  • Review from the Summer 2022 Birthing Survey

What month and year was your child born? 04/2022 Review: I switched to Dr. Rhee’s practice about halfway through my pregnancy, as I was looking for a practice that was known to be more friendly to unmedicated births and different coping mechanisms. I liked that she has a midwife on staff and was enthusiastic about a ‘birth center style’ birth in the hospital setting. My experience with Dr. Rhee was largely positive, although there are a couple of things I think worth calling out for anyone considering her as their OB. Firstly, she talks and moves quickly and doesn’t always take the time to pause and address anxieties. I felt like I needed to have questions ready to go and not much time to write down the answers before she’d be out the door. Also, starting my third trimester I had gained about 20lbs and had one appointment I felt was not well handled. She was clear that the weight gain was not an issue for me yet, but proceeded to ask about what I was eating and after a few foods listed identify what ‘must be the problem’. The interaction felt pushy and didn’t take into account that I was totally fine with my own weight gain at that point. And from a practical standpoint, because the phone number I had to call routes through Mount Sinai West’s system, when I went into labor it took about 20 minutes to get ahold of her (incl. one dropped call through the automated system, speaking with an admin, receiving a call back from her). With a very fast labor the Mount Sinai system was stressful to deal with. In the end, I think there are a lot of people for whom Dr. Rhee would be a great fit for, and on the whole I did really like working with her. She provided a lot more information up front than the practice I started my pregnancy with and is more known for the type of birth I had in mind (and was supportive as everything changed at the last minute anyway). If you’re looking for a softer bedside manner or weight is a triggering issue for you, then she may not be the right provider.
  • Review from the Spring 2022 Birthing Survey

Dr. Rhee was my OB until labor and delivery, when Dr. Shulina was on call. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy and vaginal birth at Mount Sinai West. Dr. Rhee might be described as no-nonsense and a bit old school. She is direct, non-alarmist, and will respect your decision to keep your process low-intervention (if safe). Dr. Rhee monitored my hypothryoidism and anemia effectively. After I hit 40 weeks, she asked me if I would like to schedule an induction (didn't end up needing it) and wasn't pushy about it. She provides just enough information, but may not be suitable for someone who is highly anxious during the pregnancy. I met Dr. Shulina at a regular check-in to become familiar with her, in the event that she was on call when I went into labor; I appreciated that I had the opportunity to meet her and ask questions in advance. I would describe Dr. Shulina as having a warmer personality than Dr. Rhee. Dr. Shulina respected my pain management decisions and supported my eventual choice to get an epidural. She was busy the day I delivered, but checked in frequently enough. When it came time to push, she gave helpful guidance that allowed me to push efficiently for just 20 minutes with minimal tearing. I also observed Dr. Shulina to give helpful guidance to the resident on service. Overall, I was pleased with my care and would recommend Dr. Rhee/Dr. Shulina to folks who are comfortable with a less-high-touch style. It may also be useful to know that both conduct cervical exams regularly in the last few weeks of the pregnancy.
  • Gynecologist only unicorn

Hi Angela--I highly recommend Amy Huang at Mt Sinai: https://www.mountsinai.org/profiles/amy-y-huang. She used to be an ob-gyn but now only does gyn.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

Dr Rhee is amazing. She really advocates for a natural birth and goes above and beyond to help you have that. She delivered my first child and it was a natural birth. My second child she was not on call, her partenr Dr Shulina was on call and she was also amazing. Both are very caring in the moment of giving birth and they will do anything to make sure you are taken care of. In terms of appointment, it can be a little rushed but that is because they are a busy practice. If you want someone that is going to give you hours every appointment then this is not the place. But if you want someone that you know has your best interest when giving birth, this is the place.

I loved Dr. Rhee! She’s not warm and fuzzy, but she’s smart and funny and incredibly good at what she does. I ended up with a c section after 19 hours because my baby wouldn’t turn & had heart rate issues and she was amazing. I felt so safe and confident in her hands. If you need a lot of TLC she’s probably not for you, but I adore her.
  • Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey

    She [Dr. Rhee] was great!
  • 2019 Birth Survey

She [Dr. Rhee] is one of 5 in the practice and probably my least favorite. She can be a bit short and cold, though I had total confidence in her knowledge and experience. She did not deliver my first child (the midwife in her practice did) but delivered my second via c-section. I do wish she had offered more advice regarding post-op care.
  • [Summer2017Babies] OBGYN

I had Dr. Rhee at the same practice and absolutely loved her, but when we did the rounds at the end and met all the doctors (in case they were on-call when I went into labor), Dr. Nabizadeh definitely left me wondering whether we should have been seeing HER all along. She was great!
  • Dr. Anna Rhee Review

Dr. Rhee delivered my baby, she was the doctor on call with my practice. Dr. Rhee is so great. She was upfront and honest about my birth which ended up being a last minute (but not emergency, so key!) c-section due to baby's positioning. Dr. Rhee tried so hard to deliver the baby vaginally but in the end it was just not happening. Dr. Rhee is super qualified and I felt like I was in great hands during the surgery and throughout the whole process with her. My birth was not straight forward and easy, and she helped me decide what I wanted to do at every step. Her advice was spot on and I should I have done what she advised from the minute I stepped into the hospital, but I really wanted a vaginal birth but it was just not working. Dr. Rhee delivered 11 babies during her days on call when I had my son and I was her only c-section. I believe it was the only way he was coming out safely (so did Dr. Rhee). I'm so happy with my entire journey at this practice. The subway ride to the UWS is worth it for a great birth experience and for caring doctors, all of them are really wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Rhee to anyone she has 30+ years of experience and is a great solid doctor. My dad (also a doctor) was so impressed by my scar (it's barely there). My appendix scar is way worse.
  • [April2017babies] OB/GYN or Midwife Recommendations

I've seen a couple of people who recommended Dr Shulina. I loved my OB from the same practice, Dr Rhee. I had twins and Dr Rhee is one of the few OBs who are willing to go for a vaginal twin birth. Also loved mount Sinai west!
  • [PSPTwins] Obgyn recommendation?

