- Review from the 2025 Birthing SurveyBeth is so wonderful. She is gentle, calm, patient - she brings such a wonderful energy with her. She kept us calm and focused during the birth. She was present but not in our faces and jumped in when needed but did not over-insert herself into our time. She has lots of great wisdom and tricks and we felt so loved and cared for.
- Doula recommendations? We used Beth Scheppke and can't recommend her enough. A plus for us was that she was at the birth and available for postpartum support as well. Having that continuity of care and touchpoint with someone who was present at the birth during the postpartum period was really wonderful. She was always available by text, and could come over on short notice. Good luck!
- Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing SurveyWhat month and year was your child born? July 2022 Review: Beth was the singular bright spot in my terrible birth experience. She supported me physically and emotionally and protected me from some of the mistreatment of the nursing staff around me. She held space for me in processing my birth trauma after the experience and has become a friend. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? I highly recommend getting a doula. Beth gave my husband a breather during a very long labor, and I felt taken care of throughout my pregnancy.
- Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing SurveyBeth was a miracle. She was also our birth doula, and having continuity of care postpartum was really important for us. She helped with feeding issues, taught us to babywear, and gave us a break when we needed a rest, but most importantly she was an above-and-beyond on-demand source of support in early postpartum days when there isn't really anyone else that's dedicated to helping YOU with minute questions like "does this look like a wet diaper?" or "is this noise normal?" She's loving, kind, calming, and makes it a point to be there for parents. Any advice for people considering hiring a postpartum caregiver? We thought our postpartum doula was going to be helpful for creating space for us to nap, or helping us with household tasks. And she was, but really I think the most important part of having a postpartum doula for us was on-demand support, for little things, at odd hours. We could text her anytime we had a tiny question that wasn't suited for midwives or pediatricians, and knew we'd get a response ASAP. If we were having a tough day, we could call her and knew that she'd show up in a few hours to help us solve the problem du jour (or at least talk us down). There's a huge gap in postpartum support that we didn't know to anticipate, even with the best midwives or OBs, and our postpartum doula really helped to fill it.
- Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing SurveyWhat month and year was your child born? September 2022 Review: Beth was a miracle. She helped with pre-birth education, supported me during a long labor and delivery experience, and perhaps most helpfully was a continuing point of care during a vulnerable postpartum period. We had a lot of feeding issues, and Beth's calming presence was nurturing and helpful to our whole family. We'd recommend her in a second. Any advice for people who are considering using a birth doula? Consider what kind of birth you're aiming for (there are many versions of a good birth!) If aiming to labor at home for as long as possible or to experiment with different pain coping strategies, a doula might be for you. I wound up with a 40+ hour labor and delivery experience, and even though I ultimately gave birth in a hospital with an epidural, our doula was an incredible source of support and advocacy for us. Perhaps most helpfully, she was also a postpartum doula, and we liked having that continuity of care.
- Review from the 2021 Birthing Experience SurveyI would not recommend this doula.
- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyBeth led us through great prenatal visits where she helped me to create a birth plan. She is caring and attentive and I felt very safe in planning to have an unmedicated hospital birth with her. When we discovered our baby was breech and we would have to have a c-section, she helped us alter our birth preferences to fit. Since she could not be in the hospital with us, she switched to more postpartum care and came to check on us and offer baby care advice. Unfortunately we did not get to work with her for the birth but would recommend her highly still!
