Description
Boober is a Park Slope-based platform where expectant parents and new families find classes (childbirth, infant cpr, lactation, etc) and get connected to expert care providers like Birth Doulas, Postpartum Doulas, lactation consultants, mental health experts, and more to help people thrive through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Boober was founded by Jada Shapiro, local Park Slope Parent herself who also founded Birth Day Presence (birthworker training center), in 2002.

What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: Boober casses were decent! We paid for the bundle and took a few of them to make us feel more at ease before our due date.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
Childbirth Instructor: Boober What month and year was your child born? January 2023 Review: pretty good but wish they got into more of the newborn care or feeding needs, encouraging or suggesting next stepsReview from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
Childbirth Instructor: Boober What month and year was your child born? Feb 2023 Review: It was fine.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? April 2023 Review: The intro to childbirth class (in-person) was good, but there was a lot to fit in in 3 hours. I would have preferred something more interactive and maybe with multiple sessions.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
Childbirth Instructor: Boober What month and year was your child born? November 2022 Review: It was very informative and I'm so glad we did this. I liked that the class size was small so you felt more comfortable asking questions. It was information-packed and the instructor was dynamic. I felt like the instructor was a bit biased against the traditional western medical approach to childbirth though.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
Lactation Consultant: Katherine Michael - through Boober What month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: An ABSOLUTE LIFESAVER. Exclusively breastfeeding twins is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done and I could not have done it without Katherine. She has an MD, is a certified lactation consultant and a mom of 3. I can’t say enough about what a remendona resource she is.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? 06/22 Review: It provided a good overview. We did an in-person class and it was good to have hands-on practice with diaper changing and swaddling.Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? March 2023 Review: The instructor at boober CPR (in person) in park slope was fantastic! He was funny and kept it interesting. Highly recommend.birthing classes
We took the birth class at Boober in person last week and really liked it!Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey
Childbirth Instructor: Boober What month and year was your child born? June 2022 Review: Redundant to prenatal education done with doula but nice to participate in-person with other prospective parentsrecs for a reassuring, nonjudgmental lactation consultant
I used Boober for virtual lactation consulting, and really found it helpful and reassuring. It was easiest when my husband could hold the camera though. Scheduling was easy (I did it at 7pm after a hard feed for 7am the next day). They also made it easy to submit to insurance for reimbursement. Pretty sure they are Brooklyn-based and have in person options here.Review from the Fall 2021 Early Childhood Education Survey
We chose this class because it was one of the few in-person offerings. It was thorough and a good chance for us to hear things together as a couple and talk through, although most of it felt like a review of what I'd read in various books to prep already.Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey
Useful but not enough time spent on c-sectionReview from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Someone from Boober when I got home who actually supported mixed feeding and was wonderful. Hospital had weird obsession with making me pump and I needed to rest - I hated it and thought it was patronizing (my child was in the Nicu but I was able to breastfeed her whenever I wished).Lactation consultant
I also had a LC come in person a few days after I got home from the hospital to help with latching issues and painful nursing due primarily to tongue tie. I found her through Boober and she outlined her COVID policies very thoroughly (she drove to us, wore mask and gloves, asked that any surface she would need be sanitized, windows were open the whole visit, etc). It is of course not risk free to have someone in your home but I weighed it against the benefit of having hands-on help and resolving my pain. I knew I wouldn’t get as much value out of doing a virtual session (at least initially). It helped immensely having someone come into our space and work with me. Since then we’ve been in touch via text and are doing a follow up next week.Doula
You may also want to get multiple referrals via Boober, https://getboober.com/, as they offer a selection of doulas with a variety of experience and corresponding rates.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Boober was extremely easy to work with and responded very quickly to our inquiry. Their consultants are out of network and provide paperwork to request reimbursement through insurance.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Great platform for getting in home help quickly!Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
All of Boober’s classes are excellent.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Boober made it super easy for me to setup an in-home appointment within a couple of days. The initial advice and reassurance I received when I called up for a match was so helpful and calming.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Boober - multi week class - I think it was good for my husband but it was too many weeks for me. It felt like it dragged on. Nevertheless the information was well presented and having gone through the birth experience I didn’t feel like there were any surprises.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
We did the full day [birthing] class and it was more than enough. Good instruction and felt like we understood what to expect.Virtual Lactation Consult?
I went to getboober.com, and they matched me with Julie Rosen. She was able to see me very quickly, and our session was super helpful. Their consultants are out of network, but they provide a superbill to submit to insurance for reimbursement.Lactation consultant
I reached out to Boober at 9pm on Saturday and got a text from them at 8am Sunday. Zoomed with her a few hrs after that. All virtual but still effective and im very happy with my LC. She provided me with a receipt to submit to insurancePostpartum therapist needed
hi anonymous, Two suggestions: https://www.themotherhoodcenter.com/ Incredible, specific help for the postpartum period with really a really wonderful staff Also https://getboober.com/mental-health-support/ They are incredible about linking people with support specifically in the postpartum space. Not sure about individual insurance plans For either but both are incredible places with really great therapists. It’s a very difficult time under the best circumstances and I can only imagine how much more difficult it is right now. Thinking about you and my heart goes out to you.Virtual lactation consultant?
i highly recommend Jada Shapiro of Birthday Presence and her lactation support company called Boober. I believe she’s always been able to do virtual support, so she should be able to do this still. I got breastfeeding help in the early days with both my kids. It’s hard getting started, but so worth it.Lactation consultant
Ditto to Boober, Aetna, and Julia! (December 2019)Lactation Consultant for Park Slope
We also used company Boober (getboober.com) and got Cori Pleune. She was indeed amazing. She brought her own scale and weighed our baby before and after feeding to get a measure of how much baby was taking in. She helped with latching, feeding pain, positions, milk supply, and weaning off formula supplements. Our 3 week old is now only on the breast and passed birthweight!Lactation Consultant for Park Slope
I recently used the company Boober (getboober.com) and was able to get a lactation consultant same day. We were matched with Cori Pleune who was wonderful.Lactation consultant
I used boober. $395 for 2-3 hour in home assessment evaluation and hands in help. You’ll get a superbill which you can submit to insurance for reimbursement. Boober gives you helpful language to use to advocate with insurance companies. I was matched with grace who has been great and I’ve had a lot of text/ email/ phone follow up. She also helped re-think and re-frame a lot of my concerns which lessened my anxiety. Don’t wait to get help. Reach out to someone. Follow your instincts.Lactation Consultant (Twins)
I had a great experience with boober - they work with you to find the right consultant and also offer immediate text and phone support.[June2017babies] Lactation Consultant Recommendation
We were happy with GetBoober.com - on demand / same day service, the service was founded by Birth Day Presence which is also great. Also there is a lactation consultant with office hours at our pediatrician's office (Premier Pediatrics) which is really wonderful, you might try checking if your pediatrician offers something like this (can be covered by insurance).