I loved my obgyn [Dr. Rhee]! She's very experienced with twins and will do everything to facilitate a vaginal birth if that is what you would prefer. I also ended up switching from another obgyn to her. The other three obgyns in her practice are wonderful as well. Dr. Nabizedeh was the obgyn on call for the birth. Had a bit of an emergency and I couldn't have felt safer and more supported. Several of my friends delivered with this practice as well. All the best with your pregnancy! Hope you find someone you trust.

She [Dr. Rhee] is no-nonsense and has a dry sense of humor, which may not be for everyone, but was perfect for me. She pegged me immediately as a worrier and insisted I stop Googling pregnancy symptoms; instead she told me two books I could reference and said to e-mail her if they didn't answer my questions. This proved invaluable for my peace of mind. Visits with her were short and did sometimes feel rushed, but I felt that the fact that they started on time and she was available by e-mail between appointments made up for this. She was a total rockstar at my birth, which did not go as planned. My doula, who has attended over 100 births (and several with Dr. Rhee), said that any other OB would have given me a C-section, but with Dr. Rhee's level-headedness and ingenuity I was able to deliver vaginally and gave birth to a perfect, healthy little boy. Based on 12/2017 birth experience

[Dr. Rhee was a] Highly skilled surgeon on call for my emergency c-section. In general, strong bedside manners and caring demeanor (with one exception, where during advanced labor I overheard her say something she probably shouldn't have said in front of a laboring woman in pain). Based on September 2016 birth experience
  • Review submitted via the 2016 Birth Survey

Dr. Rhee was knowledgable and thorough. She wasn't an alarmist which I appreciated however I also felt a bit rushed in appointments with her. She was my primary OB but I saw everyone in the practice at least once and she not who delivered my baby. I did really like the practice as a whole, even though they were located far (UWS). Based on May 2016 birthing experience

Member Review: Dr. Rhee is one of the handful of physicians who supports labor and birth in Mount Sinai-Roosevelt's Birthing Center, which is the main reason I switched to her practice. At 25 weeks, despite being deemed low-risk, other doctors delivering in the birthing center deemed me "too late" in pregnancy to take on as a patient. Dr. Rhee was happy to welcome me and support my wishes for a natural birth. This was my first pregnancy and Dr. Rhee patiently explained all the screenings, tests, and procedures that would happen from start to finish. My other physician made me feel like an observer to my own pregnancy but Dr. Rhee helped me feel like a participant in the entire process and answered questions I didn't even know I should have. Unfortunately, a natural birth was not possible for me because my baby was breech, but Dr. Rhee was helpful in suggesting homeopathic, alternative, and finally traditional medical interventions to help turn the baby. Dr. Rhee is very matter-of-fact which my husband and I found to be an invaluable asset. That said I could see how a more sensitive person might perceive this as brusque or insensitive. Overall my experience with Dr. Rhee was great and I would not hesitate in recommending her. Insurance details: Accepted my United Healthcare Choice Plus insurance. Office took care of all claims filing. Review based on birth of 2014 baby

Member Review: Dr. Rhee and her practice deliver at St. Luke's Roosevelt. The one with the Birthing Center in the hospital, which we wanted to use, and the reason why we sought her practice out. Dr. Rhee ensured that even if we didn't get to be in the birthing center proper, she would treat me as though I were in there. And when push came to shove, she actually did! I couldn't be happier with her addressing my concerns and informing me of my options surrounding my first birthing experience. Insurance details: Yes, and I had no need to intervene on any insurance matters what so ever. Review based on birth of 2014 baby
  • Review for Dr. Anna Rhee

Dr. Rhee was my OB/GYN throughout my first pregnancy and was on call the night I gave birth. She helped me through a long, painful, non-medicated delivery. Due to the position of the baby and my small pelvic anatomy, I had to push for four hours. Throughout the entire delivery, Dr. Rhee was extremely supportive and did everything she could to ensure that I gave birth vaginally. When I expressed doubt in my ability to keep going, Dr. Rhee gave me the encouragement and positive reinforcement that I needed to persevere. She stayed on for two hours after her shift ended, and, along with Dr. Roston, I was finally able to give birth to a healthy baby boy. She visited me two times during my stay at the hospital and was extremely warm and caring during her visits. I definitely plan on staying with Dr. Rhee for future births.

The offices are 86th and cpw but I've had great experiences with drs and reception with Dr. Anna Rhee and her practice. Any of the 5ish drs there are great September 2012

Dr. Amy Huang is my doctor and she's been great. She is at Columbus Circle anhas a practice with 3 other female doctors. http://www.nywomenshealth.com/general-ob-gyn-physicians-st-lukes-hospital-new-york.htm (December, 2010).

I second the recommendation of Dr Rhee's practice. We had Dr Huang and she was great. There are all women, which I liked very much. (December, 2010).

I went with Dr Anna Rhee's practice near Columbus Circle. There are 4 docs there and I liked them all. I really wanted a VBAC and they honoured my wishes, even though it was not an easy delivery (and much credit to doula Terry Richmond for that too). (December, 2010).
