Comment:  I have 2 kids there- my 2 year old in pre school and my 4 year old in the upk program and we have been very happy there. The school is very organized, clean, has good fresh meals and does interesting stuff with the kids. Music together comes for the 2 year olds once a week. Lots of outdoor time on the rooftop play area. Kind and experienced teachers (so far haven’t been any turnover and most teachers return) The upk has some interesting aftercare options and they are flexible and you pay only for the aftercare days you need. Also the upk really prepares kids (and parents!) for kindergarten and there is a real focus on learning (as well as play) there. I’ve been at 4 different daycares over the years and this one stands out as being the most organized and well run. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals … What would you change? I’d love more daily reports/photos of the day preschool they give you a report but not for upk but I’m guessing this is more normal... there is a monthly newsletter that is good.

Comment:  Have been attending since our child was 2. They run a very tight ship and are meticulous in following all laws etc. They also provide a very rich and positive experience for the kids. They have a private play space and provide all meals. They have early care, after school care as well as "clubs" for UPK kids. … About the facility: Has outdoor space, Has afterschool options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals … What would you change? Better communications from Admin to Parents

Comment:  Program: Explorers Age of Child: 3 Likes: Everything! The curriculum was fantastic. Every week had a theme and activities went along with it. There was a pirates week, there was an ocean week, there was a knights and princesses week, etc. The activities were different every day. They did yoga, cooking, dance, music, went outside on hikes, had plenty of water play, went on field trips every week (zoo, Brooklyn Children's museum, Kids In Action, Botanical Garden, etc). Children had 3 freshly cooked and healthy meals a day - breakfast, lunch and snack. There was rest time. The teachers were amazing! Fun, outgoing, responsible, kind, just super! Comment:  I have written about Kaleidoscope before too, they are great. Their new location is a little off Park Slope (don't remember the name of the area), its 480 Stratford Road. They do have a cool little bus for pick ups and drop offs. They are very conscientious and are a good deal in comparison with some other schools around. My two kids went there and love it. My older is asking for their summer camp after having a blast at the mid-winter one.

Comment:  Program: 4s Summer CampAge of Child: 4Likes: The number and variety of activities was truly impressive. My child also attended Kaleidoscope for pre-K where they are more focused on academics, but in summer camp the goal seems to make sure they are all exhausted every day. With the addition of the "Pash-mobile", a van used for field trips driven by one of the owners, I think they went on some kind of field trip more often then they stayed in the neighborhood. I think we got an incredible value for our money this summer with all the activities. They went to museums, zoos, camping, bowling, and I'm certainly forgetting something. I think camp was so great. What would you change? It would be nice if communication was a little better. They hand out a schedule at the start of the summer, but changed things around often enough that I was sometimes confused about what was happening on a given day. I was always confident it would be great, but I was unsure if we needed a bathing suit, etc.Would you send your child(ren) again? YesDo you recommend? Highly recommend Do you have any other information to add? There is a level of trust necessary to send your kids with others on these kind of adventures, I think the owners were very deserving of our trust and did a great job.

Comment:  Review date June 2013 (for 2012-2013 year)Program: Pre-K 4s Length of time: Full-time (only option) Child's age: 4-5 yearsReview: We have been very pleased to send our child to Kaleidoscope this year. The owners/teachers, Pasha and Oksana are very warm and have a great relationship to the children. They serve all food, which is awesome compared with making a lunch every day. I would wholeheartedly recommend Kaleidoscope to any family. I was especially pleased with the fact that it is a small school with good teacher/student rations, at least 1/6.Do you recommend? (Hi/Rec/DoNot) Highly recommend

Comment:  My son attends Kaleidoscope, we started last September and love it. I very much like their space, location, program (drama and almost specialized music classes (they have a great grand piano), in addition to all the regular classes). I feel that Oksana, the owner and main teacher, puts her heart into what she does and is very conscientious about her choices and practice. My son loves it, he is in the 3 y.o. group and has learned quite a bit. I also like the food they cook, very homy and healthy.

Comment:  I wanted to give a recommendation for this pre-school/arts center. It is fairly new, and in case any of you were wondering how the place was, after a few visits I took the leap and registered my daughter for their Smart Start program. She has been attending for a little over a month now, and we are both very pleased/happy thus far. The school is run by a woman named Oksana, who also teaches the Smart Start program (She brings in someone else to teach some of the other classes offered). Oksana is a certified NYC teacher with Masters in Education. She is also a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Credentials aside, she is great with Cassidy. On one of our visits there (she let us audit one of the movement classes in order to check the place out) Cassidy had a total meltdown when it was time to leave. Oksana quickly diffused the upset and had Cassidy ready to leave, smiling. I was impressed. Since attending, Cassidy has actually been making a lot of sentence-structure mistakes...because she is constructing increasingly complex and elaborate sentences. I know such language development is common for almost 3 year olds, but I have noticed real progress in the past month. The school also has 2 kid-size bathrooms, which have caused Cassidy get rid of pull-ups once and for all (yahoo!), since she is so jazzed to use bathrooms made just for her. The space is a bit small, but I think Oksana limits class size accordingly. It is also right across the street from the park, and they have outside playtime there when the weather allows. The school offers classes several different types of classes, from movement to Russian, and Oksana is very cool about allowing people to drop in on a class to check it out.

Comment:  My daughter attends ECDC Kaleidoscope located in Windsor Terrace across from Vanderbilt Playground. It's a licensed group family daycare that takes 3 and 4 year olds through a fun and impressive preschool curriculum. The teacher and teacher's aide are great with the children and my daughter loves going to "school" every morning. I believe they have space open now as they are offering open houses and spring registration. Feel free to inquire with them and this is their website, http://www.ecdckaleidoscope.com. They also offer extended hours and other lessons, like piano.

Comment:  I wanted to highly recommend this wonderful art-focused center for 6-7 years and younger. My youngest son who is 3 years old has been attending this center since September 2009. Through the years, my children have attended various art programs and this one by far is the best. I am incredibly impressed with the art projects that they do with my son. My son also loves the drama and musical theater programs. This center is top notch and very reasonable. It is located in Windsor Terrace at 1519 10th Avenue on the corner of 16th Street. The website for further information is ECDCKaleidoscope.com. Thanks so much, Alisa Stratton (Mom to Nathaniel 6yrs, Graham 5 yrs and Myles 3 yrs).May, 2010
