- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyAbby helped guide me through a successful v-bac. She recommended practitioners and exercises which helped turn my breech baby and then she helped me navigate the weird time when I was past my due date, and finally, she supported me in labor.
- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyWe did not end up having Abby in the delivery room because of covid, but cannot recommend getting enough. She’s calming and supportive and was so so helpful during the postpartum period.
- Review from the 2020 Birthing Experience SurveyAmazing. Helped me through three nights of prodromal contractions and was a calming force at the hospital.
- 2018 Birth SurveyWe worked with Abby Block and her partner Anna Carapetyan. We had two pre-visits, which were very helpful and let my partner and I think through some of our wishes and get prepped for comfort measures at home and at the hospital. Abby was on call when I went into labor (an induction) and talked us through what to expect. She came to the hospital in the morning when they started me on pitocin because I wanted to try to not have an epidural. 12 hours later, when I tapped out for an epidural she supported that decision (and was very instrumental in helping me go 12 hours without it to start with). She let my husband take the lead on many things to be a primary emotional support and she provided a lot of the hands on massage and encouragement that he didn't have the expertise for. It was a great team effort. In the end, Abby spent 36 hours at the hospital with us and I ended us, talking us through a lot of interventions and helping us be strong in our decisions and choice. We could NOT have gotten through everything without her and I know I would not have been able to pull the vaginal birth out of the clutch (we thought we were ending with a c-section multiple times) without her hands-on support. She was INVALUABLE and I highly recommend.
- 2018 ReviewI absolutely loved our doula Abby Block and cannot imagine going through delivery without her: https://www.abbyblock.com/. I interviewed a variety of people and liked her the best. I would have been too nervous using someone in training. I wanted someone at the right price point (no more than $1500) but who had significant experience. We met with her twice before and she helped us make some decisions about what we anted, and she was there for the delivery, and came by once or twice afterward. I think if this were my SECOND child I might be okay with someone less experience now that I know what to expect.
- [Summer2016Babies] Doula Recs+1 for Abby! We adore her. She's such a calm, confident presence!
- [Summer2016Babies] Doula RecsThe amazing Abby block https://www.abbyblock.com/ Not sure what I would have done without her. She was so helpful and calming through my complicated birth. Wish I could hire to massage and touch me outside of labor
- Review submitted via the PSP Birth SurveyAbby Block and Laura Vladimirova Review: I could not recommend Abby or Laura more highly. They came through Carriage House Birth - level 4 doulas. Definitely worth every penny. Although I was a bit nervous about juggling a duo, they are the perfect duo - a great ying-and-yang, and in essence, you almost get double the guidance and support! The double communication is stellar. Abby and Laura's true gifts came out when my birth plan took a complete 180 (as they are prone to do!). When my doctors told me I needed to be induced early I was overwhelmed, upset and frustrated, to say the least. Abby and Laura were so incredible in turning course and telling me logically the ins and outs of inducement, and also providing strong emotional support for a very intense time. I always thought a doula's main role would be during the actual birth, but actually my induced birth was super smooth and their real support came in the preparation. Based on a October 2017 birthing experience.
- Review submitted via the PSP Birth SurveyDoula Name: Abby Block and Anna Carapetyan Review: Abby and Anna work together and whoever is on call at the time goes to the birth. They each do one prenatal visit as well. Because my labor was so short, I didn't end up having anyone at the birth, but the prenatal visits really made me feel prepared to deal with whatever happened. The postnatal visit was also useful and comforting, and both Abby and Anna are very knowledgeable themselves and know a lot of good referrals for more specific issues. Based on a August 2017 birthing experience.
