CONNECTING MEMBERS
Park Slope Parents is grateful that we have continued to be an invaluable resource for fostering connections within our community. Beyond the vibrant meetups and engaging discussions, PSP has facilitated countless connections through its unique resources. From the invaluable 3-K, Pre-K, and Kindergarten spreadsheets that connect parents with children attending the same schools, fostering playdates and shared experiences, to the specialized group meetups like the Public Interest Law meetup and the invaluable network of marketing professionals, PSP continues to be a place for building relationships and expanding our circles of support. Whether it's finding a nanny share through the dedicated finder form, connecting with parents facing similar challenges within our 150+ groups, or leveraging the power of chat groups to find immediate support and advice, PSP consistently demonstrates its power to bring people together and build a stronger, more interconnected community.

WHO DOESN’T LOVE A DISCOUNT?
Park Slope Parents has not only enriched our social lives but also significantly contributed to our financial well-being. From thrilling sporting events like NY Liberty women's basketball games, where we even provided discount tickets to the championship game (Go LIBERTY!), to enchanting performances like Disney on Ice, Paw Patrol Live, and the Rockettes, and even high-energy spectacles like Monster Trucks, we’ve delivered incredible savings for families. One discounted event pays for your PSP membership!  These exclusive discounts have not only provided access to memorable experiences but have also saved our members thousands of dollars, allowing them to enjoy more family fun without breaking the bank. Thanks to Josh K, our Barclays connection, who made it easy to get discounted group tickets!

THE PARK SLOPE PARENTS CLASSIFIEDS
With over 10,000 messages in 2024, the Park Slope Parents Classifieds continues to serve as an oasis for people to get great secondhand items at great prices in the ever more expensive parenting journey. From cribs to space heaters, great couches to baby clothing, the Classifieds can help you find and unload items, either purging and outfitting your home and family. You can also find a nanny and help your existing nanny find new employment, find a spot to house your family from out-of-town using our classifieds, and post your stoop sales to reach our over 10,000 members across Brooklyn.

THE PSP SWAPS
The Park Slope Parents community has fostered a remarkable spirit of sustainability and resourcefulness through its incredible swap events. From the thoughtfully curated PSP Book Swaps (next one February 1st), where parents can exchange beloved stories and discover new literary treasures, to the incredibly successful Working Moms Clothing Swaps (next one January 11th) that empower mamas to refresh their wardrobes while minimizing waste, these events have proven to be both practical and environmentally conscious. We even organized a Craft Swap this fall, where you could cast off those unfinished projects and leftovers to go to someone else!  A true highlight has been the monumental PSP Members-Only Kids' Clothing, Baby Gear, and Maternity Clothing Swaps, attracting over 800 participants and 100 volunteers and facilitating the exchange of countless items, keeping valuable resources within the community and reducing our collective environmental impact. These swaps are not only a testament to the generosity and resourcefulness of our members but also a powerful demonstration of how our community can come together to create a more sustainable future for all.

The PSP Gratitude Jar: Our Members / Community-Builders

The vibrant pulse of the Park Slope Parents community beats thanks to the tireless efforts of our incredible organizers and volunteers. These dedicated individuals, the true heart and soul of PSP, selflessly dedicate their time and energy to connecting parents, fostering a sense of community, and enriching the lives of families in our neighborhood. From organizing everything from working moms meetups to book clubs, career meetups to heritage group meetups, and countless other initiatives, their contributions are invaluable and deeply appreciated.

SWAP ORGANIZERS

We're all about sustainability at Park Slope Parents, and nothing says reuse, recycle, reduce like the PSP Swaps!  Our HUGE Kids' Swap wouldn't run without our Awesome Swap Organizing Team including Annie, Andrea, Paul, AmyJoy,  Amy W, Jess, Billy, Jaquelyn, Iman, Elzabeth, Lisa, and Joanna.  That doesn't even include our amazing 80+ Volunteers!  Our Book Swap Organizers helped keep books flowing, organized, and in the hands of new families, and included Robin Hessman and Lucy, Yukako Hellebush, Dena Pengas, Teri Duerr, Lindsey Worf, Rachel Sugar, Lisa Friese, Alycin, Amanda Jules, and Rebecca Shaw (and daughter). Thanks also to our new team of Craft Swapping Organizers included Tara Marchio, Jessica Lebovits, Jennifer Crowe, Erin Hurst,  Lea Bonnier, Alyssa Kaufman, Kira Andersen, Lisa Friese, Nora Spears, and Harriet Webster.

WORKING MOMS MEETUP

Our Working Moms Group is full of amazing, busy women who love to meet up. It takes an especially amazing Working Mom to find the time to organize a meetup. Thank you to the moms who organized meetups this year: Emily Bauer, Maria Wang-Faulkner, Helther Klein, and Yi Lin Pei. Another type of event for Working Moms was the MAMA NEEDS A RAISE! Lunch and Learn at OSH, organized by Katherine Gressel. Also for the moms: Michelle Matalon made the NIGHTBITCH advance screening happen!

