Comment:  We chose Carousel because it has the feel of a pre-school with the benefits of a daycare. They have a beautiful open classroom with a large outdoor space. They only have children ages 2-4 so it is relatively small (15-20 kids). They do a lot of different activities, but still have true full-day hours (7:30-6pm). They even put on a 'play' each semester which is adorable! Our daughter is really enjoying it About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours

Comment:  They admittedly will tell you that this is a 'traditional learning environment' what this translates to is a highly structured environment with the kids being directed a lot. They started to talk to us about kindergarten prep for our 2 year old. There is very limited 'free play'. The 'teachers' do not engage with parents--that is limited to the administrators only. The teachers are also rarely visibly engaged with the children. Overall, I would not recommend this program for people who are interested in a play based, child based, loving environment. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours What would you change? Everything! Including creating separate playspaces and playgroups of kids of different ages--the room mixes kids from 2-5 years old and our son who was younger frequently picked up bad habits from older kids. He is now in a program with kids within a 6 month age range and works so much better for a young kid.

Comment:  My son attended Carousel for six months after we moved to Brooklyn and had missed the admissions windows for most other schools. The school was passable for desperate childcare measures, but you could do much much better. The teachers were ambivalent about the children and the administrators take a public school-like approach to the curriculum, despite the wide range of ages that the school services (2-5 year olds). If you want your child to get tough soon, fend for themselves, and learn that the world is a hard place at an early age, this is the place. If you want caring and thoughtful adult interactions with your children, look elsewhere. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours What would you change? Ambivalent teachers and administrators.
