Comment:  Our son liked this camp and asked to do it again. He went during the space week, and each day came home with many space related crafts (playdoh model of the layers of the earth, launchable rockets, alien space ships) and was able to talk in reasonable detail about some science concepts related to space. What he loved the most though were the counselors, including one he referred to as "the funniest person on earth", who it turns out was funny because she joked about wearing a diaper. Like Carmelo's other science shows/camps, this one incorporates toilet humor, which we knew going in and felt okay with, because it was used to draw the kids in, but good to know. After care was only $25 a day for up to 3 hours, and they got to take out the many animals during after care, which was a nice bonus. If you could change anything, what would it be? We got reports that they watched short videos during the day, don't know how long or frequent, and often about science topics, but still we question the use of videos when we're paying a premium for the program.Age of child: 5Based on a Summer 2017 experience

Comment:  The camp was fun and silly. They had one field trip week, which my son usually loved. The counselors were diverse, competent, and warm.If you could change anything, what would it be? The campers spent very little time outside. My son is active, and he came home with more pent up energy than he does after a day at school. Fridays was movie day, with no outside time. As far as I could learn from my son, they went to one small neighborhood playground. I really want my son to be running around more in the summer.Age of child: 5.5Based on a Summer 2017 experience

Comment:  Age of child: 5Venue Review: Fantastic time for a bunch of 5 year olds. They got to hold a bunch of scaly and fluffy animals (rabbit, gerbil, SNAKE!) and then did a science experiment. The teacher was absolutely engaging and I was shocked at how focused and excited the kids were through the whole thing. Pizza delivered and cake brought it to wrap it up... staff did ALL setup and clean up for the meal. Drop off optional. Parents did nothing but enjoy. Such a fantastic memory for us.

Comment:  We just had our 6 year old's party at Carmelo the Science Fellow and it was a big hit. They interact with animals, do an experiment that they can take home, and have food. There was a buzz about the party back at school so I'll use that as a measure of success.

Comment:  Age of Child 9Reason for Choice: of special interest to my child, ease of planning.Likes: This is the second year in a row he had his birthday party here. I think he liked the fact that it was familiar. He loves Carmelo, he likes that it is not sports oriented and that it has animals, and I think he likes that it is structured and not crazy/wild like a party at an indoor play space with a lot of running around and shrieking. Carmelo sits the children in a circle for much of it and while he is very entertaining and lively, the overall atmosphere is controlled and calm, which for some kids is a big plus. Most of the kids invited have special needs, as they are classmates of my son's, and this was a perfect birthday party setting for these kids. If you really want a lot of physical activity, there's not much.Changes: Aside from a little more space, nothing. There isn't much space for the adults to hang out in, and Carmelo makes it clear he wants the parents to butt out and leave the party to the kids. Most of the parents at my son's party were happy to go walk around the area. For the kind of kid who really loves animals and/or science, this is a good birthday party setting. Not included in the Party Package: food for kids, cake,Cost Per Child: $11-$15DO you recommend? (Choices: Highly/Recommend/DoNot) Highly recommendOther Info: Carmelo's books up really early. My son's birthday is in late April, and if I had to call in early February in order to have a choice of dates any time near his birthday. You need to be persistent with getting in touch with him because he is very busy,
