    Description:

Most kids get bored or frustrated with music lessons and struggle to stick with them. (Sound familiar?) At Brooklyn Music Factory though, our curriculum motivates kids to play music with each other, encourages creative songwriting, and includes lots and lots of games--so kids are inspired to grow into lifelong music makers! We offer band classes (ages 4-adult) and private lessons (ages 5-adult). Check out our birthday parties & camps too!

    Discount:

Special discount for PSP Community Members: Register for a private lesson or band class and we will waive our membership fee! ($40) First-time customers only. Discount limited to one per family. Must show proof of PSP membership. Offer good until January 2021.

Comment:  Huge fan of Brooklyn Music Factory! My kids have a cultivated love for music, don’t “hate” the piano. And we have no ambition to head to Juliard.Check them out! Excellent Zoom teaching too.

Comment:  Signed up my son for this camp on a whim and it was a big hit. He'd taken formal music lessons for a little while earlier this year but chafed at them, so I wanted to give him a chance to explore music in another setting. The camp was fun, relaxed, creative and very age appropriate. The counselors seemed really warm. The kids also spend an hour or so each day at Brooklyn Boulders which broke up the day and was a great chance to do something physical without baking in the blazing hot sun.

Comment:  I went with Brooklyn Music Factory over Suzuki method or (there were two other schools/methods whose names I can’t remember). They gameified the music basics; build in a love for performing and listening to others; and it has worked for my kid. Of course, some kids do better w something more serious, or more nurturing (like in-home one/one lessons), etc.

Comment:  I highly recommend Brooklyn Music Factory. They divide the kids into bands according to age and level at the beginning of week and write, rehearse and perform their song at week’s end. My 7 year old boys have gone a few summers in a row. Amazing teachers and wonderful camp.

Comment:  Age: 11 Review: BMF is the best! This was our daughter's fourth - one week winter or summer camp experience with them. How they mold a group of kids with or without music experience or talent into a band that actually performs an original rock song within just one week still amazes us. The staff is all talented and super friendly/helpful/supportive. They go to the Degraw Street park and/or Brooklyn Bolders for climbing every day, so its not all music. What would you change? At 11, our daughter has probably outgrown their weeklong camp program, which doesn't change much from year to year. She will however continue private lessons there, because she loves the teachers and we definitely see result both in skill and passion. It would be great if they came up with a formula for the weeklong camps that would be a bit different somehow than the same format, so tweens could more easily "graduate" to a new experience with them.

Comment:   I wanted to pass along a great music opportunity for 4 & 5 year-olds. The Mini-Keys program at the Brooklyn Music Factory offers semi-private classes where children make music on keyboards, mics, drum sets, etc. The director, Jason, is an awesome musician and long-time early childhood educator. He's taught my son for years and I couldn't recommend him highly enough!

Comment:  They loved this camp when they were younger so we decided to go back this year for a week. However, they clearly aged out at 12 years of age. Maybe I should have know that but I do wish the staff had been proactive and told me that when we signed up. Only a few other kids their age were in their band. I'd like BMF to be more clear in their marketing and communication around this. If you have older kids, remember to ASK how many kids will be in their age group in relation to the other younger set. They had an OK time they did love the rock climbing. If you could change anything, what would it be?Age of child: 12Based on a Summer 2017 experience

Comment:  Program: Age of Child: 5 Likes: He loved being in a band of 6 kids - was great for both music learning and communal bonding. He also loved and was proud of the performance at the end of each week, as he got to play a real electric guitar and bass! What would you change? Nothing! Would you send your child(ren) again? Yes Do you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? Great culture

Comment:  Brooklyn Music Factory in Gowanus! Both my children take private guitar and drums there and have participated in bands where they get to learn all the band instruments (including electric guitar and keyboard), how to play in a group, collaborate on music writing, cover popular songs across genres and perform on an awesome stage. Warm, family oriented environment. Very cool. Hard to find anything this wonderful anywhere else. Kids love it. They have stuff for parents too. Drum circles are always a part of the warm up too. Great teaching model to inspire love of music from an early age.
