Photo Ideas For Lasting Memories

Ideas for taking photos of your child and your child's world.

  • Take pictures of the ordinary, not just the special times.  Go out for pancakes every Saturday?  Read in a special chair every night? Take a photo for memories’ sake.
  • Take pictures of the neighborhood.  This will help you remember what the ‘hood was like when you go back 20 years later.
  • Have professional photos taken. Your photos can be great, but a professional photographer can capture moments in a different way that you may not see. See the PSP list of Recommended Photographers.
  • Take pictures of the neighborhood.  This will help you remember what the ‘hood was like when you go back 20 years later.
  • Take pictures of your kids’ favorites lovey, toys, games outfits, and, of course, their FRIENDS. (Then you can purge some of these things but still have a memory of it!)
  • Take pictures of YOU.  If you’re reading this, you probably take the majority of photos in the family. Don’t forget to let someone else take a photo of you now and again.  And it’s okay if you don’t look perfect all the time.  It’s nice for your kids to remember you as you were on a day-to-day basis.
  • Take photos of the house.  It's good for your insurance records, but it also helps kids remember what their house was like if you move.
  • Take photos over time in the same place or with the same item. Some ideas include:
    • take a photo with a penny on your baby's hand (or a stuffed animal) throughout their life to show how much they grow.
    • take a photo next to a tree in the park and show how both it and your child grows.
    • put an item of clothing on your baby and over time (a teenage t-shirt at 1 month old, 1 year old, 5 years old, 10 years old, etc.)