BOOK CLUBS

Our Book Clubs have grown this year! We’ve continued our long-running Fiction Book Club, under the direction of Andrea Stewart Robinson. That one has been joined this year by our Non-Fiction Book Club, hosted by Laura McComb-DiPesa, Jennifer Young, and Sonia Gupta. Mandi White-Ajmani facilitated a wonderful discussion, hosted by Melissa Herman, about The Anxious Generation book, to help us parent our children in a very online world. Finally, Eileen Gunn has found a way to get the Parents of Tweens and Teens together in a Book Club of their own. There’s even a Grandparents’ Group book club forming!

If you love to read, join the Book Lovers PSP group, where we post the information about all of these Book Clubs. Update your preferences to include the Book Lovers Group here.

For those parents who are considering pausing their careers, or who have paused their careers, Leah Sandals has given them a way to share their experiences, with the Downshifters meetups. Arising from these meetups, Emma Stern organized a discussion about pausing your career with Lisen Stromberg.

BABY GROUP MEETUP ORGANIZERS AND FACILITATORS

Having a new baby is a life changing experience. Being a person who helps facilitate new parents meeting up is a special kind of angel, helping people who otherwise might stay at home rather than getting out into the world after a baby is born. Here are the folks who have made our PSP Baby Groups stronger. A reminder– you don’t need us to help you with a meetup, but we’re happy to help (email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you want to be a “Champion of Connection”).

Maya Ferrante had the idea to get all of the parents of babies together at a weekly meetup at Shapeshifter. (We’ve since added a Thursday meetup!) The February 2024 Baby Group has had some amazing organizers: Allie Marsh, Meera Sarathy, Lena Chebli & Fernando Martinez, Lily Labarre, Zoe Grover-Scicchitano, and Lily Sloss have kept this group going strong! Priyanka Sundaram thoughtfully organized a special Galentines meetup for the March 2024 group. Laura Lennon organized a Halloween party for the April 2023 group

Also very special thanks to Cat Stewart Griffiths and NYC Babywearing, for giving babywearing demos to our new and expecting parents! We have a few more spots in our Jan 11th demonstration here

HERITAGE GROUP MEETUPS
PSLibrayHeritage.png

PSP has over two dozen Heritage Groups! Park Slope Parents has been a vibrant tapestry of cultural experiences this year, with heritage groups celebrating traditions from around the world. From the vibrant Lunar New Year celebrations to joyous Holi festivities to the many other enriching events, these meetups have not only fostered a deeper understanding of different cultures but also strengthened the bonds within our diverse community. Here are our local heroes:

Virginia Lam organized a Tet meetup and a fall get-together for the Vietnamese group. The AAPI and Korean Language Groups are fortunate to have Esther Jung who organized the AAPI Lunar New Year brunch and Korean Language Group storytimes at the Park Slope Library. THE PARK SLOPE PARENTS’ DADS

Research consistently points to the increased risk of loneliness and social isolation among fathers, particularly those navigating the complexities of modern parenthood. Our Dads group offers a much-needed antidote, providing a space for fathers to connect with other dads who understand the unique challenges and joys of fatherhood. Raphael Harry revived the popular Dads Friday Night Soccer games at Soccerroof, and leads the Fatherless Fathers meetups. Ben Kuehn took over Dads Soccer from Raphael, and it’s still going strong. Tong Galaxy organized Dads Group Friday afternoon meetups. Glenn Rehn organized a Dads Trivia Night (with plans for more next year). Patrick Hunt asked a question about men’s groups and ended up orchestrating a number of Dads’ Groups in the process! Dad 411 was a great help to expectant and experienced dads, with over 125 dads coming together for our monthly meetups. Thanks especially to Brendan Hackett who leads these important discussions.

Would you like more Dads meetups? We can help! Reach out to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Fabulous PSP Team

As always, a special shout-out to the Park Slope Parents Team. Did you know that Park Slope Parents has a member-to-staff ratio of about 1,400 to 1? Our team continues to go above and beyond, supporting this amazing community.

Dorothy, Director of Events, continues to juggle webinars, expectant parents events, career events, storytimes, and so much more. Sadly, she will be moving on to other ventures (including a new house upstate) in 2025!

The PSP Anonymous Post Moderator continues to deserve a special shout out, being a mediator between hard situations and advice from members. The APM helped members tackle all sorts of issues in 2024 including, tough stuff conversations around navigating neurodivergence, negotiating expectations with your nanny, grief and loss, and the ever present landlord woes.

Sophie, Nanny Moderator and new Director of Membership has a long history of all things Park Slope Parents and will fill the shoes of the outgoing Sean with determination and compassion.

Rachel continues to help businesses and members get connected through advertising. She also approves messages on the Classifieds and Advice Group, helping everyone get great deals and have great exchanges.

Andrea, new to the team, handles the new baby groups with soft, compassionate gloves, keeps check boxes ticked, keeps Susan on track, and is a joy to work with!

Comings and Goings

Sean, Director of Membership. His passion took him to a Masters Program in Cal Arts in Aesthetics and Politics in September. He is thriving academically and spiritually in California!

Talya was invaluable to PSP, which her current full-time job also felt so gave her a big promotion in Q1 of 2024.  Sadly, she couldn’t continue her role with PSP.

Samantha Fox van Putten, PSP Founding Baby, was key in helping PSP with its brain trust– the PSP Clothing Swap playbook, website, and so many dropped balls that keep the juggle in order. She took a full-time job this fall and is concluding her role with PSP at the end of the month (although she will continue to pop up at events and swaps)!
