Comment:  I absolutely ADORE our vet. Brooklyn Roots on 3rd Ave and about Carroll. Competent, kind, compassionate, and gracefully saw us through a very sad loss of our little kitty.

Comment:  We got a few recs for Brooklyn Roots on 3rd ave and has the first appointment last month, and it was such a better experience, would highly recommend them. We had no wait getting in, and was super easy. We asked about the “senior bloodwork” the old vet had been pushing every checkup, and Dr Stronger said she didn’t think we needed to do that. She also offered to keep a bag of the prescription dog food our dog is on in stock for us at all times (we had to have the old vet order it for us, and was always a pain to call it in with enough notice in their ordering cycle to get it in before we ran out). So we are only one visit in but was such a better experience and wish we had switched sooner.

Subject:  UPDATE: Adopting a guinea pig - advice please!
Comment:  Yes, Marcela Salas at Brooklyn Roots Veterinary Hospital on 3rd Ave and 1st St has experience with and is knowledgeable about guinea pigs and she is lovely and kind. She used to be at Animalkind on 7th Avenue and I brought the guinea pig that was at my daughters school to her.

Subject:  Best at-home veterinarian for end of life?
Comment:  We had to have our senior cat euthanized at home a few years ago and the vet who handled it was Marcella Salas- however, she has since opened her own practice in Gowanus (Brooklyn Roots) with Rebecca Stronger, another amazing vet who also cared for our cat for many years. Although it was incredibly sad I am so grateful to her and that we were able to do it this way. It was much less stressful for everyone. I am not sure if they do these kinds of house calls anymore but they are both incredibly kind and compassionate, as well as great doctors, so maybe worth checking out.

Comment:  Rebecca and Marcela are beyond words caring kind and smart and the technicians as well. I had to put my dog down in February but am so grateful they were there to take care of us. I know that they did everything they could do. It makes the loss somewhat bearable.

Comment:   We take our cats to Brooklyn Roots on 3rd Avenue and love them. Our vet is Dr Stronger but we’ve seen both and they’re both great doctors. They’re especially great, I think, at triaging issues - I.e. they don’t run 100 tests right away unless they think it’s really necessary, and I trust them 100%. I’ve referred two other pet owners there who have been very happy. Oh - they’re also great about responding to phone calls and emails.

Comment:  We've been really happy with Brooklyn Roots Vet clinic on 3rd Avenue. We followed Dr. Stronger from her old office to this new one. Our cat recently had a urinary problem and we received great care.I also like that you can request appointments online.

Subject:  Recommendation for thoughtful veterinary care
Comment:  Two former Animal Kind vets, Rebecca Stronger and Marcela Salas, have opened their own hospital in Gowanus (3rd Ave): http://www.brooklynrootsvet.com/My cat died about 2 years ago, but Rebecca was his vet for much of his 17-year-life. She is smart, straightforward, compassionate and has a great bedside manner with both animals and people. She is really great about translating medical information into terms you can understand, and is good about not ordering unnecessary tests. We also saw Marcela quite a bit, especially towards the end of his life, and I would highly recommend her as well.(Full disclosure: Rebecca is now a friend, but she was my vet first, long before before we happened to meet socially through mutual friends!)

Comment:  I second the recommendation for Dr. Salas and Dr. Stronger at Brooklyn Roots. I've brought my dogs to Dr. Salas for 13 years and she's amazing. My last dog had severe behavioral issues, especially at the vet's office, and Dr. Salas was so loving toward him and managed his medical care in a way that no other vet seemed to be able to do.
