They were extremely helpful to me in terms of ensuring the right latch and working to increase my milk supply.Insurance details:(Review submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey)

Comment:  Member Review: Ellen has been with me every step of the way. She provided valuable advice when I was getting close to an induction because the baby was 10 days past the due date, and suggested several ways on how to potentially start labor sooner (which did happen after all). Then, Ellen spent 24 hours with us at the hospital, and her support and help have allowed me to labor for 26 hours without any pain medication. Despite a very challenging, 34-hour labor which seemed to head to a Cesarean delivery, we were able to have a vaginal birth with a 9+ pound baby. Do not underestimate the value of the support in your labor room during these critical moments. It helps you work through the labor pain, have a sounding board for decisions and have another advocate in the room. Insurance details: N/A (Review submitted via the 2014 Birthing Survey)

Comment:  Ellen Farhi was our doula for the birth of our daughter in September, 2010. This was our first child. The birth went extremely well, and to the extent that any one factor influenced this, I really credit Ellen with helping us think through our priorities and approach the birth process in a positive and low-key way. Ellen spoke with me on the phone at length when I initially contacted her, answering many questions I had about her experience and her role as a doula. She met with us at our home for an initial consultation, and we both felt extremely comfortable with her approach and with her personally. Ellen was friendly, respectful, professional, and knowledgeable, and I felt that she had a personal interest in her work, but liked that she completely refrained from imposing a particular mindset or approach on us.We definitely wanted to work with her after meeting with her. She met with us several more times before the birth, probably totaling about 5-6 hours of contact. She was always responsive and available by phone, e-mail, and in person. When I went into labor, Ellen offered advice over the phone until we asked her to come over. I had a labor of about 20 hours with no pain medication or other drugs, and arrived at the hospital 1.5 hours before giving birth. Ellen was with us for a few hours before we went to the hospital. Having her there helped me stay calm, and her advice allowed me to labor effectively when the contractions were most intense. During the actual birth, she provided good advice, and her presence was also really helpful and comforting. I wanted to avoid medication, but felt like Ellen would have been extremely supportive if I had changed my mind, or if my initial inclination was to use medication.I would definitely hire Ellen again for future births, if we have more children. She was instrumental not just in helping with the birth, but in asking questions and providing information ahead of time that gave me a better idea of what to expect. She also helped me feel more emotionally ready to give birth. Overall, I'm really glad that we chose to work with a doula and especially with Ellen. Also, her fee is very reasonable for the level of service and experience she provides.
