Shout out to local biz - Ansonia Optical
I want to give a BIG shout out to Ansonia Optical in South Slope on 7th ave. It’s a locally owned store for many decades that gives amazing service and has great selection/products. Just yesterday, the owner John let me in 20 mins before official opening time to pick up my prescription reading glasses. Lucky me, bumping into him on the avenue on my way to work. This is the kind of store that makes Park Slope a wonderful neighborhood.Re: Ansonia Optical?
I go to Ansonia Optical for myself and my daughter and won't go anywhere else, if we can help it!Childrens' Glasses
John and his wife, Sonia, are great! You won't be disappointed with the service here! Happy shopping!Childrens' Glasses
We go to ansonia optical for our three year old and recommend them ("uncle John") absolutely. He is wonderful, a grandfather to 12 kids, and really knows his stuff. He is kind and accommodating and great with my daughter--she absolutely loves going there. Happy to answer any specific questions but I wouldn't look further than Ansonia.Childrens' Glasses
I love Ansonia Optical! It's an old-time mom and pop business run by John Semioli (and his wife), who is great at what he does and is a mensch. I first went there for my own glasses when I lived a few blocks away. I continue to go there for myself and my now-four-year-old even after we moved out of the immediate neighborhood because I want to continue to support this shop and I trust that I'm going to get a great level of service and high-quality glasses. Also, it's one of 2 Park Slope optical shops recommended by my daughter's ophthalmologist, and he noted after seeing her glasses (with extremely strong prescription) that the quality of the lenses was fantastic (super thin and accurate). Highly recommended!flexible kid's eyeglass frames in the hood?
You should go to Ansonia Optical on 7th Avenue and 10th Street. Local place run by a lovely husband/wife couple and it's been there for years. Our pediatric ophthalmologist we see in Manhattan recommended them and they were so lovely to deal with. And they carry the Miraflex glasses. Our daughter got her pair when she was 4... they're indestructible and totally worth the money. (Reviewed May 2015)Eyeglasses for Kids - Recommendations in PSlope?
I love John at Ansonia Optical. I have not had to buy children’s glasses there, but have bought my own there. He is very knowledgeable and I always feel like he is doing a good job and really knows what he is doing. He is great with kids as I have always had my children with me when he is there.Re: ISO: Trusted eyeglass shop to replace lenses
We Love, love, love John at Ansonia Optical on 7th Avenue, between 10th and 11th I believe, right beside Ansonia Pharmacy. He does a great job, is local, and is an old fashioned mom and pop type of service.Re: ISO: Trusted eyeglass shop to replace lenses
I second the recommendation for John at Ansonia Optical on 7th ave. I was just there today getting new nose pads for my glasses (which I bought from Ansonia Optical last year and am very happy with). John is a sweetheart. Although the original poster is not looking for new frames, John gave me great suggestions about frames and advice on the types of lenses to get. He was also extremely patient. Today he sent my toddler off with a toy handbag (a mini glasses case), which she promptly put her sunglasses in and has been toting around all day.(no subject)
We had a great experience at Ansonia on 7th. We went for our daughter but also ended up getiing glasses for ourselves. We got regular prescription glasses, but they seem to have a good selection of sunglasses too. prices were fair and our glasses seem perfect in terms of prescription and fit. I'd also check with Ansonia to see if they can make lenses for a frame that you've purchased online(no subject)
Jonathan at Ansonia Optical on 7th Ave btwn 10th & 11th has a great selection for kids and his customer service is beyond compare. He is also really good at helping you to pick out a nice pair for your child's face. (November 2011)(no subject)
I'll second that [in response to review posted right below]. A real mom & pops place. John will give you the most personal care, and take all the time you or your child needs. I got my progressives there and then took my son there. One caveat, though - don't go if you're in a hurry - he'll want to have a nice, leisurely conversation with you to find out how you are!!! Really lovely guy.(no subject)
Ansonia on 7th and 12th st. is fantastic. I get my glasses there and recently saw a parade of kids being fitted, very happily. He has a large selection and is a very good optician who will make sure the glasses are properly sized, etc. I just got Progressives there and was sure that I would have problems -- and they're perfect!(no subject)
Ansonia is great!! One of the few real old time type of Park Slope Stores with very personalized service from John. He remembers his customers and will give you any extra attention you may need. (March, 2010)(no subject)
Just want to chime in on ANSONIA OPTICAL. Besides nice kids glasses I have been getting my own glasses there for 20 years! John is an outstanding optician, will give the outmost care to your glasses and their fit, and you can walk in any time for an adjustment at no charge. This is one of the Park Slope businesses that makes this neighborhood so great. (March, 2010)
