Comment:  I joined One Medical in January because I wanted a PCP to help track non-urgent and preventative care, and hadn't been impressed with my (admittedly scattered) PCP experience elsewhere in my 6 years in NYC.I had a good first appointment, and they made time to talk about my concerns and set up referrals for me.I was most impressed though when a few months later I got tested for COVID-19 and antibodies at City MD and was returned some confusing and unexpected results. I called One Medical's telemedicine channel, and the nurse practitioner spent 15 minutes discussing not just the possible epidemiology of MY results with me, but the results of other people in my household who were not One Medical members, and the likely risk/exposure of my (still untested) child. She then scheduled me a follow-up test at One Medical the following week, for which I only had to wait 2 minutes (as opposed to 2 hours at CityMD) and received my results 36 hours later. It was a level of care and attention I haven't experienced anywhere else in the US healthcare system, and I wish it was accessible to people without having to pay to join a private network (on top of insurance, copays, and everything else).

The staff was super helpful and friendly and organized. It only took about 10 minutes to sign in and get the antibody and Covid tests. They said the results could take up to 5 days, but I got the results for both tests the next day.

You can sign up for a free month and won’t be charged after the 30 days are up. “GETCARE30” I think if you have insurance or not. Comment:  My husband and I use One Medical for ourselves and our 6 week old son is a patient of Dr Hsus at the Park Slope office. We have loved One Medical for years for ourselves and so far feel exactly the same way about our sons experience. We are first time parents so have nothing to compare to but Dr Hsu is wonderful - intelligent, level headed, a good listener and caring. The practice is really set up to support parents and make sure your kid gets the care they need with as little inconvenience to you as possible. Appointments are easy to get and aren’t rushed, you can email with your doctor, they have a 24 hour help line staffed with pediatric RNs and in the event of an emergency (one that wouldn’t require the ER that is) they can get your appointment very quickly (for context they apologized we had two wait three hours to get in when our son was having some minor issues). Their offices are clean and you never have to wait more than a few minutes which is convenient, but also means u and ur kid aren’t hanging out in a germ infested waiting room begging to get sick for an hour. All in all, cannot recommend them highly enough!

That being said I don’t have any experience with the pediatrics. But my husband and I are total converts and wish we had started earlier - too many years of skipping routine care as other dr offices were not as convenient or easy.

Comment:  We switched to SSP from One Medical and I really miss One Medical! My only complaint with them was that occasionally, we couldn’t get a same day sick visit. However, we expressed our concerns and they made it easier to get same day sick visits. A major advantage was that we could go to their tribeca office on Saturdays, which helped us avoid urgent care on the weekends. Their video visits were also an invaluable resource and helped us avoid going in to the office to see a doctor when our kid was sick. I was always glad to stay home if I could. I think this service is absolutely worth the annual fee. We only left because they dropped our insurance.

Comment:  Overall, I like it too. Pros: same-day appointments, easy to make appointments through the app, video chats with medical professionals (utilized a bunch when I wasn't sure if I needed to come in to the office), appointments are always taken on time, which is huge for me. Cons: not great if you have a medical issue requiring specialists or more in-depth care. You tend to get bounced around a lot between different providers depending on who is available that day and there's never a guarantee your "primary" provider will have near term availability. It's great if all you need are physicals and occasional visits for illness though.

On the whole, a positive and uncommonly convenient doctor experience! Dr. Berk mentioned that several of the doctors in the Park Slope practice, including him, are family doctors and could see our daughter as well. We don't want to leave our pediatrician right now but it's nice to think that the whole family could share a doctor at some point.
