Birthing Class
With my first, I LOVED the weekend intensive birth class taught by Lena DeGloma (held at Bend and Bloom Yoga). It looks like her March class is full, but if anyone is looking for a class on the later side (looks like the next is May 4 weekend), I would highly recommend it. https://www.bendandbloom.com/childbirth-workshops2018 Birth Survey
The prenatal yoga classes at Bend and Bloom: Everyone raves about Lara Kohn Thompson, with good reason, but I had wonderful experiences with all of the prenatal yoga instructors at B&B. Highly recommended for all expecting moms, and you can book via ClassPass.[March2018Babies] Birthing Classes
We just took a 3-day weekend intensive birthing class at Bend and Bloom Yoga Studio with Lena DeGloma of Red Moon Wellness and it was fantastic, can't recommend her enough. She does them monthly, so check out the Bend and Bloom website (they're on Sackett off 5th Ave) for the Feb date!Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey
Bend & Bloom, Yoga for Birth, a workshop for couples This 3-hour course was just what we needed. Some childbirth education, some strategies for pain management, some tips for postpartum care, some managing of expectations. The teacher and her assistant were both awesome. Highly recommend! Ashley Brichter at Bend and Bloom Super recomended, loved her... Based on a 10/2017 birthing experience.Review submitted via the PSP Birth Survey
We knew going in our weekend intensive had a rep for intense - that reputation held up. With the whole birth experience behind me, I think it made things scarier then the needed to be on the whole, though I cannot deny that it was more then adequate and thorough as en educational / pedantic experience. I left unrealistically afraid of / nervous about an epidural, and generally much more spooked and primed for hostile resistance at the hospital then was needed. I guess it was good to be prepared to push hard to made them do the various delayed clamping, non-washing, low-intervention style stuff we also wanted, but ultimately unnecessary, as our experience at Methodist was that all this was the expected default. I was glad to know I should ask for it, seemed incongruent how much we focus on potentially fighting about it. This was not a soft class. Review: I found the class at bend and bloom to be very much geared towards people who wanted to give birth without the use of pain medication, with a doula, in a birthing center. Because I did not fit that I did not love the class. That's just me. There was not a lot of talk about prepping for an epidural or discussion about what being induced is like. That would have been helpful because I had to be induced for medical reasons (too much amniotic fluid). Overall, I found that there is not much that can prepare you for labor from one class in terms of exercises. More information about different types of birthing situations- being induced, choosing to have an epidural, having a c section would have been helpful. Instead the class was very much geared towards coping with natural childbirth. Which is great but many people do not get to do that, either by choice or for medical reasons. I found that having practiced yoga for many years, i intuitively did breathing that helped me cope with the pain. But I didn't use what was learned in the class because I didn't feel I learned all that much. Member notes about insurance: No insurance taken at bend and bloom as far as I know. Type: Child birth class Review: The class was really good at giving both myself and my husband different tools for dealing with labor. It saved me the trouble of trying to articulate to my spouse during the delivery what it was that I needed. It armed him with tools that he could use. I recommend the class Insurance: This was not covered by insurance Based on a 2015 birthRe: Birthing class recommendatio
We had a fantastic experience at Bend & Bloom on Sackett Street. It was a little more expensive than some of the other options my midwife provided, but it was absolutely worth it. Plus, it comes with a newborn care & breast feeding class at the end. I've also heard good things about Birth Day Presence. There are definitely good options locally, so you shouldn't have to go into Manhattan if you don't want to. Good luck!OT favorite yoga studio?
Bend and Bloom!!! Amazing studio, have been going for years. They have a referral thing going on now where new students can get a free week of unlimited yoga if they start by January 5. They have very gifted instructors for all level of practice. I highly recommend them!(no subject)
I attend the prenatal classes regularly at Bend and Bloom. I have enjoyed all the instructors I have tried- however, I can definitely recommend Beth and Lara's classes. They are gentle and informative. Bend and Bloom is on Sackett between fourth and fifth. (March 2012)Birth Survey 2012
Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Lara Thompson teaches prenatal and postnatal yoga at Bend and Bloom and Kula yoga (she also has a private studio in the area). Her classes are a wonderful oasis for women in the pregnancy and postpartum period. Her calm energy, gentle wit and deep knowledge of anatomy, in particular of the pelvic floor, make her an incredible support and help on both sides of the birth process. I took both her prenatal and postnatal classes this year, and each class made me a happier mama to be and mama. She takes a personal interest in her students and their babies, and she was a huge part of making my transition to motherhood a positive one.Birth Survey 2012
Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Loved prenatal yoga here, and took childbirth classes. Also met Lara Kohn-Thompson, who came to my home after the baby was born to do some work on recovering from the birth and regaining core strength, etc. INSURANCE ISSUES: No.Birth Survey 2012
Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Wonderful prenatal and postnatal yoga. Great advice and support, and a chance to check in and see that all the weird things going on at each stage of pregnancy and early motherhood are shared by others! Lara and Beth are wonderful yogis and wise, informed experts in the crazy stuff that happens to our bodies during this time. INSURANCE ISSUES: NOBirth Survey 2012
Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Prenatal yoga at Bend and Bloom helped me feel more relaxed, confident, and strong during each stage of my pregnancy right up to the day I went into labor.Birth Survey 2012
Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: We love Beth!! She was incredibly diplomatic, knowledgable and kind. She is genuinely passionate about birth and babies; I felt that she really honored the transition that was taking place in our lives. But class was also lighthearted and fun. Review Date: April 2012 REVIEW: Although the intention was good, I learned very little in this class that was useful in childbirth. INSURANCE ISSUES: N/A(no subject)
We took a childcare and breastfeeding class at Bend and Bloom on Sackett street. They do the whole childbirth series as well. We were really happy with the one class we took, although breast feeding is really easier to learn when there is an actual baby. (Recommended 3/10)(no subject)
