Your Hyper-Local Foodie Gift Guide: Blue Apron

  • Print

My name is Adriana and I am obsessed with holiday food. (Hi, Adriana) Today I went into Blue Apron and pretty much went berserk. My only defense is that most of these are gifts -- oh lucky, lucky family members.

First of all, these Amaretti biscuits from Italy. Oh, actually they are for me. This is the seasonal taste I've been craving and now that I am in possession of these cookies I can already tell I'm going to need to buy myself a second box.

But this is about gifts, so let us proceed. I'm getting my eight-year-old niece chocolate truffle hot chocolate in this adorable tin she can use as a piggy bank.

I'm sending some of Baked's peppermint marshmallows with it -- and another bag of peppermint marshmallows are in my cabinet for our own next hot chocolate moment.

Someone else will get this lovely gingerbread hot chocolate mix.

For my nephew and my 20-something brother, Ajiri Tea. All profits go right back into the Kenyan community that makes the tea, and the sweet boxes are hand-made from banana leaves.

Every year I think I'm going to have time to bake and ship my own cookies. This year I'm coming to grips with reality. These cookies from Brittany will taste lovely with the gingerbread hot chocolate, don't you think? And I love the tin.

Over in the savory aisle I picked up one of my favorites, Stony Brook butternut squash seed oil -- brilliant. I bought some over the summer and had it over so many salads, dipped bread into it, drizzled it over grilled veggies. It's made in the Fingerlakes region, so it's one of the few locally-made items in today's list.

But I'm not done food shopping yet -- oh no. There's more fun to be had here in Park Slope. Stay tuned for Part II!

By the way, the Snowflake Celebration is tonight! Shops all over Park Slope will be staying open a little later. You can enjoy tax-free purchases at participating stores and there will be treats and entertainment everywhere.
