Comment:  I delivered my second child at Columbia. On the whole it was a good experience, but not without hiccups. I went in around 9am, 10 days overdue, with the expectation that I would be induced. My husband and I ended up waiting in triage for 10 hours while we waited to be admitted. It was frustrating that I was only allowed one support person in triage, so I had to choose between my husband and my doula. One upside of the long wait is that I could eat without restrictions, and I ended up going into labor naturally from waiting for so long! I got admitted to a room around 5pm, where my doula joined us. As a second time mom, folks basically let me do what I wanted. Even though I had prepared a birth plan, no one had reviewed it in advance, but also no one had any problem with my requests. The anesthesiologist resident at first wasn't listening to me when I said I was not planning on an epidural, but didn't come back after I signed the waiver and explained that I had already given birth once without medication. The labor and delivery nurses were FANTASTIC. I had the most beautiful downtown view of Manhattan while laboring, which I actually appreciated - it gave me something to focus on during contractions. After my son was born, he was put directly on my chest for about an hour to nurse. They took initial measurements in the room, but when we were transferred to recovery, he went to the nursery for tests. I sent my husband with him since I was not ready for him to be without one of us yet. The nurses in recovery were solid, but not as amazing as those in labor and delivery. Both lactation consultants were out while I was there, which was frustrating. Most importantly, I got a private room for *Free* and stayed for two nights. The food was not good but lots of restaurants in the neighborhood deliver to the hospital!

Comment:  The delivery rooms were very nice and the nurses great - the recovery rooms were small and the nurses clearly overtaxed
