Review from the Spring 2023 Birthing Survey
What month and year was your child born? October 2022 Review: Dr. Dobrenis is as good as it gets. Warm, real and deeply experienced. Appointments were as efficient or as time-consuming as I wanted, every time, depending on whether I had questions.Recommendations for great OB's delivering at NY Presbyterian /Weill Cornell
I highly recommend Dr Andrea Dobrenis and her practice. She is fantastically open minded and never took an opinion on how I wanted to handle my pregnancy. She was always supportive and provided the facts I needed. I can’t speak to a natural birth as I needed a c-section for medical reasons which I knew well ahead of time but I can say it was a very positive upbeat experience even in that environment.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Dr. Dobrenis has a great bedside manner and is very easy to talk to and highly experienced. Dr. Leonard her partner actually was on call the night we delivered, and he did a very good job given the circumstances of me testing positive for COVID. We chose this practice because of their experience and also because they are low on the intervention scale and respectful to our birth plan wishes. However, we felt confident that in the case of an emergency or some sort of issue, they would take control and make sure that both me and the baby were safe regardless of my birth plan. The one major issue we encountered with Dr. Dobrenis and the office in general, is that we were not able to communicate with her at all outside of office visits. Your options as a patient are either to speak to a nurse (and we had very mixed experiences with the nurses) or speak to the doctor on call. When I was 32 weeks pregnant and quite sick with COVID, I needed to speak to her directly as there were a lot of questions about what I actually had because we could not get a COVID test right away (this was back in March 2020), but I did not get a call from her for 10 days. You can imagine how incredibly stressful that was. Similarly, postpartum I had a potential issue and wanted to discuss with Dr. Dobrenis. I even asked to schedule either an in person or virtual visit, but was repeatedly rejected and sent to the nurses. Only after further insisting I speak with Dr. Dobrenis did she call back and confirm that the test the nurses were telling me to go get would have been completely unnecessary and what I was feeling was normal.Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience Survey
Dr Dobrenis is a wonderful, caring OB. Unfortunately her practice is TOO busy and you have to wait unless you get first morning or afternoon appt. But she is a fabulous doctor (I saw her for all three of my pregnancies.)HELLLOOOO??? Welcome May 2020 Families!
My husband and I are expecting our first this May as well. We went through ivf so very grateful to be at this stage! We did that with Weill Cornell and are staying with them for the pregnancy. Our doctor (Dr Dobrenis) is all the way on the upper east, but she is wonderful and came highly recommended. It is a group of 5 doctors so same situation where you don’t know who you will get on delivery day. They deliver at NYP Cornell on York and 68th. My friend recently delivered there and had a great experience. They are actually building a special labor and delvery and nicu across the street, which will be amazing, but it won’t be open until August so we will all miss it this time around.VBAC dr. at NY Pres/Weill Cornell
I had an emergency csection for my first birth at NYU, and wanted to do a Vbac so I did a ton of research and went to Dr Dobrenis at Cornell. She is INCREDIBLE. I didn’t end up having a vbac due to complications from my first delivery, but she is a vbac pro. I joke that I would have a third just to see her moreNeed OB referrals
I LOVE my doctor who is in the Weill Cornell network, but uptown. Her name is Dr Dobrenis.New OB recommendations
I love my doctor - Dr. Dobrenis. She's great all around (I can share so many stories and can go on and on but I'll just say.. she's the best!). There are 4 OBGYNs in her group - so one of the 4 will deliver your baby (vs. one of 10 at some other practices, which I liked). Dr. Hockstein (same office) is also equally amazing. I have about 5 other friends who had either Dobrenis or Hockstein, and they all love them. I also really liked the facility / experience at the NYP (upper east). I believe there will be a brand new building soon? I recall my doctor telling me that I can deliver my second baby (if there will be any) in the beautiful brand new building. :) I was initially quite concerned that the doctor's office / hospital is too far, but in the end, I went with the practice because of the doctor and the hospital. I'm happy with my choice and would like to highly recommend.[Fall2016babies] ISO OB or midwife recommendations
I LOVED Dr. Dobrenis at Weill Cornell UES. The other docs in the practice are great too and so I felt fine about fact that she wasn't on call when I delivered. Hospital was great too and NICU was terrific which is important if you should need it.[Fall2016babies] ISO OB or midwife recommendations
I second Dobrenis! Dr. Hockstein, one of the doctors in that group, delivered all three of my children. He is fantastic!!!!Review submitted by 2016 Birth Survey
Review: Dr. Dobrenis was our doctor, coach, cheerleader and friend throughout my pregnancy. I knew I wanted to give birth in a hospital with a doctor, but I did not want a doctor who was too quick to medicate or force unnecessary procedures. Dr. Dobrenis is pragmatic and practical. She is down-to-earth and personable. Most of all she is lighthearted and funny - she really put us to ease throughout the process, but never trivialized our questions or issues. I genuinely like her as a person, and I trusted her. I would work with her again in a heartbeat. Can't say enough positive things about her and her entire staff. Member notes about insurance: Dr. Dobrenis takes Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and the claim process has been smooth for me...even when I switched jobs/insurance in the middle of my pregnancy. Dr. Steven Hockstein / Andrea Dobrenis / Garick Leonard Member Review: Simply wonderful. Insurance details: Blue Cross Blue Shield - no problems Review based on birth of 2014 babyReview submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey
Member Review: Dr. Dobrenis is brilliant, talented and kind. I had a tough experience with the delivery of my first child -- it was an emergency c-section after 16 hours of labor and a Doctor who got frustrated at the time that it was taking (it was Mother's Day and her Mom was waiting to go to lunch and she made sure to tell me all about it). Needless to say I had been casual about my OBGYN and realized for baby #2 that is actually matters. I searched for a kind and competent Dr and all roads (and referrals) kept leading to Dr. Dobrenis who is a leader in VBACs. She made it all easy and helped ease all my concerns. She made my 2nd pregnancy worry free. Insurance details: I THINK she only takes Blue Cross Blue Shield. Review based on birth of 2014 baby
