  • 2019 Summer Camp Review

Age: 5 Review: This is a no-frills mostly on-location sports camp. On the plus side, it's informal and pretty straightforward and runs all summer (plus inexpensive). Kids aren't spending time on buses. They show up in the morning and hang out and run around a large gym. My daughter did both the theater camp and the sports camp. She's really liked it and apparently especially enjoyed playing soccer and performing in the musical. What would you change? It's a cheap camp, and I think you get what you pay for. We probably won't go back next year. There are also hidden extras: cost of field trips and snacks. Probably it's fine for older kids, but not the best for younger ones.

Bay Ridge Sports camp does a winter camp that is FABULOUS!!! My son is a sports enthusiast and they do sports all day every day. They also have a pick up drop off service and after care for an additional price. They do a terrific job and are very reasonably priced.

My son went to this camp last summer on the recommendation of a colleague from work. Her son, who attends a private school with lots of wonderful amenities, loved this camp. She told me it's very no frills and her son who was accustomed to all sorts of frills, loved the camp. Well I looked on line and realized my new neighbor ran the camp. We had recently moved to Bay Ridge and I recognized Steve Carberry as Sandy's owner (Sandy is his spaniel) and our neighbor. Harry had gone to another camp and he was adamant he would not go back to that camp. I signed him up for Bay Ridge Sports camp, and he LOVED it! He was ready to leave most mornings before us. He came back each night with enthusiasm for all that he had done that day. He loved his counselors and he loved playing sports all day long. They did field trips to Bounce U which he loved. They also occasionally saw a movie at the Alpine and went to the ping pong billiards place in Bay Ridge. They also had free time at the park to eat lunch and play made up games. I think it's a terrific camp! Steve is our neighbor and aquaintance. We do not socialize and I would not consider him a friend but in the interest of full disclosure, I thought that fact should be known. I included the no frills comment from my friend because I think it's accurate. This camp is about sports and is for kids who love sports. They provide balls and games but it is old fashioned and not fancy. But the kids love it, and I think it is very well run. Harry is looking forward to attending over the winter break and I am happy to save my vacation days for the summer. He will also be attending this summer. (Recommended 1/10)
