50 States in 50 Days: Alabama

Could we find 50 state licence plates on the streets of Brooklyn in 50 Days? How about 50 hours? We've had a tremendous response and we are now only 12 states short of our goal! A big "thank you" to everyone who sent in photos. You can see the states we still need below. I will personally buy the person who finds South Dakota (my ancestral home) a beverage of his or her choice . In the meantime, on with the show!
Alabama is our first state and comes to us from Marcia Adams, PSP member and all around licence whisperer. Alabama is situated on the Gulf Coast between Mississippi on the West, Tennessee on the North and the states of Florida and Georgia on the East. "Alabama" is the name of one of the tribes of people inhabiting the area. It's Choctaw word meaning (according to scholars, according to Wikipedia) "gatherers of herbs".
Alabama became a state in December of 1819. Alabama produced a wide variety of agricultural product as well as steel, cars, coal, paper, lumber and wood. It is also a center for automobile manufacturing and aerospace.
Famous Alabamans include: Tallulah Bankhead, Willie Mayes, Helen Keller, Truman Capote, Angela Davis, Lionel Hampton, Emmy Lou Harris, Joe Lewis, Harper Lee, Zora Neale Hurston, Rosa Parks, Wilson Picket, Hank Williams, E O Wilson and a staggering number of other amazing people. Many thanks to Marcia for the plates!
Keep 'em coming!
