  • Black OBGYN - roundup (2021)

Dr. Bernadith Russell! She works out of Irving place office and delivers at NYP Lower Manhattan, so she’s easy to get to.
  • Black OBGYN

Would also recommend Dr. Bernadith Russell - she has her own practice and delivers for almost all her patients. Extremely caring, patient, and knowledgable.
  • Review from the 2021 Birthing Experience Survey

Bernadith Russell is an amazing OB-GYN. She delivered all 3 of my kids (born in 2015, 2017, and 2020). Each time, she made me feel seen, heard, and cared for, reflected the latest research and data in her practice, and brought her many years of experience and wisdom to my care and my baby's care. Especially during the most intense parts of the labor, she guided me through and supported me. My doula, who has experienced hundreds of births, described Dr. Russell like "a high priestess who honors the mother and the baby." Her office is not the most efficient well run office, but the receptionist and nurse are both helpful and warm. I feel incredibly grateful that Dr. Russell delivered all 3 of my kids (the last during the pandemic no less), and hope to continue to be her patient for many years to come. (April 2021)
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr. Russel has been my gyno for many years. She's seen me through relationship breakups and starts, being single, moving in with and eventually marrying my husband. I've always been struck by the time she took with me when generally I'd only see her for my annual. We'd sit in her office first, chat for awhile about life, and I always felt I was catching up with a friend. She is open, but direct. I know I am so lucky to have had a relationship with her for so long before getting pregnant. Once pregnant I got to see Dr. Russell more frequently, and in a new light. She is not overly sentimental, and while I wished some appts were longer, she always made me feel comfortable and confident and safe by the time I left. During my labor and delivery, Dr. Russell was all business. Not getting into too much detail, she truly became the amazing professional we needed, taking the reins, and while it felt all business at some points, she was so laser focused on keeping me and the baby safe and healthy through a long labor (34hrs), when my blood pressure was spiking. I know with other doctors, I would have had a C-section at a certain point. I am so thankful to Dr. Russel for the way she handled everything - keeping us informed but not over complicating the process for us when we were in such an emotional state and I was in such pain. In the end, I delivered a healthy 10lb2oz baby girl vaginally, with "just a few pushes". I trust her completely. It was also amazing seeing her in her element, at the hospital, clearly adored and respected by the nurses, and other staff. She is just a good person and an incredible doctor, and I still think about how lucky I've been to have her. (November 2020)
  • Need OB recs

I highly recommend Dr. Bernadith Russell who is a WOC and practices at Downtown. However her office is in Manhattan so may not fit the bill. She is very progressive and open to people who use different positions in labor or who don't prefer medications. (June 2020)
  • Need OB recs

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bernadith Russell. She cared for me before, during, and after the birth of our 4th child in 2011. She was totally amazing as an ob/gyn and in providing excellent postpartum and gyn care. She listened and truly heard all of my concerns. I had very quick 2nd and 3rd deliveries (both almost occurred in the car) so she was great about getting to the hospital as soon as my water broke at home. She and I both arrived to the hospital at 5am -- my labor stalled, and she remained onsite at the hospital (on Memorial Day) with me all day until my baby was born at 5:22pm. She was very supportive of my preference for a non-medicated birth and really helped make it possible. Every decision with her was truly a joint decision between me and her after we discussed options and pros/cons. She is a wonderful human being and physician. I very highly recommend her. (June 2020)
  • ObGyn who uses ultrasound at checkups

Bernadith Russell is my OBGYN and has ultrasound. I highly recommend her. (October 2019)
  • OBGYN Recommendations?

We used Dr. Bernadith Russell for our son born in early November. My wife was very pleased with her and her care. We used NYP Downtown and had a small room and got into a private room on the second day. Scheduled section for a Friday morning and we went home by noon on Sunday. (January 2019)
  • [Summer2017Babies] OBGYN

I can't recommend Dr. Bernadith Russell enough. She is located on the corner of 6th ave and 12th street in Manhattan. She is a single practice and delivers at NYP lower manhattan. Her practice is busy, but she dedicates time to you with each visit and truly cares. She's extremely thorough and kind and i wholeheartedly trust her. She was also my gyno before getting pregnant. Because it's a single practice, she basically guarantees that she will deliver your child. I found this really comforting, as we developed a nice rapport and I was relieved to know it would be her delivering my baby. Additionally, she was incredible during my delivery. I did have to wait some days, but she definitely prioritizes pregnant patients over non-pregnant. She's a lovely person and I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as my OB. I like want her as a life coach as well ha! Oh and one other thing - she is the only medical doctor that delivers in the birthing room at NYP loma. I believe the only other patients that have the option to deliver there are part of the midwife practice, but I could be mistaken. This was huge for me. She's also pretty open and liberal - encouraged having a doula, etc. I love her, if you can't tell :) (February 2018)
  • Review submitted via the Park Slope Parents 2017 Birth Survey

Dr. Russell is great, and very supportive of natural births. She is a great doctor for anyone who wants to try to have a natural birth in a traditional hospital setting with an OB. Based on a October 2017 birthing experience.
  • Review from the 2017 Birth Survey

  • [PSPTwins] Obgyn recommendation?

I'm not certain which insurances she takes, but my OB was absolutely amazing. She is also a mother of twins, which really helped me during my twin pregnancy! (July 2017)
  • Re: [PSP] colposcopy advice

I second Bernadith Russel. She is amazing.
  • Re: [PSP] colposcopy advice

I'm sorry you had abnormal results - that can be very scary. I highly recommend Bernadith Russell, who is my GYN. She is thorough, gentle and just wonderful all around. I've had to have various tests done by her, and she has always helped me through them with compassion and expertise. Would you believe she's so skilled I didn't even realize she had done my PAP the last time? I was steeliing myself for it and then she told me she had already done it - she's that good.
  • Re: [ANONYMOUS] ISO local ob/gyn practice for cervical polyp removal

I have two great ob/gyns within an easy commute: Downtown Bklyn - Thomasena Ellison Downtown Manhattan - Bernadith Russell Each helped me deliver a baby!
  • Re: [PSP] Looking for a hopefully an above average OBGYN.

I can also highly recommend Bernadith Russell. She's warm, caring, no-nonsense, and pretty much the best doctor of any kind that I've ever had
  • Re: [PSP] Looking for a hopefully an above average OBGYN.

Bernadeth Russell is a super bright, thoughtful obgyn. Of all the ob's i have had, she is a keeper. A true women's doc. and a real person. She has her own practice on 12th st. in Manhattan.
