Subject:  Private room at Methodist after delivery
Comment:  I gave birth at Methodist in October and was really happy with the experience.I would try to do the tour so that you're comfortable with the layout and where you need to check in, so you're not trying to figure it out while you're in labor. You can't request the private room until the baby has been born. Also, they have more birthing supplies than I expected: a peanut ball, and even a birthing bar that they can attach over the bed.And take advantage of the time you have with the nurses: they're all certified lactation consultants which was so helpful!

Comment:  I thought Methodist was great. The nursing staff in Labor and Delivery and Mother and Baby unit, and the lactation consultants, were (almost) all extremely kind, encouraging and caring. Despite never having met her, I felt the nurse who assisted my delivery was part of my birth team--really a cheerleader for me during delivery. Private rooms are also considerably less expensive than other hospitals, and well worth it.

Comment:  My birth experience was amazing, while my aftercare experience was terrible, aside from two amazing nurses. The birth room was large and comfortable. My nurse was fantastic and realized I was ready to push before I was. Dr. Paone arrived and my baby was born 15 minutes later. My after birth experience is something I’m still thinking about almost a year later. My baby wasn’t properly latching, though I didn’t know it at the time. And after I delivered there was no nursing consultant. She cluster fed until morning and screamed all night long. I after waiting all night to be induced, giving birth, and then feeding all night, I kept nodding off with my screaming baby in my hospital bed.Mercifully, one the nurses asked if I would like to send my baby to the nursery so I could sleep after being awake for two days.I attended their nursing class in the morning and again attempted to find a consultant later in the day when my infant cluster fed and screamed. On our third day in the hospital the pediatrician determined my baby was completed dehydrated as she hadn’t peed in two days. I felt awful and still feel awful for essentially starving my infant. After leaving the hospital I sought out a lactation consultant and IBCLC and dealt with two burst abscesses.

Comment:  Wonderful birthing experience. At the 'push' stage, I had a cheerleading team of at least 6 midwives, nurses, and my doctor. It was an incredible experience! Post-birth care was hit or miss as far as "care" vs. "just going through the motions robotically" but overall a good experience and I would deliver there again.

Comment:  The lactation consultants and the whole NICU staff at the hospital are literal angels. Everything about my birth experience got us “off to a bad start” with breastfeeding - c section, then my baby was quarantined and untouchable for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th day of her life. Also, I already knew that I would have some difficulty because of low breast tissue. I’m not exclusively breastfeeding but they gave me the confidence and skills to breastfeed and supplement. I know that people say “size doesn’t matter” but I really appreciated Kelsey’s honesty when she suggested that I might never be able to exclusively breastfeed in my case. Rather than suggesting that if I just pumped every hour for 72hours, ate a lot of supplements, drank water like I was lying under a faucet, and breastfed my baby that somehow my 2oz boobs would miraculously make 6-8oz of milk. It’s less blame y.

Comment:  It's a hospital. I'm glad I spent most of my labor at home and only came in to push and for recovery. In no particular order: The food is terrible. No one could figure out how to fix the mechanism to raise/lower the bed. Right after my baby was born, the nurses were fiddling with the warming tray and couldn't get it warm enough, then acting like there was something wrong with my newly-born baby because he got cold. That sort of small-scale but annoying incompetence. But the private room for $350 was nice.

Comment:  Labor and delivery nurses were lovely. Being local was amazing so my husband could go home for our toddler’s bedtime each night I was in the hospital.

Comment:  Good. We did get a private room. Our only complaint is that it took a long time for the nurses to fulfill our requests (for example, it took several hours to get discharge papers, when they were promised earlier)

Comment:  I was so glad to be close to home for my birth and delivery. While the triage experience was not great, the nurses and doctors were very supportive, helpful, and I had a very positive birth experience. My had to go the NICU and the nurses were amazing, I was very satisfied with my experience. I felt like my little baby was being really well cared for. Most of my experience was made positive because I was able to close to home where my partner could go back and forth if needed.

Comment:  Had a great experience with staff that was personable and responsive. Stayed in a private room and found they have been upgraded since my first child was born in 2013 with a small tv attached to the bed and some nice toiletries. Small things but it did make it more bearable to be stuck in bed for a few days.
