Comment:  Pre-natal yoga: Alicia Allison at Thirdroot in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. She was very helpful with healing suggestions during and after pregnancy. I still do some of her stretches!

Comment:  I totally hear you about finding people who understand aging bodies (and also women's bodies). I had many yoga injuries in my 20s and 30s, but the yoga of my 40s (and now on the cusp of 50) has been very stabilizing, mostly because of the classes I've taken at Third Root in Ditmas (very close to the Cortelyou Rd Q train). One of the co-owners, Emily Kramer, is a fantastic, sensitive, and incredibly knowledgeable yoga teacher (I think she is still on sabbatical for another month) and I love her classes. I've had various injuries and have an ongoing general issue with joint laxity since starting there about 6 years ago, and she always accommodates thoughtfully. Shri Devi Diehl is also a wonderful teacher who I think is ideal for older women and different body types. Lastly, Alicia Allison is a teacher who is very knowledgeable about anatomy and I've always gotten insights about my own body from taking her classes. Both Alicia and Shri Devi teach on the weekends and they accommodate all levels. Alicia's advanced classes are very challenging.

Comment:   I loved Alicia's prenatal classes at Third Root in Ditmas Park when I was pregnant. They were a good mix of active movement and restorative postures. After giving birth, I went to Alicia's "regular" classes and she always gave me extra attention and guidance for post-partum modifications. Alicia is also a post-partum doula and I bet she would be amazing to work with.Based on April 2016 Birth Experience
