Comment:  Our 15-month-old has been in near-full-time care at BumbleBeesRUs since he was about 4 months old. We've been extremely pleased with his care. The director and all of the caregivers are kind, engaged, and clearly invested in his well-being. While there is some turnover among younger staff at least three of the caregivers have remained constants. Bumblebees teaches baby sign language, has regular holiday "parties" in the last hour of the day for parents to participate in activities, and sends a near-daily email with a photograph from the afternoon — all of which we appreciate. They are open during some NYC school holidays but are closed for occasional professional development days; there's no summer vacation to schedule around. My only complaint is that the building seems run down (the daycare itself seems clean and bright). About the facility: Has outdoor space

Comment:  Our son has been at BumbleBees R Us on 8th Street since he was 3 1/2 months. At the beginning, there was some staff turnover that concerned us, but since they hired a new manager at the beginning of November, things have been pretty consistent there. Our son loves it there, and is always happy when he arrives. The staff is affectionate and they have a lot of activities for them, like crafts, music/yoga, and an outdoor playspace, which one of these days it will be nice enough out to use again! They send pictures daily, and one of my favorite things they do is after-school events around each holiday where parents are invited to do a craft with the kids. It's fun and allows us to socialize with the other parents and see how our kiddos play in that space. They are also good about keeping us informed about his eating and sleeping habits. Some staff is better than others. I just hope things stay consistent for a while. About the facility: Has outdoor space What would you change? Consistent staffing

Comment:  Center-based daycare. Facility is relatively new and the rooms are clean and bright. Our daughter has been in the infant room. One of the best aspects has been the head teacher of the infant room but she is leaving shortly. Caregivers are warm, caring, and very friendly. Not a ton of 'structure' but this is for infants. Administration is present but not the easiest to deal with. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals. What would you change? More consistent staffing.

Comment:  We originally sent our child here before switching daycares. The caregivers were wonderful, and the early dropoff/late pickup options helpful, but the management was often uncommunicative and combative when dealing with parents. There was a lot of staff turnover, including the center director. About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has early morning hours, Provides meals What would you change? More communication with parents. Friendlier management.

Comment:  Lots of teachers -usually seems like about 2 kids per teacher in the infant/toddler room. Very caring, my son is happy to go. They can actually get him to nap there, which is kind of amazing. He comes home clean, well-rested, and well-fed. Sometimes with other kids’ clothes or food containers/bottles, but I think we could do a better job labeling. There’s a sheet they fill out daily of feeding and changing and sleeping, but I don’t think it’s terribly accurate. Even so, I use the spirit of it to guide our evenings. And they send home daily photos of activities- often it’s just foot painting, but I like that afternoon photo of my little sweetie. Hopefully as the weather gets warmer they will go outside more. Overall, is it ideal? Nah, but it’s safe and convenient and that’s what we need for an infant and toddler. About the facility: Has outdoor space What would you change? The building (it's housed in a brownstone) kind of sucks - dank and dark in the hallway and I never feel great on the creaking steps carrying an infant. The landlord should make the stairs leading to the daycare nicer.

Comment:  About the facility: Has outdoor spaceReview: We are currently in their Daycare program, as our child is 14 months. The good stuff first: the care takers are so warm and loving to [my child]. She was a very difficult baby, colicky and cried often unless she was being held, and they took her in at 4 months with no problems. Within a couple days, she was being handed off to them without a tear. She looks at a couple of the ladies as family. They have an outdoor patio space that they use during the warmer days, which is nice, and the front play room gets lots of sun. I also like how easy it is to get there, as it's located between our apartment and the subway. Now the not-so-great: The facility is MAJORLY run down. The building is old and it shows. The lights go out in the hallway often, garbage is not always picked up from the front of the building, the garage doesn't always work where you are supposed to put strollers, etc. And in the winter, the owner of the building takes over the garage and patio to sell Christmas Trees, so you have to find alternative means to store your stroller. Also, they close a few too many days for "Professional Development" days, making us look for alternative care, which I wouldn't mind if I saw an improvement in the care, but I do not. They also stopped sending weekly newsletters home, and I get few too little pictures during the day. I also have found they have a couple workers that struggle with English, and when they are in charge of sending the babies home in the evenings, it's hard to have a conversation on her child, and you have to wait until the next day to speak to the director. And lastly, they are grossly overcharging us. They will definitely try to raise the cost at your one year mark. And they don't provide meals, and with the falling-down facilities, it's hard to justify the cost. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? The facilities need a HUGE update. They need to hire only ladies that can speak English with enough fluency where you can ask questions on your child at pick up. I wish they served meals.Review from the 2016/2017 PSP Daycare, Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten Survey

Comment:  About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides meals, Open 8am-6pm dailyReview: My son loved the caregivers. I loved that the downstairs room (2+) provided meals. Hated that during December the outdoor area is off limits due to the owner selling xmas trees.

Comment:  About the facility: Has outdoor space, Provides mealsReview: Liked. Director really nice, nice space, good caregiversWhat would you change about the program, if anything, and why? We're more "attachment parenting" style parents and sometimes we felt the caregivers weren't as comfortable with that style. For instance, instead of letting them cry, caregivers try to distract, etc.

They are tireless, kind, patient, intelligent and caring. Their feedback about my child, whether it has to do with strides he's making or concerns they have, has been insightful and hugely helpful. The facility is clean and inviting. The ONLY issue I've had with this daycare is with the administration, which, with only a month's notice, hiked the rates 20% starting July 1. Not an insignificant change to our family budget, that's for sure. I know many other parents were extremely unhappy with this.Would you recommend? Highly recommendWould you send your child again? I find all the other teachers to also be warm and loving towards the children. We were very happy to be sending our child there....until they raised the rates 20% with only 6 weeks notice. Since then, the owner of the daycare has been extremely unpleasant to deal with, and because of that I would hesitate to offer any recommendation to the place. It is such a shame because the caregivers, at least in the infant room, have been exceptional. If you send your child there, please know that they may raise the rates on you exorbitantly (honestly, their new rate is so high that I haven't found a single other daycare in the area that matches it), with little warning.Would you recommend? Comment:  My younger son has been attending Bumblebees R Us Daycare at 8th st and 8th ave for over a month and I wanted to spread the word. They accept infants from 6weeks to 2 years in the infant room on the second floor and older children are on the ground floor. We are very happy with the care he has been receiving! Gail is the only caregiver for the infant room so farand she is great. I feel very comfortable leaving my son with her.no affiliation other than a happy parent who doesn't want her daycare to have to shut down for low enrollment!!
