Description:  Alma Woodsey Thomas was an African American teacher and artist who lived in Washington, DC, and whose colorful,  abstract works have given her recognition as a major American painter of the 20th century.

Let's celebrate Black History Month by creating a torn paper collage inspired by the work of Alma Woodsey Thomas.

In this week’s Grab & Go Craft Kit you will find colorful paper to create your artwork. Check out Alma W. Thomas beautiful artworks and let it inspire you to create a masterpiece of your own.

Description:  The 2nd Annual Rhythms & Movements of African American Culture Festival is a five-day entertainment extravaganza with the theme, Revolution Requires Resistance, and commemorates the 55th Anniversary of Black History Month, February 12–16. The Festival comprises 14 performances, including four evening performances, six youth shows, 11 featured artist performers,and 100 contributing artists. Audiences will experience an immersive exploration of African American identity and activism through theater, dance, music, spoken word, and visual arts. Our inclusive platform honors the past, reimagines the future, and hopes to ignite change and activism through the transformative power of art.

Description: In this movement workshop for parents/caretakers and their little ones, we will explore the fundamentals of rhythm and movement, using the lens of African Dance. Listening to the beat of the drum, participants and their parents will explore their range of movement and feel how the rhythm moves them to their core! We will use rhythm and stories to bridge the distance between us and keep on moving to a connected beat!

Space is limited, so make sure you arrive early! This event will take the place of our usual Story and Play program.
