Phelps is a tiny local hospital, and if you are a low-risk pregnancy, then Phelps feels more like a birthing center than hospital, but with all the benefits and security of being in an actual hospital. There are 4 labor & delivery rooms, so the personal attention you get is incredible. I was greeted by name upon my arrival. The staff is amazing and so eager to give you whatever experience YOU want. I never had to ask to get off the monitor, they were eager to give me as much freedom of movement as possible. I had a very large labor room with room to walk around, room for my husband to lie on a couch, and (best) a labor tub. The nurses are extremely kind and caring. I just felt so incredibly cared for the entire time. Do not come here if you are looking for something fancy. It's a very small, down-to-earth place. It feels old. But its homey and overlooks the hudson river and you are pretty much gauranteed a private room (at no additional cost!). I received a ton of breastfeeding help from nurses and lactation counselors as well. If you are looking for a natural birth, this is a great bet, they are very hands off and want to give you the space and comfort to do your thing. There is no rush to turnover beds as you find in the city, but a genuine love and respect for the process of labor and it is felt every step of the way. Do you recommend? Highly recommend Don't expect anything fancy. You don't choose Phelps for the amenities, you choose it for its incredible staff.
