able to discern since we couldn’t go inside or really engage much outside and received no progress reports — were also quite skilled. Everyone seemed friendly. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? The program could benefit from greater organization/communication with parents. Compared to our preschool it struck me this school isn’t well organized. They hardly communicated with parents including in the lead up to school when very little info was provided and info provided was unclear. Other than a couple of sets of photos that were sent with glitches every time we didn’t receive any updates.Summer program advice
We sent our daughter to Brooklyn Heights Montessori from ages 3-9 (now 11) and she loved it. If you are near the F it’s a very quick commute.2018 Summer Camp Reviews
Comment: BHMS started a new program this summer for 3-3.5 - it is just 3 hours long, and suited my twin girls perfectly. Counselors were superb, experienced with the age, and there were lots of "extra" projects and specials - tie dye shirts, a menagerie visit. Roof playspace was a big plus. It is expensive for just 3 hours, and if my older daughter were not also at the same camp, I might not have considered it.Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey
Organized, pleasant, tons of stuff to do. He liked all the activities and teachers so much. Will probably do it again next year. Age of child: 4.5 Based on a Summer 2017 experienceReview from 2015 Summer Camp Survey
Age of Child: 6 Likes: Frequent field trips and park excursions, twice weekly swim, but a safe, dry, creativity-rich home base What would you change? Pickup in Park Slope would be AWESOME! Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommendReview Submitted via 2014-2015 Daycare/Preschool Survey
Program: Preschool (4s program) Length of time: 5 half-days Child’s Age: 3-4 years Type of facility: Privately run daycare/preschool with multiple classes and teachersThere is little/no parental involvement with the administration or running of the facility. REVIEW: Administrative is super supportive and addresses parent concerns exceptionally well. Teachers are loving, kind, and have well formulated plans to help even the youngest students achieve important goals. Facility is beautiful and the montessori classrooms are not cramped but open, airy, and inspiring. Community involvement is enormous and conferences are very detailed to discuss children's progress. Daily movement activities, dedicated music, yoga, and other teachers are excellent. (And this is just the preschool!) Pricey but worth the cost. Dislike that there is no extended day option for the 3 year olds in the mixed age montessori classrooms. Would you recommend? Highly recommend Would you send your child again? AbsolutelyReview from 2013 Summer Camp Experience
Age of Child: 4 Likes: She loved the different classroom activities and twice-weekly swimming lessons at the nearby Dodge YMCA! What would you change? I sometimes felt that the junior counselors weren't thoroughly supervised enough and were allowed to make too many independent decisions regarding children and activities. Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? The early dropoff and late aftercare make this program superb. All day camps have junior counselors with longer or shorter leashes; be sure to ask ANY camp about movies, snacks, or other concerns you might want your kid to *not* be exposed to (even if you think it outlandish!)Review from 2013 Summer Camp Experience
