- Doula Recommendation: Adale Felix-WaltersIf anyone is looking for a doula, I would like to wholeheartedly recommend Adale Felix-Walters. Adale worked as our doula for the birth of our second daughter this past August, and her presence was invaluable. Adale is knowledgeable, calming, intuitive, respectful, organized, flexible, and, honestly, magical. I gave birth to my older daughter in 2020, and while my partner was thankfully allowed to be present for the birth, we were not allowed any additional support people. It was a very difficult experience overall, and I was eager to have a different experience with my second birth. Adale was incredibly supportive and helpful from the moment we decided to work together - around halfway through my pregnancy - until this day, nearly 6 weeks postpartum. She facilitated important conversations, ranging from the more standard birth plan to communication style, making sure to give me space or check in with me unprompted, depending on what I preferred. Adale was available around the clock to answer questions and listen to and soothe my concerns. She was organized and flexible, knowing which plans needed to be put in place, while also allowing our meetings to be guided by what I needed in that moment. I called Adale at 3:15am when my contractions began, and she answered her phone immediately and calmly. We stayed in close communication for the next few hours, and Adale made herself available to meet me at home or the hospital, depending on my preference. Adale was indispensable throughout my entire labor, especially during the intense contractions before the pushing stage. She not only guided me through the pain, but also instructed my husband on helpful ways to support me throughout the process so we felt like a team. She collaborated with the hospital staff to make sure that I was provided with the best care and that my birth plan wishes were fulfilled whenever possible. Adale also captured the moments after my second daughter’s birth with a few photographs that I treasure. Adale stayed with us until we were settled in our recovery room. She checked in frequently enough that I felt her genuine care for me, and also respected the sacred postpartum space in order to allow my family and me to bond with our newest member. She dropped off gorgeous flowers and delicious homemade soup, really spoiling us! In sum, I cannot recommend Adale more highly.
