Alternative to Fresh Direct?
I use Amazon Fresh. I only order canned/dry goods and dairy products from them, so there are really no plastic bags involved unless it's part of the food packaging. They deliver in paper bags.Alternative to Fresh Direct?
I find Amazon delivery (Fresh or Whole Foods) to sometimes be better with packaging than Fresh Direct but it's catch as catch can - I had no idea what to do with those huge FD bags, whereas with Amazon it's usually paper bags and I use them to pull paper recycling together or for donations so the packaging doesn't go to waste as much.Grocery delivery services?
I’ve been using FreshDirect weekly since 2007 and love it. The new bag system is great and cuts down on a lot of waste. Their customer service is also very responsive. I’ve had maybe ten issues over all this time and FD has always been either replaced my problem items or refunded me without question. Fish, meat and produce selection are great, as are the frozen baked goods (French bread, croissants, brioche, challah). There is also a surprisingly good cheese selection. We also occasionally order wine through them, as they partner with Union Square Wines. I pay the annual deliverypass fee, so can order as much or as little as I want without having to pay a service fee each time. They have also been waving the delivery fee for FoodKick for us, and that service is great, but I’ve only used it a handful of times. I recently tried Amazon Fresh because of a promotional offer and was not impressed. The delivery just gets dropped off at the front door (FD guys drop my bags into my kitchen). The produce was “meh.” That said, the prices were cheaper and they have a wider selection of “grocery” items/brands than FD (ie, the terrible for you, but guilty pleasure frozen pizzas I like). I also liked that you could get some Whole Foods brands, but I found that selection to be quite limited.Grocery delivery services?
I really like Amazon Fresh. It's easy because I tend to buy some of the same things week to week, and there's an option to "re-add" everything in my previous week's cart. Then, I can delete or add on to that as necessary. The prices are good too, and they have a lot of options. The only downsides is that their produce (particularly fruits) isn't that great, and I've had some delivery snafus where bananas were crushed. However, their customer support refunded me quickly in those cases, now I usually buy produce at our local bodega or Union Market on my way home from work. But that's just a quick stop. Using Fresh overall has saved me 1-2 hours per week.
